It must have been filmed with the camera on it's side; the CO2 ladder ONLY works if it's upright, watch the direction the bubbles are going, that's going to be the top of the tank.
listen people! air stones are not for planted tanks!! they remove co2 from the water, if you want more oxygen for your fish, add more plants and fertilize them. planted takes operate differently than just fish only tanks. take out the air stone add more co2 plants light and ferts your tank will be beatifull
correct, no air pump. if your worried about O2 levels in your tank find a way to add CO2 to your tank, like with a CO2 bottle. add more plants if you only have one or two, and fertilizer (macro and micro nutrients) you will have a great fresh water planted tank. An air pump will drive the CO2 out of the water, it will add some O2 but if you want to have great looking plants and healthy fish inject CO2, and lots of light and fertilize the plants.
Wow lots of comments, I haven't signed-in in ages!
Ok, so let's go through a few:
- Ladder was bought from Maidenhead Aquatics, but most online stores will have them, should cost less then £10
-I have CO2 being pumped in via a ladder, a glass bell and a glass/ceramic diffuser. This is dosed by an electric PH meter and an actuator and a timer.
-The air-pump comes on 30 minutes before the CO2 stops. At night the plants don't need CO2 so the air-pump purges that.
i just made a homemade co2, its not hard but, i just have 1 question for you! at the bigining of you set up was the bubble actually goin through the ladder? mine doesnt seem to do that! its better using a ladder cuz the air travels longer which is good!
sorry but the fact that you have what looks like an air pump in the background makes this more likely that your ladder is just collecting air bubbles. Anyways even if you are dosing Co2 then your driving it all of with those bloody air pumps.
i just bought this system and its good because the longer the bubbles stay under water the more co2 gets into the water. Plus when the bubbles hit the sides it gets smaller and smaller, thus diffusing into the water. i also am getting a glass diffuser for a different co2 system in the tank. 55g
Max bubble rate... no clue! As for the undisolved CO2, yes if you pump too much into it! I've since supplemented this with electrics and proper ceramic diffusers, so this is more for looks than anything now!

Rihonx 2000 is way better, and its always best to have your parts separated, plastic is for losers,
Glass - Check Valve > Bubble counter > Diffuser
-Drop Checker
If there was a DIY Co2 bottle i would get it too.

Ladder sucks ass.
riptor3086 3 years ago
its one of the most effective methods of CO2 injection genius. U have obviously not tried it.
fatbrotha71 2 years ago
Where do you get it? I would expect they are a lot of money. Right?
quaqa88 3 years ago
Not quite. You can purchase a whole system with this bubble ladder for approximately 30.00 plus tax.
It's called the Hagen CO2 natural plant system.
Good luck

What is the max bubble rate with this thing? Also, does it expell a lot of undissolved CO2?
