Honestly, Steliana was one of the only 2 gymnasts to not fall in the top group. She hit every event so it's not her fault that she hit and was a bit overscored. That's the judges fault, not her's. She hit each routine which means she had about .8 over everyone so she could afford some sloppiness, which means she had room for mistakes. Leave her alone.

If the other gymnasts stayed more persistent Shawn Johnson would have a run for her money she is lucky. But after 2008 she quit and decided hey I am winning and i dont give a crap about gymnastics anymore. HEYY SHAWN JOHNSON!

@78thefirstlady She is the first American gymnast that I have enjoyed watching...I didn't like Nastia until the Olympics and think Jiang Yuyan should have taken bronze on the floor. Shannon Miller had grace but she was so prissy it was irritating. Shawn has something likeable and though she is a power gymnast, she has something interesting and she has more artistry then Carly Patterson, though not much. Overall though I am rooting for the Russian's though.

okay so i donno if this is a dumb question.. but i have always wondered if there are awards for top 10 or top 8 in these world level competitions..

like ribbons? flowers? or something?? or is it just top 3 get a medal and everyone else is SOL?? lol...

donno if that is dumb or not.. but at like level 7 meets 8th place gets a ribbon you know... just wondering.

I'm mad as hell, Shawn Johnson has pretty much quit the sport, what a waste of talent! Her mom said on an interview that since Shawn won the world all around title, and she already have got to the olympics, and she's still healthy, that there was no need for her to continue, or even try for 2012...! errrr! After years of practicing this is how you quit the sport? I mean, imagine if someone has said such thing to Mohini Bhardwaj, she was in her late 20's and she went to Athens! Take that Shawn!

no she was. if you knew anything about gymnastics and about the scoring system, you would know that we are not out to get nistor, we just know better. she was shamelessly overscored and did not deserve her all-around title. justice was served in beijing...

I do not agree. Steliana Nistor received a generous score, but she did deserve the silver medal, simply because she did not have a fall. Barbosa, Ferrari, Liukin - all had a fall, thought they look more consistent during the whole competition.

Right now Brazil is destroying Barbosa. She had kidney stones and needed to drink 1.5L water per day to help stop them. she wasn't allowed to drink any water during training. She also competed with an injury that may require surgery (almost all of Brazil's gymnasts competed in the Olympics injured). She was also medicated so much that it caused her to be nauseous and dazed. Her dad won't let her rejoin the national team until there are serious leadership changes.

Things just keep getting better (sarcasm). They found that Jade has necrosis in a bone in her wrist, which is irreversible, and that they don't know how to help her or to stop the pain yet. And now her club (Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, a multisport club) is going to be closing its gymnastics program!

Wow, that's too bad! I was so excited to see a country like Brazil move up in the world rankings, not your typical gymnastics country. But at such a cost to their gymnasts! That's just so sad for Jade, I hope she gets through all this stuff!!!

What happen to Barbosa and Ferrari? They are no where at the level they were in 2007 compared to the 2008 olympics. Barbosa 3rd here and 8th at the olympics. Ferrari 3rd also in 2007 and 11th at the olympics. Ferrari also qualfied in 21th at the olympics in to the all-around.

Ferrari had a devastating Olympics. She improved from the qualifying (16th place), but her floor routine was not good and she got in 11th place in the final. Barbosa also wasn't so great at the Olympics. She messed up on fx and got in 10th place.

I can't believe how much BETTER the standard was in Beijing. Barbosa and Ferrari would have been 9th with their scores here!

And then you add Pavlova and Semenova who were BOTH amazing in the Beijing AA....

I remember being depressed about the state of gymnastics after this comp, but boy, I've changed my mind after an amazing AA in Beijing!

Just wish Tweddle won the bronze on the Bars...that was unbelievable!

Who beat an American? I don't think there's any bias here. I'm a pretty new and average gymnastics fan and I agree with the comments about Steliana, she shouldn't have gotten 2nd. She was inconsistent 3/4 of the competition till the last rotation. Still think she's a great gymnast though, just didn't show it here. Personally I would have prefered Jade for the silver, who was consistent 3/4 of the competition. Both Vanessa and Nastia fell so shouldn't have medaled. Just my opinion.

Because her SVs are sky high, but also because she's Romanian. And when was the last time a Romanian gymnast was underscored? I think I've never seen an elite gymnast, let alone a World medalist, have such a horrible form on all 4 events. IMHO, both Nistor and Jana Bieger epitomise what gymnastics should NOT be like!
