@Lisnageeragh James Galway is an excellent classical flute player, but trad is another language. I think it's also because he's playing the whistle here. It would have been better with the flute probably.
@Lisnageeragh You're right, when trad players try to play classical music it doesn't sound right neither, unless the have studied it. I used to play Handel recorder sonatas on the whistle though, maybe one day I'll make a video, just for the craic.
@Darkvibration Handel on the whistle ...there's a thought worth a go! Both Molloy and Galway could probably have taught each other quite a bit for their mutual advantage!
Wow! The contrast between Molloy and Galway is stark as can be. This is a great and revealing posting.
Molloy is thoroughly in control of the Irish idiom and understands all the timings and groupings of the tune. Galway is just tooting in the obvious staccato fashion. No contest.
These are two of the best in their fields, but this is a mistake . I don't know who is to blame. It just doesn't sound musical. An embarassment to both I am sure,
Doesn't sound musical how? Can you elaborate? I can understand if it's not to your taste (maybe you're more strictly a fan of Galway's classical performances?) but I don't see any lack of musicality here. (And I'm assuming you meant "genres" or "field" rather than "fields", since they're both in the same field.) What do you think they have to be embarrassed about?
Go home Galway!!!!!

I thought this was pretty good, but its not an Irish tune I don;t think, its a hornpipe from Northumberland.

transcript of video:
galway: is this what an Irish tune sounds like?
molloy: no... you play it more like this.
galway: like this?
molloy: no no, like this.
galway: oops I guess the tune just ended.

It's not 'Malloy', but 'Molloy'. Typos on keywords generate serious flaws...
