  • sounds like my 10 year old sister distroying a song

  • She was right to turn this song down...It just doesn't fit her style...

  • This sounds like someone singing kareoke. The song definitely went to the right people.

  • Horrible!!!

  • Oh my God, this is horrible.....almost as if she does not want to sing it and ruins it on purpose...It's too painful to hear......

  • I like this better than the Boy meets Girl Version, even if its a demo!

  • belinda carlisle beautiful singer...... but this song not her specialty...something wrong with this...but i wont give it a thumbs down...shes too cute for dat

  • Was she drunk?! I mean..this is sooo far out of tune in places...

  • bad singing - o - rama

  • Can you up the reverb a little? ;)

  • Ugh... thank god she didn't get this song. She didn't do it justice at all....

  • What a beauty Beinda Is

  • so eighties.... simply innocent

  • Whether she performed this demo well or not, this is music history GOLD! Who knew this song was offered to Belinda?? I sure didn't. This is just great! :) Yeah, it doesn't sound all that good in this iteration, but who knows how huge it could have been had someone like Richard Page or Narada Michael Walden produced the final version? It would have been a HUGE smash for Belinda! And y'all know it.

  • Ok, don't hate me here. First of all, I really like Belinda. This is my first time hearing her version of this song. I've loved this song like crazy since 1988, so MAYBE I'm being subjective here (although I doubt it). This is just not working. It's like the whole point of the song is missing. It's like ordering a burger and getting a bun with lettuce, tomato, and no meat. As Simon Cowell would say, it's a no....

  • It sounds like it was the first time she sang this song. She didn't make it her own yet. Kinda of going through the motions of learning the tune. Too bad she didn't perfect it and released it. I love this song and her.

  • What a Beautiful woman!!

  • Even without the bridge, this sounds almost as good as BMG's version of the song. I'm amazed BC never actually recorded this for CD...or did she? It'd be worth it just to see what kind of video the Go-Go's would have shot for the same tune!

  • This may not be her best recording but I think she has beautiful moments in this song with her voice.

  • She probably didn't put much effort in... because she didn't like or want to record the song.

Producers hear this. Agree. Job done.

  • @eastcoastdude99.9 You are likely as off as this ",,,just a demo" no one asked you to reply to me - so you calm the fuck down. She sounds like shit!!!!! AS ALWAYS!!!!!

  • PLAIN PITIFUL I never thought this child could sing in the first damn place - sounds like high school talent night I bet she is pissed that this was found - she ruined a great song.

  • @ramona2400, Good God calm the fuck down. It's just a demo. I bet you're the life of the party wherever you go.

  • @ramona2400

HOW CAN SHE RUIN A GREAT SONG WHEN SHE WAS THE FIRST TO SING IT!!! You need to be smarter in your insults.

  • Definitely not her best singing... But not every singer can sing every song.

  • Even being a demo without autotune, this blows the Boy meets Girl version out of the water.

  • @MrJwatson1968 there was no autotune in 1988!

  • @TheBigBlueBox That was when singers had to be able to sing. Rebecca Black proves when your family has $50,000 to burn, you can go to Ark Music Factory, sing into a computer microphone and it will come out OK because Auto-Tune would touch it up. Susan Boyle and Jackie Evancho can sing, the others, not so much. There are some leaked untouched practice tapes of some newer pop artists on Youtube, and some of them stink without Auto-Tune.

  • It sounds like she swallowed a washcloth. This is horrendous. She owes George and Shannon an apology for assault upon their song.

  • i feel like i am watching american idol.... and simon is ready to cut off the singer.

  • lol oops what is this omg belinda goes to show, practise makes perfect.

  • Reminds me of something from Saved by the Bell.

  • WHAT ARE YOU PPL TALKING ABOUT? HER VOICE IS NOT AUTOTUNED. this is her REAL NATURAL voice so at least she can sing somewhat DESCENT without being autotuned by machinery! She has talent.

  • A most fatal blow! TRULY RUINED A CLASSIC SONG BE GONE CURSED CREATURE!

  • this is a rare track indeed...too bad it was found...lol ...not her best

  • Keep in mind this is just a demo that the mixers and masters haven't played with yet.

That being said, Boy Meets Girl did it the best it could be done - they wrote it.

  • She sounds like she's singing this song through her nose! Lol! She doesnt put any sparkle into this song as she sounds terrible!

  • terrible rendition of this....

  • I ACTUALLY LOVE IT !

  • she's killing my song

  • from 0:8 to 0:30 it actually sounds like the begining of "i wanna dance with somebody".....

  • This is awful.

  • Aparently this was meant to be recorded by Whitney Houston ,but she passed on it.

  • What a delightful little find! These days they auto tune the demos so it's kinda nice hearing a good old traditional slightly off key in parts grass roots demo - 80's style!

  • George Merrill of Boy Meets Girl wrote the song. I'm happy and grateful that he decided to record it. I love Belinda and the Go Go's but am thankful that she took a pass on this one. Thanks for posting it. :-)

  • @fritzkr9 she didnt pass on it, whitney did----belinda did record it at her lables insistance, but decided not to include it on her album.....i never though much of belinda as a vocalist, after hearing this, it just confirms it....

