  • Pal is better :p hehe sometime our Games are faster :p SMB and Dragons Lair

  • why does my PAL NES sound like the NTSC version?

  • I gonna vote for NTSC

PAL version is also good, but less choppy than the NTSC version.

  • Compare handheld GBA to NTSC SNES and GBA versions of 16 bit games also have downgrade;s like brighter washed out color contrast and annoying high pitched sound which also makes them inferior and like PAL Virtual Console the 3DS Virtual Console it was anounced getting locked to only to the Inferior GBA conversions of 16 bit era games athough "some" NTSC NES 8 bit games will be released on 3DS Eshop and free to those who bought 3DS before price drop.

  • Never The Same Colour

  • I have a pal nes and a pal game and it runs exactly the same as the pal version here

  • i think you got it the other way around.. Pal is slower.. not faster. My pal system runs mario even slower then your ntsc example, and my ntsc console runs it at normal speed

  • @DGMRuadeil From what I understand, very early PAL copies of this game were simply the NTSC ROM being run at 50hz in a PAL console. The PAL version shown in this video is a later copy that was made its own ROM for europe, and was attempted to be sped up (although they obviously didn't do it right since the music is too fast).

  • @ingx32 ah thanks for clearing that up. Yea i might have have that early version. Though my version includes duck hunt too. I dont know if that matters anything as to what version it is. The game itself plays sluggish too so yea its definitely ntsc ran on pal

  • The PAL SMB 1, 2, and 3 Games in NTSC are like they are on steroids because Mario goes too fast. They optimized Mario's speed when walking or running but when jumping, growing or shrinking he goes slow. The enemies also go slower but each track plays at a different speed such as the ending theme which goes slower and the sound fx are also slow..

  • The title screen demo is different in the PAL Version.

  • So... in europe... sonic 1(not 2 and 3) were really slow(50hz) but the first mario was fast... 0.o

  • Pals fucking quick

  • On the pal version you can't do the infinite 1-up trick

  • @foxonfire100 Yeah, I've seen tons of people on other video's commenting that they've been trying to do it for years, and I'm sure some of them have been trying to do it on a 50HZ PAL console

  • Haha, I never knew the SMB PAL was sped up to NTSC standards. I looked at the game speed first but didn't notice any differences And failed to hear the different music speed until I read the comments.

  • nothing much different other than a slighlty slower soundtrack in the NTSC version. other than that this video is pointless

  • @lewis95stephen it's not pointless, the slower music IS the point lol

  • @ingx32 got a pal download link for this game?

  • Europe has fast music with super mario bros!

America has fast music with Sonic The Hedgehog!

  • @MegaGamemaster007 Oh the irony.

  • I grew up with the PAL version

  • LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT. You can use this program in Linux?

  • its the same video 2 times

but the secound is speed up

  • The speed of the music in the PAL version is more common

  • i think you swapped PAL and NTSC

    PAL = 50 HZ

    NTSC = 60 HZ

i am not sure about that though

  • @KirbyY15 yeah pal smb is weird, they actually sped it up to ntsc speed but accidentally sped the music up twice

  • This ISN'T the PAL version!

The PAL version (which I have downloaded off the PAL Wii Virtual Console so I know) is faster like in the video, but the screen is less brighter and the pitch is slightly different

  • @PixelBen this is played off an emulator

  • @ingx32 Well then it's not the real thing then is it? And if it's not the real thing, then you shouldn't be comparing it to the NTSC version and posting the results on YouTube

  • @PixelBen it is the real thing, both the pal and ntsc games are run off an emulator in this video

and i have seen videos of pal smb on a real nes and it was exactly like the pal version in this video. the vc version must be different somehow

  • @ingx32 odd. It may be due to the fact that there are two types of PAL NES. Region A (UK (me), Italy, Australia, New Zealand) and Region B (all the rest). You couldn't play a Region A game on a Region B NES and vice versa. I may have played a Region A Super Mario Bros. which has duller colours and higher pitch, while this is Region B.

If that's not the case then it may be the fact I'm playing a 50hz Super Mario Bros. on a 60hz TV (which Europe has now)

  • @PixelBen you're a fucking retard faggot

  • PAL IS FUCKED UP I HAVE A NES EMULATOR (PLAYS PAL AND NTSC/J OR NTSC UC ) MARIO IS NTSC AND I PREFER NTSC THAN PAL (NOTE: IM IN A PAL REGION U.K)

  • @matthewrobinsonsz I agree because im in uk i apsalutly hate how pal is always fucked up eg sonic the hedgehog 1 pal version was slower and super mario bros being faster who gave them this idea to fuck up their games

  • The original SMB for the PAL regions was unmodified and played at a stupidly slow speed. All further revisions (including the one in this video) were modified in order to try and make it appear to play correctly.

Unfortunately this technique wasn't used well and this resulted in the updated PAL version (played first in this video) having music that plays too fast and gameplay that feels quite different - the speed difference I would describe as being slippery when you play it compared to NTSC

  • @terrorcide ah ok, i didn't know the unmodified pal version was ever released in europe. thanks for the info :)

  • @terrorcide wait, did the unmodified pal version also have slower music than the ntsc version?

  • i remember 5 years a go i was playing this game on my ps1 hehe

  • @keynan101 impossible

  • i have ntsc mario brothers for my actual nes and its ok

  • I didn't see any difference, to be honest.

Well at least it seems that unlike Castlevania, Super Mario Bros. has been speed-adjusted to comfort for the PAL/NTSC differences of 50/60 Hz.

They should have done that to all games, not doing it to most of them was just lazy.

  • i like ntsc better cuz thats what im used to, the pal version just looks weird to me.

  • How does the PAL version look weird? It looks the same, just faster.

  • I live in New Zealand and have this game in PAL. I always thought it was weird seeing it on TV, or watching vids on Youtube cause the music was always too slow. Now I know why.

  • @neoprint I know how you felt :P

  • pal version FTW

  • Where are the black borders

  • i don't know, emulators don't seem to emulate black borders very well.

  • I think I like the PAL version at 50hz much more ^^

  • the pal version shown in this video is running on 50hz. I have a video of what it looks like at 60hz (I think that the pal vc version has the fast music fixed).

  • Hm...I don´t know. Maybe I´ll have to try the VC version with my Wii.

It really doesn´t sound like PAL...very strange.

  • That seems more like PAL at 60Hz

  • nah, pal on 60hz is even faster, with higher pitched music.

  • I agree with Zack. Generally, the music plays faster if the PAL version of a game is forced to run at 60Hz. Like this one for instance.

  • no, this is NOT forced to run on 60hz. I guess I have to make a video of what it looks like running on 60hz otherwise you won't listen to a word I'm saying.
