Toronto city council needs to watch this video. We are actually moving backwards with these issues. Reducing bike lanes and sidewalks for more car space.
Am sharing this video to ALL FILIPINOS. If only our own legislators, our beloved government officials - from the barangay captains, councilors, mayors, congressmen, senators and our own President take a firm stand on road traffic safety initiatives, many lives would have not been wasted on our roads and streets, many lives could be saved from road traffic crashes. I hope our public officials be inspired by the example of NYC Mayor Bloomberg who is personally pursuing and promoting road safety.
It's easier when you don't have any hills though! Here in Sydney, we need to contend with Geography in the form of hills and multiple bits of harbour too...
@colacheeks@colacheeks It's on The High Line park overlooking 10th Ave at 17th Street. Looks interesting in the video, however it's quite boring in real life since 10th Ave is low traffic street and I don't really get the point of it all; but you should check it out for yourself of course.
The park is "designed by landscape architects James Corner Field Operations, with architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro."
What a wonderfully inspiring video. I wish we in Vienna could take the kinds of bold actions NYC has taken in the last few years - it would help our economy and livabilty.
Toronto is on the verge of electing an anti-urban, anti-green, anti-intellectual, old-school suburban right-wing mayor in the vein of a "tea partyer." I wish more in Toronto would realize that voting "on the right" doesn't have to mean being anti-urban, anti-green and anti-intellectual.
On my recent visit, seeing Times Square almost car-free and certainly more people-friendly than its ever been, I felt a certain touch of jealousy. C'mon Portland!
One another note, the outlying buroughs were nowhere as nice as Manattan, bikewise... I got run over by a salmoning bike in Brooklyn!
I like how the NYC video begins with happy music, and images of blue skies and happy people enjoying happy urban spaces, compared with the LA video, which features somber music and images of chocked auto traffic underneath gray, hazy skies.
Probably the best video ever made on pedestrianization of urban space. Makes me want to live in New York - and I don't like big cities! When half of Manhattan becomes carfree then a new day will dawn.

Am I the only one who finds Sadik-Khan really, really sexy? Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of what she's done, but she's sexy too.
