  • I played this great record at Joe'sShack, on 2nd street at Lakewood NJ, so many times, they had to replace the 45 three times back in the late 50's. I still play this great song on my computer and will have it played at my wake. Played drums for 40 years with "Little Steve and the Furies" sadly, we never did this great song. Eggs

  • Philadelphia lawyer here.

  • no matter what time period everyone loves the fuckin oldies i know thugs that listen to these, i listen to metal like rammestine but love oldies to lol. my friend went through my iPod he laughed it switches form songs like these to hardcore metal

  • I heard this on the commercial and almost freaked. I used to listen to the like everyday in 8th grade. I'm a senior about to graduate (: Great song! I love oldies!

  • The NFL proved that doowop could still be popular even in today's age!

  • thanks to the NFL for reviving a song that was a classic when I was a kid!

  • This has been used for years in a promo for Uncle Henry's Basement, a doo wop show (since 1989) on WMWM Salem MA! ("No, no, no, it's only Saturday," Jack Smith's voice then says...)

  • Where can I find a copy of the original version?

  • And I thought there were some good artists over at NFL.

  • great backing voices!

  • Must be an old doo-wopper on the NFL Network staff. Nice to see this late-50s classic resurrected; however it's silly to say that the "new" version is better than the original.

  • Another nfl.com-er checking in!

  • THE LOVE OF DOO WOP MUSIC BROUGHT ME HERE....YUP.....SLAMZ A BEER

  • nfl networks version sound better tho... i love the sound regardless

  • So charming. I thought it was originally Frankie Lymon. Heard it on the Soprano's and fell in love :)

  • @NinaLuxful I knew I heard it recently. What episode?

  • Been looking for this song since they played it on The Sopranos. I knew it wasn't Frankie Lymon but I swore it was his brother Louis. The NFL was the final straw. I had to find out who sang this.

  • Pretty sure the NFL version is either a cover or a heavily edited/reproduction.

  • over a half-century old -- can you believe it??

  • Like if NFL.com brought you here!

  • Thank you NFL for bringing back this classic tune!!!

  • @pgermani2008 i like nfl networks version better tho lol

  • NFL BROUGHT ME HERE!!!!

  • ...NOT Ellsworth...meant to say The Dovels

  • Ellsworth say this was inspiration of Bristol Stomp. Btw "That's How I Feel" by Students even better

  • Props to the NFL...that's what got me here. But I'm always down for doo-wop. Never heard of this one though.

  • Props to the NFL using this oldie but goodie in their new commercial.

  • @thecommish1976 you too huh

  • This song still rocks after all of this time.Rock on

  • I Soprano / The Sopranos.

  • @overbrookXXX -I went to the "Brook", too.Saw them live in 1960 at a hop doing " No.No.No.", their

    first song.

  • Great song to do the Bop or Bristol stomp to. We do a dance out of Hoboken NJ called the JR. It is just like the bop but a little more reserved. LOve to dance to this kind of Doo Wop music

  • @overbrookXXX Your're right I can't help but think of the music behind the Bristol Stomp & the actual song itself. The Dovells sung it back in 62/63 & I enjoyed it as I did most dance craze songs. For awhile there the Highschool gym was hopping to the sounds of the Pepperment Twist, The Locomotion & The Limbo Rock but we didn't have much to do with the Students & it's wasn't my fault that this great sounding song wasn't played here locally(Vancouver Cda) as in Rockabilly too. Thx/lol

  • A defiinite dashboard thumper. Whenever I heard this on 1540 WPGR back around 1985, I used to pound to the beat of this tune on the dashboard of my parents car. Surprised I didn't put any cracks in it.

  • this sounds like frankie lymon

  • @ladycharmny I always thought this actually WAS Frankie Lymon! LOL I had this 45 record as a kid, I was raised on oldies... I'm very grateful to my fiolks 4 that :)

  • @fuegodude70 I was too!!

  • This is one of the greatest songs ever made.

  • i have this on 45 ..... the flip side is im so young..does anybody know if its worth any money?

  • A true Oldies Classic. Larue Imes where are you?

  • Nice song and good audio quality

  • I wonder why half (If not more) Of the people on this page are slamming other music people? And those who slam others who like, or do not like doo wop?.........Hoo fuckin rah for all of us REAL DOO WOP FANS who waited (Come hell or high water) for DON K REED on sunday night.......Not from fuckville...From the real New York....On a device known as the radio.

