@Hkepfer I believe that what @melonhead82 is saying is that they're first elected as representatives in their respective constituencies (John Bercow for the House of Commons in the UK and [currently] Nancy Pelosi for the House of Representatives in the US) then, as you point out, their elections as speaker are in house and independent of their elections as representatives or MP.

The Speaker keeps order in the house, and the people elecet the speaker during the election, but the whole house votes for a new speaker when one retires.

And the CHouse of Commons is a Democratic House, allowing freedom of speech to everyone who is elected for the people.

Neither USA nor UK lower house speakers are directly elected by the people; they are elected by other elected members.

I get angry though because Labour are not really socialist enough - They have not reversed the anti union laws which thatcher brought in and they may have introduced a minimum wage but they did it at a rate which turns people into job slaves.

Better to have a Tory government which cripples the country so that we can have riots on the street like with the poll tax and hopefully see a revolution.
