They don't have that much years left before they die from natural causes, in other words they are too old. 2.) I do honestly feel pity for them, however my view is as follows, paying the ransom is counter-productive and will only ENCOURAGE further kidnappings in the future. Furthermore, it was via their own stupidity, that they choose to sail in such dangerous waters- imagine if British soldiers die as a result of some-sort of rescue mission? What a waste.
