As a fan of YES and having worn out my copy of Olias I bought this album. To be honest I was shocked at first and dissapointed. This was not what I expected at all. Soon grew to love it though. Used to listen to it on my old cassette walkman while marking out the rugby pitches at my dads sports club. Made those cold autumn mornings fly by.
Dick, the saxofonist, never liked playing rock, but he liked Jon so much as a person that he really took work with Jons music seriously, even if it wasnt really his preferred style. Jon has a rep for being a really nice guy
I remember seeing Flight of the Moorglade (from Olias of Sunhillow) on the OGWT when it came out. They had a great vintage film with it of a mechanical bird or something. There used to be a really bad copy of it on YouTube. This is pretty rubbish though - a long way from Topographic Oceans.
Wonder if the original tape of this still exists. Jon should 'hire a man' to track down this and other such forgotten nuggets... put them out on a dvd.
I bet hearing these songs and seeing the style of his clothes as well really freaked a few JA fans when this originally aired. I know these 2 songs in particular were a shock to me in 1981 when I got the album!
OMIGOSH, I saw this vid like a year ago and didn't notice the name of it and never found it again. now I see it was at OGWT, so great. I enjoyed these 2 tunes when I first heard them, so glad I could find this again. THANK YOU for uploading this sweet gem. cute outfit there, Jon :D that bit at the end is so cute.
Good gracious, when was this? In America so much of this kind of music just wasn't "out there". MTV did well for what it was, but I am glad to find the stuff you never see here. Amazing, thanks!
Yeah, Dick, my step dad. I think he was on every J&V recording. It wasn't his favorite music, but he liked Jon a lot, who actually babysat my siblings during rehearsal.
man,i would give one of my testicles for that voice

Excellent. Some entrepreneur needs to compile all the OGWT video and make a DVD series.

Excellent! Thanks for posting. I know who the sax player is. Who else is playing here? Does anyone know the other musicians?

Oh, Ok. Sorry. They mention it at the top.

this is the beginning of the kinds of trite, strident, cliche melodies that Jon would incessantly sing for the next 25 years and counting..
a long way from Olias...
it is funny to see jon playing with some "cats"..
ah, the big budgets they threw away in the 80's.
good to be Jon!
and did he say "as long as we can get inside the backseat of your car"?????
awaken, gentle mass TOUCH!

Jon Anderson will gain. Ahead he was of the times. Alot of musicians were. I recognize the (sax?) player as one on his later (Van Vangelis) vids.
Sorry I don't have it all right.

Love that bit at the very end where Jon pretends to fall backwards. Classic.
