I think the reason Rush said he wants Obama to fail is because he's embarrassed that he actually may have helped Obama win the Presidency. During the Democratic primaries, he told his listeners to register Democrat and vote for Obama, thinking that it would be easier for the Republicans to beat him than Hillary. That plan totally backfired. It would be hard to count how many people actually went along with that plan because they would be unlikely to admit it now that it failed.
