  • Brilliant piece of work, I always loved this song as a kid.

  • Lol my mom was singing this and i searched it for her xD

  • I'm so happy to have found this on here! I remember this from back in the day.. xD

  • Oh can't you seee...there's a bird on meee

  • lol..I'm 40 now...but even as a kid...My favorite part was when he said "They sit there talking to each other, not to me"...and they look like they're actually having a chat at that point..lol

  • OMG this was made in the 70's!?!? I say it and I wasn't born until 1986!

  • Just bought two budgies last week....

Almost peed myself LMAO...love this one

  • O my goodness... I love this tune! i would hum this on the monkey bars!!!

  • O my goodness... I love this tune! i would sing this on the monkey bars!!!

  • classic! this is my sesame st. i remember this like it was yesterday, and its been almost 40 years since i saw it! thank you so much for posting this! 8)

  • "they sit there talkin' to each other and not to me"

    aw... poor rhino

  • @Samoaqueen

maybe the whole point of his complaint, "Hey guys, I'm down here, I can hear you!"

  • He should be grateful the birds eat parasites when they're there and they also warn him when there's danger.

  • @moatguy

still, be nice if they said Hi

  • I wouldn't say that would be bad.

  • This song would be good for Lervene from The Hunchback of Notra Dam who hates having pegions on her.

  • This was one of my favorite clips when I was a kid. And I agree, the current Sesame Street is hokey...mainly because of Elmo. He drives me crazy.

  • @truemon

The first time I saw a "tickle-me-Elmo" in the local WalMart, I was alarmed. Scariest toy ever made. They had a floor model on display, and it freaked ME out (I'm over 40), never mind the little kid standing next to me who ran back to Mommy screaming! YIKES!

  • This was so funny. They aired this clip in the 80s a lot. In those days, you would see clips that spanned 2 decades. I wonder if current Sesame Street still includes the old clips from the 60s and 70s. The new stuff they make for kids is so hokey, I find myself rolling my eyes and gagging at the condescension. We were on the verge of the Age of Hokey when I was a kid so it really sucks now.

  • Now this was really old..........1969!

  • @stegatops

    The year I was born!

  • i heard this in a dream changed to "you gonna burn on me" weird

  • @LostHatProductions

I have also had weird dreams regarding "Sesame Street"! When I was in my early twenties, I had one that they were building into the story that the character of Grover and his cousin both had cancer and were near death!

  • Absolutely classic.

  • I will never be able to get this song out of my head.

  • @PugsMalone

Better this, than "It's a small, small world!"

  • This is still funny, but when I got older it bugged me. Why? Because given that the birds are eating parasites from the mammals, a mammal singing for a bird to get off it's back is absurd!

    Heh. Still, pretty awesome.

  • @barkon ....... Debbie Downer.

  • Between this and the Winnie the Pooh sexual abuse defense song I am starting to believe there truly is a song for every occation.

  • love this!!!

  • Every time I visit a zoo -- either at home or on the road -- this song always manages to pop into my head!

  • (applause) R.I.P. Joe! You were an AMAZING genius!!!!!

  • I nearly fell out of my chair laughing. I think this is my favorite Raposo song out of all of them.

  • Incredible. This had slipped my mind for years, but once the music started it all came rushing back, almost word or word. I love this.

  • Joe Raposo was magic.

  • I remembered this the second the music started. Thanks so much for uploading it!

  • come on bird get off my mack!

  • Actually it's "Come on bird get off of my back."

  • Hey, at least the birds eat the bugs on them

  • Yeah that's what I ment 3 years ago. They don't mind having birds on them if they keep them clean and healthy. There's a parasite on me should be the name of this song if it should be like animals being bothered.

  • oh i for got to put they in my comment

  • lol! i rember seeing this when i was a kid in the 80's when played it in reruns

  • Kids these days can experience the classics thanks to youtube!

  • Ditto, Sesame Street today has really gone down the drain. We don't need any new characters like that little pixie!

  • hahahahaha!!!!

Man,I remember watching and laughing at this when I was younger.*snifff*.I feel sorry for this generation.they never got to experience the real, great, classical, educational Seasame street.

  • i can totally relate

  • this song rocks!!! it makes me laugh every time i see it.

  • Tell me, for anyone that has seen the recent Sesame Street, there's this song, but VERY different. I can't help watching, but there's an animated one in which it shows a Holstein singing the song with birds landing on it until it goes into the water (don't know if it's a cow or bull.) Have you seen it?

In my opinion, SSt. remaking this would make Raposo quit if he was still alive and working for them. I can see that his classic vids are extremely hard to find on that show now.

  • Sesame Street REMADE this clip?????

    SACRILEGE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BLASPHEMY!!!

    HERESY!!!!

    ABOMINATION!!!!

Joe Raposo and Jim Henson would be heartbroken if they saw what a mindless mishmash Sesame Street, and childrens' "educational" shows as a whole have become.

  • I agree

  • It's not fair to call the modern Sesame Street "mindless"---every decision they make, they make for reasons based on heavy educational research. (NOT market research, LOL) That's they way they've always done things. Research, research, and more research.

It's just too bad that the research in recent years has led the modern show to be more generic and less aesthetically interesting than it always was.

    But that's the trend in edcational TV these days. Simple and straightforward. <={

  • @BonzoGal1980 Totally!!!

  • Yeah, the new version totally misses what made the original so funny. By literalizing the song---actually having a animated rhino sing these lyrics---it robs the whole thing of the absurdity that we're all laughing at.

