  • Why is this video blocked?

  • There is no one 'meaning of life' but what you want you life to stand for.

  • i had no idea

  • Brilliant!

  • I don't own a TV and have never watched an episode of House. I really enjoyed this. The path of truth and reason can sometime be painful, even to the prepared. Hugh Laurie explores this masterfully.

    Thanks for putting this together

  • Life is very difficult, but in it's existence creates reason, logic, and free will to do and understand as one may want. Life is the greatest being that God could have created, whether my faith allows me to fail miserably or to overcome the hardships and misfortune of life. It is always better to understand and accept faith than to comprehend the void emptiness of what life could be. As long as i have good friends to enjoy the ride with, i think it'll all be okay in the end.

  • House > God

  • @MelleB90 dung > god

  • Religion is real. Unicorns exist and everyone loves fairy tales!

  • @DeathbySunburn Oh religion is very much real. Just not what it teaches.

  • @Technosauce Yeah, you know what I meant though, right?

  • @DeathbySunburn Yeah I just hat to comment thought :P

  • so the meaning of life is to believe or not? i don't get it

  • We are all missing what this person has given to YouTube. Fantastic job on your video!!! House M.D. is one of the most intellectual, challenging, and educationally interesting show that I have seen. Hugh Laurie is an exceptional actor and he gets into my mind and shows me what life is about!

  • Great clip, everyone has set backs in life challenging one's faith. Faith the way i know it is Believing in something that is unseen...putting on your shoes in the morning and having faith that there is something or somewhere other then this provides me with comfort..AND EVERYONE GETTING ALONG. Faith is what keep me going in every part of my life...House makes some good points...Believe what you want...

  • Meaning of life is what we make it. And religion is just another attempt to answer the questions we don't know and rationalize our fears and our actions. House i think is just a portrait of a person that takes the answers that are here present and incorporates them into his life philosophy and that which still doesn't have an answer shouldn't be answered as soon as possible by any means just so we fill the gaps of our lack of knowledge but think on it objectively and give it time.

  • mean vid !

  • Science over Religion for me, but people are entitled to their own Faith.

  • Being an atheist does not exclude the possibility of being an agnostic too.

  • Civility in the Youtube comments is fucking impossible.

  • Life needs no meaning we need meaning because we cant accept ignorance as our natural state. So many people tried to answer that question and they all failed. Why is that ? Because there is no answer. Even the question does not exist.

Yet I cant stop looking for meaning. Thats how I got here.

One thing is for sure life is paradoxical.

  • Life needs no meaning we need meaning because we cant accept ignorance as our natural state. So many people tried to answer that question and they all failed. Why is that ? Because there is no answer. Even the question does not exist.

  • life needs no meaning its us who need meaning for everything

  • The world is crazy, the only thing that matters in the end is what we believe. Science can explain so much but I've seen so many times that it doesn't matter people believe what they want. I think that is why religion is so comforting, we have something to believe in so we don't just feel nothing going through life. We have a point. Yeah this is jumbled and chaotic. (What I'm saying) But its so hard to understand.

  • we can't have a 'meaning' to life. if we have a meaning that mean we are slave to that 'meaning' and live to just achieve that 'meaning' and 'objective'.

life is the experience and personal perspective of one person and it's ever changing and that's the beauty of it.

  • Opening the eyes to religion is closing the eyes logic and reason.

  • @justinxengland and your logic is flawed

  • Comment removed

  • Someone rewatched all of this just to clip parts out??

  • God dwells within you as, you all is one. Just feel you pulse

  • @BandrewD actually like all agnostics he is an atheist. A theist is someone that believes there is a god and Atheists are everyone else, unless you answer yes to the question "there is a god" your an atheist. An "agnostic"(or what people think is agnostic) says "I don't know if there is a god" there for they are not theists so they are atheists. You can be gnostic Atheist and say I know there is no god or an agnostic Atheist and just say I don't know.

  • Nice Video. House is in the same line of thought as Stephen Hawking fyi.

