Answered your own question there. Composer is the Writer, Conductor is the Director. It's like asking Stephanie Meyer to direct Twilight(Not that it would have sucked less). Each has their own profession, most conductors out there haven't written much of anything, whereas most composures don't conduct very well.

I brought over ff8 to play at a kid of whom I look after . He said "I'm probably gonna laugh at the abyssmal graphic and pixels" in a smart ass manner. I showed him the opening movie and he almost shat his pants! YEYA!!!! I don't really like one winged angel. It's hard to get into the tune at the start because it's just a bunch of orchestrated mush. To be honest the rock remix in ff7 AC was better but it doesn't Nobuo's style. =(

My only problem is that the female voices are lost behind the orchestra. The sequence at 1:10 through 1:17 is a perfect example where both choral lines should be competing with eachother louder and louder until - as in the original cinematic - the sword hits thr ground and they're all silenced.

FF8's big failing was its limitations on the PSX's half-cocked video card. To be honest, even a PS2 capable remake would be pretty thoroughly impressive. Of course, PS3 would be the more likely choice now, since it's got more power, even though not everyone's got one yet. Still too bloody expensive.