There's nothing wrong with remaking something in and of itself, but what bugs me are pointless remakes like this that were unnecessary and don't say anything the original didn't say better. (That could describe a large percentage of movie remakes...)

  • lol hilarious and memorable

  • the music always made me want to do a funky dance when i was young.

  • Get off my ass stupid birds

  • My now 39-year-old son used to watch this on Sesame Street when he was about 4 years old, in the mid-70's. So it's at least that old!

  • best sesame street clip ever!

  • This made me laugh so hard when I was a kid. And hey it still works!

  • Best sesame street song

  • Man, this was quality tv. My mom and I used to sing this non-stop.

  • lmao! I was raised on this!

  • *pffts!* This is so funny! ... But in the end, the birds pick parasites off the animals, so it's really ok for them to be there. ^_^;

  • Yeah I know. So this song does not live up to real life. Still funny though.

  • @Xyllirium

It would be nice if the birds acknowledged their transport with a friendly, "Hello down there," at least in the Cartoon Universe, which is where I wish I lived.

  • I love this!!! I totally remember it and it was always one of my favorites. What year was it?

  • I remember it from the mid 80s...I think it may have aired in the 70s though.

  • flashback to my childhood!! love it!

  • This tune sounds like the style of Woody Guthrie's children's songs.

  • It likewise reminds me of Bob Dylan

  • LOL, I remember this one, too!

  • i haven't heard this ditty in YEARS - all came right back though - shooo - oh woes me -

  • LOL this is so funny!

I have to by those sesame street videos for when I have kids,... it's far more educational than the garbage they have on it today.

  • Start to chirping and quack quack

Come on bird get off of my back Hee hee heh hee ha heh That man was funny when He said that

  • I love the music in this clip!

  • I heard him say "I'm so damn sick of every feathered friend I see". I can't believe they said that on Sesame Street!

  • I can only guess what he thought of Big Bird.

  • he said "I'm so durn sick".. did not use a bad word.....

  • WOW! I remember that when I was a kid. Thank you for the flashback.

  • Funny song!

  • Come on bird get off my back

lol Hee hee heh hee ha heh

  • what video was this?

  • There is a bird called a go-away bird. It's call sounds like go way! and this call warns other animals of danger. The honey guide helps the honey badger sometimes the honey badger is known as the ratel. Honey guids them them to find honey buy useing a special call.

  • I learned about the "go away" bird from a documentary. I learned that the bushmen in africa were trying to hunt prey and the bird said "go away!" so the prey ran off (i wasn't sure if the prey was antelope, gazelle or what, i don't remember) but it was hilarious, especially when the hunter glared at the bird!

  • The white bird on the cape buffalo they show after the elephant at the beginning of this is also a cattle egret.

  • The white bird on the elephant at the beginning is an egret most likley a cattle egret. The rest look like all okpeckers. Oxpeckers and cattle egrets eat insects like ticks off of animals. There are 2 species of Oxpeckers, red billed and yellow billed.

  • Can't you see there's a bird on me. Oh woe is me. There's also a terd on me.

  • Bird, terd? GGGRRRRROOOOOAAAANNNNN!!!!

  • I vaguely recall Grover singing this song with a little Muppet bird perched on his head. Was that a product of my imagination, or a different song perhaps? Does anyone remember?

  • What a cute way to show symbiosis.

  • I remember this. The new one sucks!

  • It looks like those birds put some bird doo on some them too. Good song though!

  • The music is awesome!

  • Its Cute!

  • I LOVE this. It's great how the animals just standing there with that deadpan voice on the soundtrack.

Sadly, they just recently remade this song as a computer-animated skit with a cartoon rhino singing it----thereby completely missing what made the original version so funny.

  • Why do they have to do things like that? Stupid computer animated rhino.

  • One of the best songs on sesame street!

  • i agree!

  • This song and the rhythm of the singers voice reminds me of a silly Arlo Guthrie song.

  • LOL! Love this song!

  • Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Cool song.

  • I should sing this song when I have my pet cockatiel on my shoulder! Ha ha.

  • i use to trip of this song it was so funny

  • I do like this song but it seems more like someone complaining about having birds on them. In real life animals like the ones in the song do not mind having birds on them. The birds really eat parasites that suck the animals blood. It is really a clean up freindship.

  • You're right about that. But the line "they sit there talkin' to each other, not to me!" sounds like it's the point of the rhino's complaint. "Hey guys, I'm down here, I can hear you!"

  • Too right.

  • The classic SS... the Jim Henson era... we were lucky. It was Sesame Street's heydey indeed.

  • OMG!! this is fantastic! soon as it began playing i was singing right along..and its been decades since ive seen it..just goes to show ya how much one can actually remember things like this from thier childhood..knew all the words like it was yesterday! the 70's were a great time to be a child

  • I agree about remembering it like it was yesterday. Just goes to show how much we absorb as children to remember them flawlessly years later. Love the classics.

  • I call it the last generation of kids back in '73 (1970's)

  • that was suh-weet!

  • I remember takin my brothers hand an trying to dance with him an doa ll these crazy stuff... fun stuff

  • love this

  • Wow! this is great. I wish I could have that many birds on me! *wink*..*wink* :)

  • hah this is great

  • ah classic! todays SS and kids shows don't have the pizzaz as the classic shows of yesteryear.

  • This stuff rots your brain wtf you talkin about lol

  • Dude, these videos are great. Total Classics. I wish Noggin would bring this back, I had a dozen tapes of calssic sesame and electric company and now they are gone. Some stomer lifted them.

  • Oh yes! Another classic from Joe Raposo! I remember this one on Sesame Street all the time! nice.