  • i was religious..then agnostic..then athist..then spiritual agnostic, then athist again, now i really just dont care why is god such a big issues,i mean different gods surfaced every 2000 years more or less,i mean hes even evolved from the sun,to stones,to statues,to iricles,to boks..i mean wt dose all of this even have to do with reality?

  • Define real.

  • This is awesome!A great ? is God,and religion as a whole just something to have faith in to explain the struggles in life, which will always be open for debate.I personally have gone back and forth as to which is the right way to look at life...it's a tough call. This is a great compilation of clips,if you create another along these lines add in the episode w/ the priest who was accused of molesting a kid.

  • "I just need to die knowing that something is different because I was here."

    amen

  • @oAzREZNoR Meh. Would it change anything for you after you're passed away?

Not only that, that guy was being an arse, and if she'd had any back bone, she wouldn't left that man to die on his own. Seeing someone die? Not fun. Seeing someone die form the same disease that killed your loved one? Don't want to thing about it.

  • @rodyle1313

    well... I hadn't seen that episode :P

but I would think so. if nothing else, it would give me closure. I mean really, whatever does happen after you die, wouldn't it at least make you feel better knowing that something you did mattered?

  • @oAzREZNoR I don't know. If there's nothing after death, there won't be a you to feel better. Not only that, I have a somewhat nihilistic view on things, and it's very hard to do something that matters when you look at the large scale of things. We have an nigh infinite universe, both in time and in space. How could a human ever do something so drastic that he changes something on a meaningful scale in such a universe?

  • @rodyle1313 He can't.

  • @rodyle1313 I guess it depends on your idea of meaningful, I find my life very meaningful to me and the people around me, even if there is life on other planets it would not be like us or that's highly highly unlikely and even if other humans evolved on other planets I'm still unique in the universe that has meaning on a universal scale. My life and experiences are unique and will never happen again, I think that is meaning enough on a universal scale, of course you are free to disagree.

  • @fireflygirl246 It's a nice though. Still, I have to disagree on it with you.

  • @rodyle1313 of course you do, you have a different opinion oh what meaningful on a universal scale is. all that is fine because it subjective opinion nothing more, that is all ether of us has and we both have a right to our own opinion on this one, it is not a matter of facts.

  • I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode, but I don't remember the clip where House is talking to the young blonde by the lake....Anyone know what episode that was?

  • @alueshen The episode was called "One Day, One Room." I believe it was season 4?? But I can't be sure. They've all run together in my head after 3.

And yeah, my note about civility is a little outdated now. Although the majority of comments are still relatively reasonable for YT, I think.

  • @stephantom Actually is season 3. It's the only season I own.

    Great Video btw.

  • @stephantom beautiful girl...

  • its season 3 episode 12. one day one room. its my favorite episode of the show. im atheist and so when house gets into these little philosophical rants with the religious he just bakes them alive i especially love what he says with the girl by the lake, the rape victim, everyone says he has no heart and hates life but that isnt true he is just miserable with pain because in fact he loves life. sorry im ranting. haha yea alueshen its episode 12 of season 3.

  • @stephantom After three and a half years do you think you could have done much better on this? I don't, thanks for sharing.

  • @stephantom its season 3 episode 12...pretty sure

  • @stephantom yeh she was raped, wasn't she?

  • @stephantom indeed it was, one day, one room

  • @stephantom but also, the first clip or two...?

  • @alueshen Yes "one day one room". season 3

  • @alueshen : is One day , one room

  • I watched the video, read the authors comments, one of which was; "Btw, I am very impressed by the civility and thought in the discussions in the comments!"

Then I read this...."".A priest told me this"

Before, after or during the time he was fucking you in the ass?"

I've concluded that either the authors definition of "civility" differs from mine or things have slowly spiraled out of control.

Anyway, I got a good chuckle out of it.

Great vid, House is the only sitcom I watch...Great show.

  • @Codester145 the QURAN is the only original religious book!

  • @FirasTeinz The only original? What about the Bible? Book of Mormon? There are plenty of original religious texts out there.

