This song kicks ass. My first intro to this tune was in the 1979 movie Over The Edge. This was used in the scene where Matt Dillon and his buddy get into a high speed chase with the cop Doberman who sadly kills Matt Dillon's character
people talkin but they just dont know- whats in my heart and why i love you so- i love you baby like a mine full of gold- c'mon sugar let the good times roll!- So many people live in make beleive- they keep a lot of dirt up there sleeve- but my love baby, isnt the kind that folds- cmon baby let the good times roll! hey! let the good times roll oh,let them baby... let daddy fill yo soul (insane guitar solos).
This is H at his best. more in control and structured in the studio. Of course there are exceptions like his live Villanova Station(?correct title?), where H plays both fast, experimental and a soft passage at Woodstock. H displays his talents from playing as a back up guitaritst with the likes of Little Richard to his inimitable virtuosity in this piece. A.A.T.W.TOWER probably is another piece where the great H displays his diversity, versatility and genius too.
For the three albums he put out, right from the get go just quality, quality, quality up and down the tracks. He didn't pull any punches or short change. How many bands take two, three, or four albums before they get to quality. Imagine what he could have done if he stayed alive. Amazing.
This actually is spoiled by being digitalised (no offence intended...better than nothing), but on the original vinyl, sooo much better and 'together'. :)
This actually is spoiled by being digitalised (no offence intended...better than nothing), but on the original vynyl, sooo much better and 'together'. :)
@clap67 Idiot... any producer using a "stack" in a recording studio is unexperienced and shouldn't be behind the control board. 90% of all recordings from the 60's... the guitar amp used was a 20 watt or lower. usually a fender Princeton, champ or deluxe. Judging from the tone on this recording I'm going to say a marshall 1/12' combo was used... please don't spread disinformation. It helps create more crappy players.
@bugsycline Oh really?Search for "Jimi Hendrix Studio 1968" on Google and see who's an idiot now!
By the way :YES Jimi did use at least a 4 X 12 Marshall with a plexi head in studio,if not a FULL STACK!.Sometimes he used a Fender Amp like in the "South Saturn Delta" track along with a Gibson Les Paul Jr.
Oh,and Marshall 1X12 combo was certainly not around in 1968.
@clap67 excuse me clap67 The Marshall 1/12 comment was ment to be a "Marshall 2/12" and not "Marshall 1/12" Marshall produced thier first 2/12 in 1965...
Ps... Kramer is an idiot... He was so high on cocaine at the time he could probably barely put words together let alone a recording session... I dare you to show up with a marshall stack to a recording session @ any major recording studio just watch out... you're going to get made fun of by the engeneer and the producer.
@bugsycline hi, sorry, I don't want to add to the argument at all, but for information wise, why would an engineer and producer find it funny to bring a certain type of amp to a studio? I mean, what if you get a certain sound out of those amps that you really can't get out of many others? I heard that Cream also recorded with their stacks, I'm sure they were just half stacks, but I bet they were still loud as hell.
It isnt just the best guitar solo, it one of the best songs ever! And the solo is RELENTLESS! He nails the pent minor and major, and then drops into the coolest jazziest double stops and chords, and then rips back into the pent to finish! All without a seconds hesitation! How does he do it!
@FretsOnFire95 Jimi Hendrix walked on stage with Eric Clapton(the year and concert escape me) and played so well with them that Eric Clapton walked off the stage in embarrassment.
@vaibanez17 I dont rate Clapton that highly. I can play as well as him, without much effort. Page is a little more difficult, lots of technique, but Hendirx! You have to have it in your SOUL to play like that, and I dont know if I was born that way! :)
That is sick! Wow - no wonder people keep talking about him. Notes come out of thin air. It makes these "100 note per second" players today sound boring. Fade out with Wah pedal gives me chills This has soul and rhythm.
you can tell alot about a person by what music they listen too, Hendrix is my idol, i envy him. iv knoticed something about every hendrix fan that iv met, their all nice kindhearted people. thats so great. long live Jimi Hendrix
i m trying to cover this and its taking a long time. a very long time in fact. truly the most insane piece of music ever thanks to both king and hendrix.
I bought Electric Ladyland as an impulse buy (I loved Hendrix long before I bought it, however), man, I'm glad I did. It's in the three best albums ever in my opinion. Completely un-messed with art.
@erbosifernandorock Maybe? There's no maybe's about it, DEFINITELY, SRV has said in multiple interviews before his death that Jimi was more than an influence, that he copied Jimi in more ways than he felt like admitting....that being said he's still a great guitarist...it's like Lynyryd Skynyrd saying you wouldn't have heard from them without the Allman Brothers....whatever, thanks for the tunes.
@HolliValsMusic pretty F-ing much! even people who don't listen to him....likely listen to people who did listen to him....the (random number) degrees of separation to Hendrix are staggering in as many directions as one might want to take it....Jimmy Page is another one it's hard not to be influenced by on some level, dude was/is mindblowingly prolific....my greater point is along the theme of the saying imitation is the sincerest form of flattery....though it's a fine line to plagiarism too...
To me Hendrix was most able to become one with the guitar,No one since has been able to surpass his abilities,This is my personal opinion so take it for what it's worth!

very true. it's all opinion and different styles. maybe in 50 years there'll be another guitarist that the masses will tend to think is the best and most influential. It might even be Andy. After all he's just getting started.
