Love TT and i love noise/punk/doom/ and old skool rave , But two voices in music you know straight away are Mark Hollis & Jello Biafra, Classics. Wish it was 1983 again.
Im 17 years old and I really love this music. It sucks that the band doesn't excists anymore.. The music these days, expect rock and metal, is just crap..
Truly immense talent. Sad loss the the REAL music world that its so false he could no longer stay involved. Come back Mark PLEASE!!!!!! Geordie girl ....
don't think they'ld like looking at this...the miming, and probably conned by the business into trying to be new romantic or whatever...but the song stands up...the passion was there from the start, and it never went away....
Knew it from the start -- this band diff and better 99.5% of acts then. the music is great in studio but all their tracks done live can be rocked up high and hard.
no one really appreciated them at the time, they were brill, nothing will ever happen again like them, or the undertones, similar groups, both brilliant.
Talk Talk was my fav group in the 80s. I played their first and second albums to death. I loved the synthpop sound and visceral emotions in Mark's singing. It's too bad they weren't actually performing in this clip but it's still cool to see them pretending! :)
i love this song a lot and Mark Hollis haunting voice and paul webb backing voices on this song. you guys are one of my favourite 80,s groups and I think that you all should be in the hall frame of music I love you Mark,Paul and Lee forever xxx
Mark Hollis, the best singer and songwriter of my life. No one other puts more feelings in his superb songs than this guy, brilliant as ever, timeless.
Brilliant track, I bought this album when it first came out and have evreything they ever did. To those who say they improved as they went on, I say rubbish. As much as I love all their later stuff, I rate this as their best album.
video aside, what a great band. Mark Hollis is an awesome vocalist and just kept getting better through the years. Lots of good memories.......80's rocked!!!!
Mark Hollis sure has a lot of enthusiasm and expression in his face when he sings, this is their best track by far, and the drummer plays those Simmons hex drums the way they were ment to be played.
Oh dear the fanboys strike again. I wish we had some more objective minded people on here. You are correct it was a big improvement. I've given you a postitive review so only minus 1 now!
In the early they looked lik New Romantics - that was cool. In the Mid-80's especially the singer looked like a lately 60s Hippie - but the music was also cool.
@PPLUIS80S I agree an excellent voice , but you have to agree that Ian McCullogh from Bunnymen and the late Ian Curtis have unique voices that stand out.
If you're looking for choreographed dance moves and slick production, look no further than most of today's performers. If you want someone who can actually sing & compose, and a band that can actually play, look no further than Mark & Talk Talk. Cheers.
@aviatrix911 You do have to admit, though: Talk Talk didn't shirk on the 'production'. I know it's cool to say you like Talk Talk's later stuff (Colour of Spring, etc.) but I love this earlier stuff just as much, and it has a LOT of production.
@swelstead BIG difference between "production" vs. "over-produced". Talk Talk was never over-produced. And unlike today's "performers", the band was comprised of artists. I share your sentiments for their earlier material....all of it beautiful. There were no throw-away tracks in their entire catalogue, IMO. Cheers.
Their debut album is still my favourite,Rich, textured and soulful. If only the Music purists would accept that TT made fantastic anthemic, ethereal, moody pop and didnt just keep wanking on about Spirit of eden (which i love btw) and Laughing stock.
Their music is unique, and I don't think they got the credit they deserved - tunes like this one have aged amazingly well, and that's something you definitely can't say about most 80's music. Brilliant!
But some people only like the Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock era! That isn't juvenile, just a matter of taste since all Talk Talk's albums sound very different from each other.
this song decleared very loudly the second wave of brit's pop-invasion to the world... what days those were...brilliant. and I consider my self lucky to grow up during that period.
What a group, I recall them in the 80's and was so glad to find them out here.
So under rated then but a breeze of fresh air in todays music world. Top notch Mark I just wish you would come out of retirement, your fans are still here.
Superb song but I think Mark's performance goes some way to explaining why Talk Talk were never a massive band..The camera just didn't like his face or style.. It's such a shame!
awesome song and band love them sheer brilliance a true classic absolutley brilliant i was 11 remind me of primary school brill memories wish i could turn the clock back but glad i grew up with this music amazing xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It's very interesting to note that this album (and band) would've ranked among the lower ranks of synth-pop bands in 82 (Simple Minds having released arguably the greatest synth album ever that same year), just not being significant or unique in any way whatsoever.
But they'd go on to become arguably the most influential band in recent music history, if not of all time... that's definitely something worth recognising.
first off, great quality on the vid! i'd expect much worse since it's from '82
second - this and 'talk talk' were such a waste of talent. it shaped up around 'it's a shame' but this song just shows how excellent a singer mark is and how nothing in the song can live up to his standard.
third - yes the drummer is a maniac. i love it!
and he does kind of look like damon, doesn't he? or the other way around, who gives a damn.
I was born in 1982 and I've been loving them since my childhood!!!! This band really evolved in their Music, each of their records is both wonderful and very different.

What is this magic that Mark Hollis possessed in his voice? Mystical. It transcends the songs he sings, but interweaves and becomes one with them.