  • @Codester145 the bieble and all the other books were Deviated , but the Holy Quran , cuz it's the latest and newest one, and it includes all the truth , ex: jesus is not a god , there is only one god!! , who sent messangers like jesus!

  • @urs4ever86 u sound wise , wut's ur religion!! cuz ur comment is smart ,

  • @FirasTeinz Thank you so much, but it's not about religion, this could come out from a Christian, Jew or Buddhist, so my religion is irrelevant for this matter... and by the way I'm a Muslim (and damn proud)

  • Any sensible person can figure out that religion and God is bull shit. I find that religion is still good though since it give many hope and a happier life with that comfortable notion of eternal life.

  • I, kkwillsaveus suggest to you that you read a book called mere christianity. Before you start flaming about how I'm a nut, this book is by CS Lewis and he explains the Christian faith through logic and reasoning, you should read it before you make sterotypical statements about people. I think even if your not a christian you will find the book interesting I sure did.

  • @kkwillsaveus i explain my religion with science, and truth, like house says: trust must be earned by God...God earned it in my case, and i found a lot of evidences, and i explained him by science, and logic

  • @prdaca: then you do not understand neither science nor logic...

  • @prdaca ohh really , n wut's ur religion?

  • really because you would be the first person in the world to have found actual scientific evidence or evidence of any kind to prove god exists. If you have such evidence you should share it with the world, there is a Nobel prize and a million dollars waiting for you if you can do it. Like most of these claims I suspect you do not have actual evidence and have reduced the word evidence to the point that it is meaningless to support your belief that you have reasons other then faith to believe.

  • I tend to believe more in God, rather than what man says about God

  • God was created by men because we fear of being on the top and falling from it.

"All living creatures place their faith in someone more powerful than them and they cannot survive unless they blindly follow that person. The recipient of that faith then seeks out someone in an even higher position in order to escape from the pressure. That person than seeks out someone even more powerful that he must put his faith in. In this way all kings are born and in this way all Gods are born."

  • @robinhood201218 Thats circular reasoning.

  • @robinhood201218 do u believe that jesus is god??

  • @robinhood201218 if such a being as god exists that would probably be a good plan, my question is, how can you know anything about such a being? If you are not basing your ideas of god off of some other persons ideas of god then what are you basing them off of? Even just the concept of god is something you have learned form others. If god talks to you through your heart and feelings how can you tell when its you, just a man vs when its god?

  • "... Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

    - Buddha

  • "You can put your faith in God to get you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road I know you look both ways". I love that quote.

  • I love it! ^________^

  • In my opinion im on house's side on the hole religion argument, it really in this day and age doesn't make sense..

  • @neo56695 Very well said, I agree with you. He live in rational times, if people think for a second, and if they have the ability to think for themselves for one second, most religious beliefs just don't make sense.

  • Comment removed

  • @neo56695 All things don't make sense when you don't understand - And "this day and age" doesn't change that fact

  • @gamal01 , In this day and age peoples view on religion should change. Look back to primitive man we worshiped the sun because it made crops grow, all of the other Greek gods ones that controlled wind, lightning its all for people that need a higher explanation of why things happen.

Science has proven we evolved, proven what creates lighting wind etc. Now Gods are mere fiction novels that have turned to cults

This is just my take/oppinion on religion, No offense intended.

  • @neo56695

You fail to realize that the Christian God is so infinitely beyond a sun God or even the sun itself. You also just affirmed the Bible by doing exactly what it said you would do. That is, forget God, act like you are bigger than you are and act as if the human race is capable of becoming God in reaping all the power and manipulating the universe and perhaps going beyond that. No relevance to today? Its more relevant than anything. The message of Jesus is foolishness to the proud.

  • @v01741r31 I do not think that i can become a god because it does not exist. The bible is a fiction novel that started a mass cult that teaches people to turn there noses up at others that don't practice there books ways, by giving them a name ethiests. And please explain the bit about forgetting god because how in todays world with the Cristian church is always on the news i think you know why, and most of the others get mentioned allot as well you cant escape it.

