Coronal holes are very common and they do not have any proven correlation (outside of what appears here to be pure coincidence) with earthquake activity. So now I need to ask, can you show us what the coronal holes looked like at the N. latitude in that region (about 36 I think), or comment on it. Well, this was uploaded on 8/22, east coast earthquake was on 8/23, and it was cool and windy before the earthquake (he mentioned something about winds picking up and erratic temperatures). It was a 5.9 that was enough to scare the hell out of everybody in my house. I thought it was just a wind gust, lol. @byBeano The depth of the earthquake is an important thing to factor in when calculating damage potential. The shallower the earthquake, the higher the damage potential of buildings.

Also, many buildings in Virginia are historical buildings that were built when there werent as strict building codes as today. The east coast doesn't see frequent earthquakes, so the building codes in the east are less strict than in the west where there are frequent tremors.

Aug-23-2011--A 5.9 magnitude quake center in Virginia rocks the East Coast, with tremors felt as far south as North Carolina, as far north as Buffalo and Boston, and as far west as Detroit. The Washington Post quotes a a USGS official as saying,

"We would certainly expect aftershocks."

The USGS suggests that the quake is the largest to originate in Virginia since May 31, 1897.

The USGS says the quake was centered at a depth of 4.6 miles.
