Generally you'd either deal with or avoid the mines. :)

Really though, were you turning on cinematic mode to try to make it a better video? It's not a good idea if you are trying to demonstrate anything (even with this army rather than managing the battle more and having a more ideal fleet etc).

awesome battle. If I were the Vasari, I'd probably resorted to an Orkulus assault. Plant a space turnip in his grav well, protected by Overseers, and level it up to take on the Argonev. I once took out a fully upgraded Transencia this way. Can't wait for the new expansion, Rebellion. We'll see dedicated starbase-killers with the new Titan-class ships.

Not for bad but, why do people plase their star bases at the edge of the gravity well?

I allways put them close to my planet, so it can fire at any enmy ship that tries to get close at my planet, also i put tons of gauss turrets to form a ring around my planet so no one could bombard it.

Also i heavily mine the edge of the gravity well for the direction where there is an enemy colony.

the starbase is ment to complement the defense not be it, place it into your main cluster of buildings and get d tures, also some hanger defensses with flak turets should surround it, by the way, the varsi suck against starbases, no anti buildings

What the Vasari lack in non-starbase counters to starbases, they make up for with Scramble Bombers on the Skirantra carrier capitals, also since their bombers have phase missiles you can use a Subverter to bypass the shields and mitigation of the starbase.

The Vasari starbase can also be THE defense, at least against the AI, since it can move around the gravity well. Build a Kostura Cannon and you can bypass enemy starbases and attack their home planets.

@XoRandomGuyoX both a well made varsi starbase and a kostura are very expensive, especially when several anti building units blast it for an eighth of the cost, i find it better to use starbases at border planets of at leastn 3 empires, so i can launch a campaign without being flanked, a starbase next to a pirate base and the crossroads is all you ever need, the varsi can also be do a lot with their base units, whose higher attack is superior to the other races

this game is great for many reasons, a normal game for example is atleast an hour. Larger ones are +5 hrs

I've had a fully upgraded TEC starbase stand up to 4 whole fleets that were waved against it. Damn near lost it on the 5th one but I decided I should probably send a support fleet. It was, sadly, only holding an asteroid belt.

You just need to patch the game. If you have diplomacy you need to download version 1.01.

A starbase, supported by gauss cannons and hangar defenses and a mine belt is actually pretty tough. Not to mention two of them.

We were really just trying to see if frigates could do anything, although had we been really playing I probably would've used a better force + used more cap abilities.

its a reserch go to your (if tec) defence tree and reaserch the construction one. then go to frigete factory and build it from the crusier menu

In all honesty, we wanted to see if a starbase could take on large force made up of weak units. So this isn't meant to be taken as an actual strategy...

dude 5 vasari capitals can bring down a fully upgraded tec starbase i think it the carriers that can use the repair cloud

Yes, they are going to make 3 mini expansions. Once all three are out they are going to re-release the game and include them.