  • @neo56695

You're very entrenched in your beliefs. #1. Did it ever occur to your simple mind that people might not believe in God merely because of the faith relationship but rather they think it rational to believe? #2. Go ahead, discard all of those smart dead men of the past as loonies. #3. Go ahead and discard the history of the west for that matter. #4. As you have demonstrated, dogmatic people like yourself will exist whether Christians are here or not. Being dogmatic isn't always bad.

  • @v01741r31 I simply believe that believing in a god is for the weak minded if you need a god to turn to in times of crisis its absolutely no different than turning to a friend of family member, other than your talking to yourself......... again im just speaking my mind i dont meant offense

  • @neo56695

Also the argument you propose is not new, nor does it conflict with Christianity at all. You could also make the case that science has established Christian theism and theism in general, its subject to interpretation. You only think that you have a case, when you don't. Science answers different questions from philosophy and religion. They are different tools. You can't use science to ask any questions of meaning or intentionality, you can't use religion to give us quantum physics.

  • @v01741r31 Lets face it, we are both biast. But with that being said my opinions still stand. Believing in Gods is being superstitious just because theres a book just because you have buildings dedicated to it doest make it real. I don't have a problem with faith but i do have a problem with a religion that looks down on people that don't share there belives. Ive been brought up around Christianity R.S i just never bout it. And i ask you kindly next time you reply to me dont quote scripture

  • @neo56695 there are two different kinds of evolution, Macro and Micro evolution. yes if you put a an animal in a different enviroment they will adapt, but if u set them in the same place for a thousand years they will not into something completely different like we have said to be.

  • @neo56695 i completely agree with everything you said, but today, science has become the new religion. people turn to science for everything. we assume that science can explain it all. (and yes, i am one of those people and im really not even that religious) but the truth is, science cant explain everything. science is just another way of people creating explainations for things. science is only based on observation and inferrence. science constantly proves itself wrong.

  • @MrTsquared88 You cant compare science to religion, science is based of knowledge, logic reason solid evidence of how and why things happen. Not labeling it that God works in mysterious ways every time you don't understand something that happened

  • @neo56695 noo you definately can compare them. yes, science is based on logic and reason and knowledge, but its only as good as the people who come up with it. at one point, it was science that mice formed in grain. at one point, it was science that the sun revolved around the earth. science can only explain what we observe about the world. and in the same way as religion, we basically put out faith in it, and assume a theory or formula is always right every single time we use it.

  • @MrTsquared88 , I disagree, there are logical reasons for things we don't understand its just that we cant comprehend them as of yet, but religion is a fairy tail with cult followers nothing more. Science has already proven that God did not create man we evolved just like every other living organism on this planet. But unlike the rest of the species on earth we are the only ones stupid enough to believe in such superstitious things. we are no different than any other life form, we live we die

  • @neo56695 and you know this for a fact? you were there and you saw every single organism on the planet evolve? Im not saying that youre wrong at all, i believe in evolution too, its just that its based on evidence, not proof. and even if scientists proved that evolution works, do you know for a fact that every species on earth evolved that way? were you there witnessing it?

and btw, im not like a religious fanatic trying to prove that science is a lie or anything, im just making a point

  • @MrTsquared88 , we do have the proof of evolution the fossils carbon dating etc. so no i wasn't there to witness evolution or i might actually be jusus myself lol. But evolution packs a pretty hefty blow to the whole bible story. And if you keep saying how do i know science is true thats like saying are the medicine i take just placebo. For me science is logical. but anyway nice debating/talking to you. i didn't mean to offend with any comments

  • @neo56695 yeah, but fossils are just evidence. and im not saying the bible is true, because i do believe in evolution. and yes, science is more logical than religion. but yeah nice talking/ debating with you too. you didnt offend me, and i didnt mean to offend you either :)

  • @MrTsquared88 , yes but solid evidence.. and no you didnt offend me either. I just feel obligated to say no offence on some of these comments if someone els reads them lol

  • You can put your faith in god to get you through the day, but when comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways. thats epic hehe.

  • My favorite episodes are One Day One Room and No Reason. Those two really get into Houses head about Life and religion. I have very similar beliefs..i also agree with the One Day One Room thing. Great video and thank you for posting.