  • Get the audio from this clip at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • A very rough demo indeed, but this is what demo's are for.. trying things out etc.

  • not as good as the original- sorry poeple who like this:)

  • This is a fun version, but it was definitely meant to be performed by the ones who created it.

  • Belinda's vocals get cut a lot of slack due to her looks.

  • @chocolatepoundcake i agree

  • I'm sorry but those making fun of her voice; she's by far better then any 'teen' singing now.

  • @JackLivesTogether

Um, no she's not. There are plenty teenagers that have amazing vocals. Doesn't mean that Belinda doesn't, just that you saying that hers is far better is...prejudiced. :) it's good that you like her so much though

  • @thisismyteddy She's better then some teens singing now. Mostly Miley and Taylor. They use heavy audio-tune on their voices.

  • @JackLivesTogether not really, shes just as bad as some of, if not all of todays teen singers, the difference here is, the lack of studio trickery used...ie auto tune

  • @discovery781 I'm so tired of auto tune. It's used WAY too much.

  • Ouch, my ears

  • My understanding is that she had no vocal training. Pat Benatar should have recorded this song

  • @metsdudenj It was originally written for Whitney Houston but she turned it down saying it was unsuitable; this was just a demo; it wasn't meant to be released, it was leaked. Later Boy Meets Girl recorded it; it can be heard in the film Three Men And A Lady.

  • a little off key?

  • @metsdudenj a lot off key

  • anything sung by belinda can sound wonderful :)

  • @cebucemagenaitap except this.

  • @metsdudenj How dare you!

  • this is interesting, to me it goes to show that even a skilled singer (Belinda can sure sing in tune) can do mistakes on a song which is new to them

  • There's some pitchy vocals on this song, but well done to Belinda for attempting it anyway!

  • Wasn't this song originally for Whitney Houston but when she rejected it the writers, they recorded it themselves and had a great hit.

So glad they released it instead of either women (though they are both great singers generally).

This is a tough song to sing..as Belinda demonstrates here lol bless her. No wonder she rejected it!

  • This needs like 500% more sax.

  • I dont believe this is belinda but the real belinda did have great boobs

  • And Boy Meets Girls version of this song is ten times better than this Belinda version.

(And yes. I know that George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam wrote this awesome song and that they are Boy Meets Girl)

  • Wow. I didn't knew it was a record tape of Belinda singing this awesome song.

Georg Merrill sing thissong perfect and he sing 4 - 5 times better than Belinda did here!

Belinda did a very bad performens here! Her voice on this demo is BAD!

Waiting For A Star To Fall is by the way my favorite song!

  • @DJBouncey maybe they realised that at least part of this song was meant for a guy to sing...

  • I don't like this arrangement as well the one BMG eventually went with.

  • this goes back to the past...wow!!!!

  • for a little background on these demos, they were essentially drum machine/keyboard demos done with a quick one take vocal as reference only for Belinda to listen to and learn lyrics etc. they were not proper studio demos nor meant to be heard by the public. she mentioned while on her book tour that if Universal and Virgin can work together on her back catelog that she'd like to release a full album of high quality outtakes one day. as she always recorded 5 to 10 songs more than needed per album

  • George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam, better known as Boy Meets Girl, have been songwriting for other artists since the late 70's, they wrote several songs for Belinda in 1986 as she and her producers searched for songs for her second solo album. George and Shannon submitted this song, as well as a track called "Bring Down The Moon". Belinda demoed roughly 30 songs for the album and ultimately recorded 15 songs during the album sessions. neither of these made the cut. BMG had hits with both later

  • This gives me hope that, being a total lay singer, my own singing isn't thaaaat bad after all. It's interesting how weak Belinda's vocals sound without fancy sound effects.

  • @chocolatepoundcake - I think it is just a bad song for her. She is better at ballads and less quick wording...no vocal tricks in those days as much as today

  • Awful!

  • The more i hear it i love it. It would not have fit on The Heaven On Earth Album but it would have been great on the Belinda album.

  • Thanks for posting the video :) But yeah, this is def NOT Belinda's best, but in fairness it IS a demo and also the song itself in horrid, so the fact that she is butchering it shows she has taste!:)

  • THE MORE I HEAR I LOVE IT.

  • Belinda Carlisle RAPED this song. Terrible.

  • LOVE BELINDA, yeah vocals are rough (alomost amusing) but it was a demo and who cares, I love these rare finds!!

  • @JDhappy81 Me too! She obviously wasn't feeling the song but still cute to hear her non-polished take on the song.

  • She sounds like a drunk doing karaoke, thank God she didn't keep the song.

  • belinda carlisle was so beautiful

  • and at almost 52 she isn't?

  • Comment removed

  • a LITTLE off-key? *lol* I think Boy Meets Girl heard this demo, and were so frightened that they immediately decided to form their own singing group rather than let their signature song fall into the hands of another artist :p I love Belinda to death, but this vocal is just painful *lol*

  • it's just a demo...I heard Huey's demo version of Heart of Rock and Roll and that sucked too. If they had continued with the belinda version, they probably would have put the sax, yada yada yada

  • I think it coudl have worked

  • Do you have an MP3 of this, please?

  • awesome pics. never seen most of them before! thanks
