It is official" Interpol Romania can not arrest ionescu due to diplomatic immunity. Thus, he will be prosecuted under Romanian law".

I know this is not a good news but keep in mind that 2 weeks ago one elected senator from Romanian Parliament was arrested for corruption acts and he was also protected by immunity.

from wikipedia: Diplomatic immunity - It is possible for the official's home country to waive immunity; this tends to only happen when the individual has committed a serious crime, unconnected with their diplomatic role (as opposed to, say, allegations of spying), or has witnessed such a crime.

I don't suppose drinking, driving and killing someone is connected to their diplomatic role...

That already happened twice with American officials (killing Romanian citizens in car accidents - the victims number was higher as compeered with Singapore). They went out in 24hours and could not be prosecuted - shame for America and if nothing changes for Romania. At the time when all these happened I had more or less the same ideas as you do. What kept me on the track was that I have tremendous respect for B.B. King, Seinfeld and others.

Nothing will happen.Your country signed an agreement for immunity of diplomats.He's a lier and a shit and hope he don't get away.I notice they call him doctor?Why?He don't look like PHD type and if he was medic he would not let somebody die.What doctor means, i hear this a lot

to all, it is a tragedy to see our fellow PR was killed by the ROMANIAN diplomat. That man must be punished for his evil act. i have a question for all who read my post.Why was he allowed to leave the Singapore within days if he is not clear of suspicions.?Any fools know AUDI car is not easily stolen letalone be our vigilant police.Should Home affair minister WONG KAN SENG explain to the public for the departure of Romanian diplomat ?This is quite similar to escape of mas selamat incident

I would like to see him on jail in Singapore not in a fancy Romanian low security prison or having a symbolic sentence. My respect and sympathies go out to victims families and friends. P.S. And yes I am a Romanian citizen

The Government can not and will not hand over Romanian citizens to other countries without having mutual accords and "final sentence/verdict" obtained from the highest legal authority of the country that made the inquiry.

Even if the subject has attacked intense media attention in Romania and he will have to bear the shame of his acts for the rest of his life, I do not expect any honorable act from that person, except trying to bribe witnesses/victim's families.

Unfortunately Romanian law protects the "author's" rights better as compared with victims case.

Anyhow, if there are strong evidences, ultimately he will be sentenced in Singapore or Romania.

My only suggestion is that all victims from this tragic event to from a group and independently of state prosecution will fallow civil litigation process against him.

Anyhow, for the period of the investigations ionescu (no dr, and no capital letter) is suspended from his position and must be at Romanian Authorities disposal.

All of the sudden he is very ill (diabetes) and under this cover he will probably use a motion to delay the trial.

Due to indirect circumstances (he was leaving Singapore ASAP, as a coward), I believe he is guilty as hell.

Latest news, he is under investigation under Romanian law for the car accident and leaving the premises. Everything depends on Singaporean police - Romanian prosecutor collaboration.