  • This is why I feel so much like House: Because he hates the hipocresy, and the beliefs that had no logical reasons to support them. I dont really now if God exist. But if he does, he cant be the one that cause all the problems in the world. I also hate when people make decisions that affect others (like their future children) based only in emotions (like have sex without protection). Children will suffer by those retarded teenagers that arent ready ton deal with such enormous task.

  • he is also concerned to prove that there is no valid reason why he personally should not do as he wants to do, or why his friends should not seize political power and govern in the way that they find most advantageous to themselves. … For myself, the philosophy of meaninglessness was essentially an instrument of liberation, sexual and political.’ (to be continued)....

    Aldous Huxley

    Reference

Huxley, A., Ends and Means, pp. 270 ff.

  • I don't think House believes in God, but he would like to believe in God, so that it isn't all meaningless.

As sad as it sounds, I agree, I would like to believe in a God that is loving, caring and decent. But I know in my heart of hearts that such a being cannot exist, because of what I have seen in this world.

House is an awesome show though.

  • ouch... some of the philosophies here are so dumb that it's almost painful to hear them. Particularly that dying lady talking about "god's love."

  • the answer is..... HE DOESNT KNOW.

  • the meaning of life: 1. eat 2.sleep 3.F**k 4.die that was the meaning but we wanted to enjoy life so THANKS HUMANITY

  • wow..that was nihilistic..

  • great video! please never

    delet it

  • house seems like the snake (satan) with people.... house you're gonna cause more suicides in the world...!!

  • I'm an existentialist. And the Absurd explanation of Camus is the best of the nothingless of life. I trend between Self-determinism and hard-determinism. when you look back on the choises you made, its finally a logic choice in Causality. So yes you can choice your own choices but afterall they are logic causalities. There is no meaning in life, you've to make your own meaning. Find you talents, find what you do best and love. And life that live passionatly. And when you die it is over.

  • @SseBb that seems utterly and completely logical to me.

  • In my opinion, people use religion and god for many things. People use god to explain bad things, because if they don't explain it, they feel helpless. Also, let us not forget that any religion in the world sums up great deals of money from it's belivers. Personally, I don't belive in god, and my understanding of god and religion is close to House's.

Btw, How did the founders of any religion know that there even is a god(s), if noone ever saw him? Man created god, not vice versa.

  • @shariItachi "If God did not exist there would be the need to invent him." -Voltaire

  • Hahaha. House is not the meaning of life. it is 42 :D. I love Hugh Laurie!!!!!! Wilson and Chase canto

  • MR.SANTOS HERE PEOPLE!

IBELEVE THAT WE ARE HERE JUST FOR SOME KIND OF TEST OR SOMETHING BYOND OUR OWN EXPLENATON OF WHAT YOU COSIVED AS HAPPINESS

  • God (probably) doesn't exist...

  • Can someone please tell me why life is so shit? I spend my time doing the most boring, tedious and pointless bollocks. The world has no justice or meaning. Things that used to make me happy, are now making me angry and depressed. The only thing I can remember happening to me that was good, was getting a letter from my favourite comedian. How sad eh !?! If there is a 'God', he's the biggest piss taker of all. Is there one good reason not to go to sleep tonight and never wake up again?

  • @qwerty24198 You can blame the devil for being a lying piss taker. Well, according to Shakespeare he thought hell to have been empty. All roads lead to suffering and dead ends in this life. All is meaningless and vanity. Sad but true. "Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind." Ecclesiastes 1:12:17 The truth will set you free. Pray, ask and seek.. :) God Bless :) It really is darkest before the dawn.

  • @freedomtrain007 It don't even think God can save me from the road of ruin. I feel as though I am burning in hell and I am not even there yet. Me not being here feels like the only option for everyone. I don't fit in this world. Thank you for replying that's nice of you.

  • Nice video, by the way.

I love theological and existential questions, too. You did a really nice job! Thumbs up. :)

  • when you die your spirit goes to the moon, thats what the moon is, a spirit haven. I read it in bella magazine and bella dont lie.