Oh yeah, Mafia movies are the best. Actors, story n th music make it great to go to th theater.

ps : I think U need new buddies.

  • @patrickb5197 I do too sometimes.

  • God bless the mafia! Before I say this, I grew up around doo wop some, but if it wasnt for movies and tv shows about the mob, I wouldnt have been introduced to my favorite doo wop tunes which wouldnt have led me to other awesome tunes yet to be heard again en masse. I love doo wop I dont care how gay my buddies think it is, hah

  • @regalbeagleable im in the same boat as you lol

  • ID LIKE TO KNOW WHO THE 3 PEOPLE ARE THAT DONT LIKE THIS SONG.....PROBABLY BIEBER FANS

  • theres doo wop and then theres new york doo wop. this is new york doo wop.

  • I was first turned on to this music when I heard Handy Man, by Jimmy Jones, in 1960, but when I heard this tune in 1973, and heard all that was going on in the background vocals, I knew I was on to something that was just the tip of the ice berg. I was correct.

  • Take me Back,,,,,way back. Love this. Great Great Great.

  • A great record n th other side is jus as great, tip ur hat to Gus for this one.

  • From Philly. Wednesday was dancing on TV show, Friday night was St Hilary's davce with Frank X Feller, Sunday was Jerry Blavatt. All gone with fine memories.

  • If you were from the New York, New Jersey, Philly area you were doing the Bristol Stomp to this big hit by the Students. Ron--Highway Stars Magazine

  • THE LATE GREAT LEROY KING ON LEAD VOCALS...ONLY 14 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME OF THIS RECORDING...1958

  • @ZAPDUNGAA

Awesome voice! One of the greats!

  • This was my favorite song when I was a kid in the early 60's. I love the guitar intro and ending. Excellent!

  • I don't know where the recording was waxed. Richie Johnson said Chicago when Iasked him acouple of years ago. I;ll email him and ask again???

  • great song! 5 stars!

  • This group only had a few releases Scattered on different labels after chess I believe this is there 2nd Chess release from 58. There Big hit was there first 'I'm so young From 57 haunting tune was on the movie Cry baby. Not frankie lymon singing this one totally different group leads name is Leroy that's all I know!!!!

  • Cute....now I know where the Bristol Stomp got it's hook. Great tune..thanks ioxxd90

  • Thanks, thebigfist !

Sounds like you really know your oldies.

    Thanks again.

    R.

  • My cousin would play this on the his old victrola to psych-up the troops before gang dust-ups in 1959! GREAT SONG!

  • I believe the lead is Frankie Lymon .

  • @Berneice7Richard The lead singer of the Students was Leroy King.He sounded like Frankie and Louie Lyman both, but that was the "kiddie lead " sound of the time started by Frankie Lyman and the Teenagers. Then followed by Schoolboys, Students, Louie Lyman`s Teenchords, Desires etc

  • I found it!!!! was searching so long for it, after i have heard on the sopranos. this song is great. thank you very much for the upload!

  • Wow, what a great song sounds just as good today as back in the day

  • I've been in Rock n Roll since 1957...This is the best song that still sits in my mind..EJ

  • oh, great-great song, but sadly poor quality

  • @petoczistvan Even though this is a reissue but it sounds ok to me.....

  • @ioxxd90 It's 55 years old, sounds great..

  • @petoczistvan not bad i thought the quality was decent

  • @petoczistvan this is probably the best quality you'lll hear...the master isn't that great.

  • @petoczistvan Well, the price is right: $00.00!

  • I like that rhythm guitar up front

  • @nyimtman

    I do 2.

  • @nyimtman

I'm guessing that was Ralph Byrd on guitar? Please correct me if I'm wtong.

  • @12014343lk Rumor has it that the students recorded this song at the Brill Building at 1619 broadway, N.Y.C. I'm not sure who the rhythm guitarist was on the recording, but at that time a popular studio musician guitarist by ther name of Charlie Macy, was used at the Brill building, at many recording sessions.

  • @12014343lk

The reply from the Students was as follows. EDOTW and I'm so Young was recorded on the Note label in Indianapolis, Ind. So, I'm I'm even more convinced that Ralph Byrd did lead guitar.

  • @nyimtman Defenitly good rhythm guitar.:)

  • @nyimtman That riff was later ripped off by the Dovells for "Bristol Stomp." Check it out. As was pointed out in the NY Times, years ago, you can't copyright a riff. Otherwise, Bo Diddley woul have died as rich as Bill Gates.

