Desi was the FIRST to buy back the show (re runs) the feeling at the time was "who would want to watch these shows again and again. Desi and Lucy bought the rights to "I Love Lucy" and formed "desilu"
All I knew of Ricky/Desi before was his comedy as "Lucy's husband." Rarely did they showcase his talent, and I certainly didn't see this episode. Great stuff!
@STEPcoach Desi was an AMAZING performer and his contributions to the show backstage were amazing as well...he never really got the recognition he deserved for everything he did, until after he died...
@indigothecat yes, he was a philanderer...but what does that have anything to do with his talent? and yes, obviously he and Lucy divorced...pretty much everyone knows that...
@moviechick9620 I don't mean to diminish how talented he was, but some people like to paint a picture of Lucy and Desi as a happy couple, when in reality, they were a happy couple mostly in their show, not their personal life, and a good portion of that was due to Desi's drinking habits and yes, his philandering ways.

Lucy greets them while Ricky is out, and not one of the visitors appears to know English. Some funny awkward pauses ensue until Ricky shows up, and the Spanish flows. Ricky has to translate the Spanish for Lucy. But at this later night club rehearsal, Lita Baron's character is suddenly fluent in English. True?
@prchristman actually...at first there are only 2 visitors, which are the ones that dont speak spanish...that's where all the ackwardness and translations comes from...and they are all waiting to see if Lita Baron's character can make it to the club, and she knows how to speak English....the reason she is dancing with Ricky is that she is waiting for her partner, but he isnt there yet so she might have to perform with Ricky instead....
@moviechick9620 I think I last saw the whole episode on Channel 5 in New York around 1970. I did pretty well for 41 years ago! Anyway, thanks for clearing that up.