  • Nice work. My favorite moment of any house episode is where he says, "I find it more comforting to believe that this isn't simply a test."

Right on! Sums it all up for me. Those of us working really don't have the luxury to fiddle about with unproductive 'Higher Power' quandaries. The evidence for our own existence is what we encounter and create everyday and it is more than sufficient.

  • its ilegal upload this videos on youtube

  • Great video! You chose some nice clips!! Which season/episode is at :10? I'm a huge fan and have all 5 seasons dvd but I haven't watched the earlier ones in forever. Thanks, I appreciate it!!

  • "Believe What You Want" Just don't harm others or there beliefs

  • This is a nice picture to see how religious in a sarcastic way dont follow they'r logic and can't face the truth because they are afraid of I dont know god, death, hell ...

  • Theist < Atheist < Agnostic.

-the Theist is open to a god[s], but blind to no god[s].

-the Atheist is open to no god[s], but blind to a god[s].

-the Agnostic is open to both, & blind to nothing.

  • Look up William Lane Craig videos for a good defense of Christianity and the existence of God.

  • Noone with consciousness would feel comfort knowing that their thoughts and time are limited , no matter how rational and intelligent they may be.

  • I have to agree with Dr. House.

    He is a rolemode, a hero - and a amazing character (:

  • 'Your actions here are all that matters.'

That line chills me. I agree, but the way he put it was moving, it makes me want to do things on this Earth, be good, and make an impact on something.

  • thank you for making this. I love all the philisophical/thoelogical debates on here too.

  • I have never watched house, but after this I will take a look at it from time to time

  • hey Im doing a play interview at school and need to preform a monologue

is there anyone who knows where i can get the text for the monologue that House was saying in this video?

  • Yup, religion is worthless.

  • @DSD1v57BG32 no it isn't and another thing did you even think before you typed that

  • @coreysollars50

    Yes, its worthless to society.

  • @DSD1v57BG32 NO its not worthless its important to a majority of the population maybe not all people but some but anyway we'll all figure out in the end

  • @coreysollars50

    Why does one need religion?

  • @DSD1v57BG32 i don't neccesarily need it , i just use it as protection kind of like a condom you use it for protection to make sure you don't get her pregnant and with religon its to make sure that your ok just to be on the safe side, i don't view mine as religon though, oh and another thing im not saying that we are right because in all honest truth i don't know what is real and whats not

  • @coreysollars50

Oh yes the old pascals wager.

  • @DSD1v57BG32 don't know what pascals wager means but i think i know what your saying lol

  • what episode is 1:30 ?

  • "When it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Because you can tell me you put your faith in God to get you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road I know you look both ways. " - House

:)) That's an excellent example. If faith is all that matters for a person, what's the meaning to look both ways?

  • "Your actions here are all that matters." - House

That's true. This understanding is commonly known by Buddhists. The world itself has no inherent existence to have meaning from a rationalists perspective. This is the real world.

  • I am very glad that Existential questions that we all (should) have, come up on House.. I suspect they are not brought up in school where a person's lifetime of critical thinking should be initiated and civility reniforced. Who am I? Why am I here? Do I have a purpose? Can I live without a purpose? How should I relate to others? Why is there is something rather than nothing?....and the ever popular..What if you're wrong?

    ...........................hey, just askin.

  • great mix

  • I need help. what is the ep when house is out side with the blonde lady 1:24. Msg me please if you know it, Thanks

  • @spyguy122 One Day, One Room- one of my favourite eposides of all time

  • I enjoyed this and found it very thought provoking. In regards to the comments I've read: I am amazed how quick people are to take the concept of "God," and associate it with their own brand of spirituality. It has the meaning you give to it and nothing more... and if you feel the need to jam it in other people's faces, then I would seriously question the validity of any kind of religion that requires that level of defending.

  • nihilism is freedom

  • Question: what episode is that first bit from?

  • House is a little negative, but life is really hard!!!

  • Amazing. Fantastic editing job!! Very happy you made this. I downloaded it to keep!!

  • great video; love these types of discussions.
