  • Cheers Bob... Always knew you were a Gent! I will take you up on that offer one day... Stay safe up there.

  • Ok...! Point taken. My knowledge of formation aerobatics is virtually nil - actually, about as negligible as the courteous element of your reply... I merely mentioned it as I did not wish you to collide with someone coming the other way. I admire your aviation articles and did not wish to read that you had met with an unfortunate accident whilst carrying out a display. As my well-intentioned comment has fallen on stony ground I will refrain from further observations.

    Thank you for your reply.

I was going on to say 'thank you' for your kind comments about my writing, but I discovered that there were no more message characters avaiable. I wanted to explain further and express my appreciation, but had to stop there.

Your reply has given me the chance to reply with gratitude, and apologise for being curt.

Do come and say 'hello' to us after one of our shows, and we can talk more.

    Yours, Bob

  • Bob... Who was maintaining all round vision/looking ahead occasionally while you were aerobatting about...? If you look at the video, unless it was the other dude then... no one! In aviation, there is no guarantee that some blind oaf isn't bimbling along in the other direction at the same altitude - maybe no radio/low fuel/ distracted. No disrespect intended BTW, I really like your articles and admire your aviation background and experience, just don't want anything bad to happen to you.

If you stopped and thought for a moment before bursting into print, you would realise that:

    a) of course Matt is the one looking out all the time

    b) it's an airshow, so the airspace is notammed closed for the duration

    and

    c) how am I supposed to fly close formation safely without having total visual concentration on my leader? One quick glance away means instant death at our separation.

Read the forthcoming article in Pilot and you will understand better.

    Yours, Bob
