Well The SHO is a fast ford that for sure its a shame the mustang GTs dont have the same genes. im a GM man by heart i prefer my 87 Grand National. which love eating those pony cars. even the cobra fell short at my 21 22 year old 100,000 mile car. but ford had good setup with the SHO they shoulda kept it around. great vid tho

lol yeah its not exactly stock bigger intercooler bigger turbos and so on with the know how and fundage you can get it in low 12s with just boltons. Those turbo 3.8s were 13 second cars when they came to production. They were the fastest production car other than the vette GM put out there. Watch some vids on here theres one on here that gave a viper a run for its money

a faulty one? LMAO. You do know its not a toaster. There isnt one part in a part. You cant have a 'faulty' car. The chances of thousands of parts being bad to be faulty is astronomically high. Chances are, it was not maintained.

I've got an SVT contour. Many claim its an unreliable car. I've got 240,000 miles on it right now (384,000 KM). I'm on the orignal engine, transmission and other major components. Rest is maintenance like shocks, brakes, clutch...wear and tear items.

Unless most people were just being whiny and it was nothing but small problems. I know for me its been small issues and at 240,000 miles, thats not bad. I'm still on the original fuel pump, motor, tranny, injectors..etc. Water pump went twice, clutch changed twice (consumables), brakes here and there...sensors, wheel bearings on the front (twice each side) and thats pretty much it.

Someone recently rear ended it though so the bumper is mangled :( Cant find a bumper either.

and he welded the cams, so idont need to worry about engine failure.

I loved shifting though the gears when I owned a 1992 SHO. That is a race engine in a heavy familly car. I could just imagine it competing with some of todays engines.

first of all, 2008-1990 does not equal 15yrs old... ;)

secondly, the V8 SHO would have had its behind handed to hit BADLY without spraying or forced induction. not as many power mods available for the V8 as there are for the V6

one thing i do know is that the new mustangs do 13.3 stock in a 1/4 mile not 13.8 they are fucking fast so that guy in the sho has a bunch of shit in that car.

And some have even done better, it's all on the driver. That was my best time on it's second (and last) time out at a strip. I also have to give props to my buddy that was driving my SHO, he IS a better driver than I am. That probably gained him a portion of a second, and cost me a portion of a second helping to close the gap between to the two cars.

I don't even know about most. I've seen several 5-speed cars float in the low 14's/low 100-101 range in good weather. Definitely not solid mid-13 second cars like the magazines had us believing in the first place.

I know that SHO has alot done to it...I just bought my brothers 94 SHO and that thing puts away GT's I have yet to race it, or even learn it really, but it has about 25-30 grand into it...those things fucking move when you put some money into them...He's gotten mine into the low 13 range before...He hit 13.3 once but took it easy from there.

Yea, 13.8 is also not the best 1/4 for a new 2005+ GT. I know a person who has gone 13.41 on a totally stock 2005 GT.

Not bad though, that SHO has some balls for what it is, but that was a large mod list on the SHO and the GT was totally stock.

Modded Cars vs. Stock cars is a bad comparison because even a 1990 Civic can run 9's with enough cash put into it.

That's probably true. There are "easier" cars in the world to maintain though. I broke a tie rod in my 92' MTX and it was an ABSOLUTE BITCH to replace! I had to replace my rack and pinion on my 280zx and it was ten times easier than the SHO tie rod.

Not on the top end. The GenIII cars are much more slippery, safer and far stiffer unitbody than the previous gens.  They handle better, ride better, and have better brakes. Also other than Cam issue have a lot less headaches than the V6 cars.

I had an 89 and a 95, and they were awesome. The only weak point is the tranny, it's junk. The tranny's are just slightly upgraded Escort GT trannys.

They are Mazda transmissions I think, which probably were used on the Escort GT. Mash the throttle and get some wheelspin going in one of these SHO's and you can easilly blow a diff pin.

I had the dif. pin rip right through the wall of the tranny on my '89, and hads to pay more for the tranny than i did for the car, lol. I did many, many burnouts on the replacement tranny, and it was fine, but the old one was pretty beat on when i got the car.