  • @hwgray I totally agree with u, check out Poor Little Fool by Ricky Nelson, James Burton is playing ryhthm guitar up front, by far, he is one of the best guitar players to ever touch a fretboard.

  • i'm only 32 y/o but i remember hearing this saturday mornings on my dad's reel-to-reel and when he wanted on the record player--we were barely in middle school! he was definitely a doo-wop fan and i've been hooked since then

  • @jenjen7800

I can remember hearing this on an oldies station back in 1990. I was taping a lot of stuff and he played this. I wore the tape out. I found the reissue of the song...It works for me.

  • @ioxxd90 Do you remember the Stations number? I heard it on WKAT in Miami in 1990, 1360AM.WKAT

  • @jenjen7800 WTF?! I was almost as old as you are now when this side was brand-new! Time flies, even when you aren't having any fun.

  • 57 chevy convertible and this song

  • Rockaway Beach , NY 116th ST . THIS was music!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hard to believe this song never did make the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was re-released in1961 and did better the 2nd time around, possibly because it was ideal for the "Bristol Stomp" dance steps.

  • I can't believe it either. Great song......

  • first heard this on the sopranos i had to get this

  • Love it!!

  • And Sunday, and Monday...

  • Absolutely brilliant! Is this on one of vthe Chess label discs?

  • @bobphillifent This was actually a copy from Collectables Reissue. But it was on the Checker Label in 1958....

  • And on the 8th day God created ROCK AND ROLL.Thank you Big Guy..

  • I first heard this song on an episode the HBO drama "The Sopranos".

  • I have never watched that program, but so many comments here says the same thing. Thanks for the comment.

  • doo wop is the shiznit!!!

  • SOPRANOS;)

  • So far I love all the songs by The Students. So sad such a great band could not remain together, would be nice to hear some more from them :-)

Thanks a lot for uploading this one!

  • You're welcome.

  • Doo-wop is King Screw Rapmusic

  • This tune was later borrowed for "the Bristol Stomp".

  • Oh gosh, this is the one from the end titles of The Soprano's "Mrs. and Mr. Sacramoni's request" episode! Great, i've searched this song for so long...!

  • I love this song, and the flip side "I'm So Young". Brings back my childhood memories.

  • The lead singer on this was Leroy king. At the time was 13 or 14 years old.

  • all from philly. Bristol stomp, bongo stomp, ete. all had this rythym-which is

    a 3 chord change progression-the heart

of our music. Here in my heart-timetones,

    another example.

  • Leroy King and the Students were from Cincinati,Ohio.Even more, they were all students of Sammuel Ach jr. High School at the time of their recordings. They were pared with a band from Indy for the Recordings.Ralph Byrd of the Students [guitar] was allowed to play his riffs on the recordings even thought the indy band had a young fellow named Wes Montgomery.

  • @ripleyryder

How'd you know that?? Splain? Excellent homework! Was Ach a junior high? Cause I knew of them @ HHS.

  • concealedcarrier: Immediately thought of Frankie Lymon. FL had such beautiful range and voice control. Another tragic loss for 1950's music lovers. Drugs are BAD!

  • One of my favorits like '58 was yesterday

  • I love this song (I also heard it for the first time on The Sopranos).

  • That's cool. Thanks for the sub too.

  • me too, great song

  • you can get on the dance floor with this song and really get down. Nothing like the old cuts to get your motor running . Love it!

  • Anyone else think of Frankie Lymon when they first heard this?

  • The sopranos is right, thats why i went looking for this. this is a great song, especially after tony beats the crap out of perry anunziata

  • this song was literally a song you could and still play everyday of the week, a great rocking bristol stomping cruiser... thanks to the geator for breaking it in the philly area, in 1961- 1962 we danced all night at the chez vous ballroom in Upper darby pa. yea the memories are strong

  • I was there every Friday circa 64 & 65. Love this song and the great memories!

  • This was the REAL Bristol Stomp. We danced to this at every dance in Bristol and everywhere else in the Philly area.

  • You're so right about the REAL Bristol Stomp....

  • Are you from the Philly area?

  • NO, but reading the history of the song, and read alot about old school music. I remember about the Bristol Stomp.

  • the sopranos!!!!!!!!!!

  • mr. and mrs. sacrimoni request...

  • Comment removed

  • lol its an episode of the sopranos, this song plays during the end credits

  • i know....
