  • Hi, thank you for the video is helpfull. I am a guitar player, and want to make my own backing tracks

I Got a Yamaha PSR303, I notice there are Midi ports on the back.

I wonder... is there any computer program that lets me 'compose' my drums and then export them in midi format to my keyboard so that I can use the owesome sounds it makes?

    Thanks

    I'm wondering

  • Nah, just listen to a real drummer and try to play it on keyboard.

  • Thanks so this video.

  • Oh cool, I got a pcr 300 too.

  • Oh cool, I got the the edirol prc 300 too.

  • Lol...pointless video. Thanks dude I know what a hi hat sounds like.

    Dislike

  • could anyone explain the steps AFTER buyin a keyboard, say casio(are they good for this kinda thing?), to make drums with your keyboard?

  • the keyboard midi port it's in ?

  • Do you, or does anyone here know how to choke crash, ride, splash, or china cymbals using MIDI, either with the keyboard or after the fact using control data? Just as the open hi hat "closes" when a closed hat or pedal hat key is pressed, there are times I need to stop a cymbal as if I had grabbed it on my real drums.

  • should use pad to play or record midi for drums

  • thank you, good tutorial. wow, it's funny how the drums are in the same places on my keyboard! I guess tehy must have standards.

  • cool this helped me :) the only thing i strugle with it that when playing the synth i do a motion with one hand, my other hand does the same, its kind of hard for me to do two different motions with each hand at the same time, i need to do more excercises with my wrists and fingers so i can do different beats with each hand i guess.. im not sure

  • is the drums a sound kit u buy or does it come with it

  • this guy is using the prodikeys. its a MIDI controller / computer keyboard. you have to get your own program/

  • @StevenMovieMaker7 It was actually the Edirol (now Cakewalk) PCR-300 - nice little controller, but you can use any MIDI USB controller to do it. Yes, you do have to get your own program for it run with.

  • you have to buy it separately =(

  • @bfootball31 Lol. The vast majority of keyboards have an integrated drum sound, as well as hundreds of other sythesized sounds.

  • pretty fuckin cool

  • Hello! 1st of all, congratulations for yr vid. I recently got a 25 key midi controler from M-Audio (Oxygen V8) and i start drumming using "Sonar" as DW and "Addictive Drums" as plugin however it's very dificult to drum without editions once octaves are very far to use ton-tons and i was also wondering if there's any way to change that and also use the double kick (C1) like snare left and right which would be easiar for heavy metal songs for example. Thanks for your attention!!!!

  • @outbreak50 Yeah - it works best when you have a software synth that uses the "general MIDI" layout for drums - like NI Battery, or the ones that come with many of the larger sample packs like NI Kontakt, IK Sampletank and Cakewalk Dimension Pro. That being said, you can also upload a MIDI GM drum map for Addictive (do a google search there's a link in the cakewalk forum)

  • @outbreak50 what daw are you using?

  • Simple & Useful Video. Thanks for it!

  • good....

  • @DepecheEmulator Thanks!

  • Thank You very much for sharing!!!

    u r awesome!!

  • @arrayeniqma thanks for taking the time to comment - glad you found it helpful!

  • This is great! exactly what I needed. I am going to get my first few hours practice out of this short video alone. Thank you Very much!

  • Glad you found it helpful!

  • I found this really helpful. ta!

  • how do u make it sound like a drum

  • @mashedash thanks for the comment!

  • a bit poor, this doesnt teach nothing special, all is obvious.. and only for that version of keyboard. And the man that play doesnt show how to play, he just do some poor examples.

  • @autoselectanyname - Like we said, it's just a basic tutorial. It will work for all midi drums (software or keyboard based) that are based on the General MIDI pattern, which is most of them.

  • lol i like the "big finish"

  • @Jethar2 ha...thanks.

  • That's really cool. I've tried to do this kind of stuff for quite a bit now but have never been successful, so thanks for the tips.

  • @LittleBritianTV Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

  • You should do this for addictive drums!

  • this is amazing. thank you. this put many things into context for me. Ive been playing for almost 10 years and always looked at the drum kit with envy. now that im older and have my Korg Triton, I really wanted to be able to take keyboard drumming more seriously. and this helped a lot. i didnt realized that the drums were mapped to the same keys on most keybords. thanks again, this is a great start. im really hoping you have a couple more. i havent looked yet. here goes nothin.

  • lol

  • Why did i get a lot of negatives? I was talking about myself

  • Not as realistic as I thought but still cool.

  • I can never make the finishes sound realistic - Not even you could, no offense, its incredibly tricky - obviously we need more hands - but even on the computer, i cant arrange the fills realistically. Any suggetsions.

  • Ha..no offense taken. If you are talking about the finishing fills, etc., I think they are really tricky to do "live." I typically will do something like you see above and then go in and edit the fills manually - adding "the third and fourth hand" which on a real kit are your feet. I think I will show this in another video at a later time. Thanks for watching!

  • sorry hit spam button. didn't do damage did it?

  • We haven't been kicked off youtube or anything so I think all is good!

  • you just saved me from a huge headache, thanks so much!

  • Glad you enjoyed it! Happy Keyboard drumming!

  • Hey do you know how to increase the responce time when i press the keys on axiom? I'm using FL studio 8.

  • It's all about your sound card or interface and the setting on the driver. Go into the driver settings and try setting the buffer to a lower number. You might have to try a few and see how low you can go without it crackling. Good luck!

  • what a lame skill to have. Why not drum for real?

  • It's more practical. Say you wanted to start a "bedroom band", having a machine that can make all the music for you is a lot easier. Instead having to spend all that money on a real set, that is loud and intrusive, and requires good recording equipment.

With an all-in-one machine you can make good music without having to buy a lot of equipment.

  • well said, saphothere...

It's not much of a performance instrument, but it's actually really handy for laying down drum tracks. I'm a singer songwriter and I use it all the time with my own stuff and people I record and produce.

  • Excellent! I've been using composition software like Jammer (occasionally band in a box) to do my drum tracks but would much prefer to do it myself. I bought one of those electronic drum things with pads that sits on your lap but I just can't really do a decent job. Your video has inspired me to get back to using a keyboard. THANKS SO MUCH! Would love to see a more indepth video taking it to the next level. I use cubase. 5*'s.

  • Glad you enjoyed, Elliott! Maybe we'll do another one on recording and editing a MIDI drum track with your encouragement.

  • Hey thanks so much for replying! Your video started me on a hunt for more of the same and I found a bunch so now I am motivated to set up the midi keyboard sitting in my closet and get back to it. I hope you won't mind if I have a couple questions, I might contact you. Thanks so much for the kick in the butt.
