Maybe the style is like Harry Potter. But for a KIDS film this was pretty badass you had gore in it, you had some really creepy scenes. Eh maybe some of the characters annoyed me in some parts but overall Good for a fantasy film for kids. Especially something from Nickeloden. Usually they play it safe for children but in this one they weren't afraid to show some gore and frights for children.

the books were better! but both holly and tony have better works. holly's other books are just amazing, and tony's books are more for kids, but that's because he's an artist, not a writer...to be fair thou, his art work blows me away! i would give it a full price, and something to proudly display on your dvd rack

I do like Nick Nolan though. He does a good job playing monsters. He was great as the werewolves in Ginger Snaps! That's to say the girl who changed into one was scarier, but he was good. He was pretty good in this. But this film itself isn't exactly for me. I like the Narnai and LOTR films better.

I read the Spiderwick Chronicles when I was younger- it wasn't a ripoff of the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter. It was unique and I liked it.

why are people calling this a Harry Potter rip-off, I mean in my opinion this movie along with LOTR, Pan's Labyrinth and Narnia are a heck of a lot better than Harry's movies. Also there are things in this movie that Harry Potter doesn't have like ACTUALL magical creatures not that dog Fluffy or the snitch

I saw this movie last Thursday with my sister and...IT WAS AWESOME. I mean the creatures like the troll were amazing and I agree with the guys, Mulgarath was VERY scary. So from both me and my sister we HIGHLY recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see it

I really liked this movie too. It's nonsensical, it doesn't explain much, it's run-of-the-mill and predictable. BUT! The movie has so much more to it that it's just recommendable! It's just good, clean, wholesome, well-acted material and I suggest that everyone give this a shot, whether at the dollar show or otherwise.
