Also, do applications have to be installed to the internal NAND or can they be installed to the expansion card? Or can you at least hold application data on a expansion card. So do you perhaps have qbase on you memory card? Do you have 2.1 could you tell use what free ram usage is like after boot with some basics running?
@stsfin basic OpenGl is possible without a dedicated Gfx chip. 'openGL support' is clearly not what I mean....
I have sort of answered my question now anyway, it seems to be a 'No'. Even if it's a 'YES' and does have some sort of 'gfx chip' (colloquial) its awful as these HTC's struggle to even run GLquake, something an old N95 flies in.
So for 3D this is well behind the Iphone, N900...
Seem like a wait for the samsung Gal. S for decent 3d, but even then you still have the awful Dalvik.
@CmdrTobs Well first of all the N900 and Iphone 3dS have a faste gfx chip than the hero, if you wan't to compare something you have to compare the n900 vs. moto milestone / nexus one / htc desire / htc legend, and the quake3 is allready ported to android. So you are still a littlebit off with your response. And Dalvik beats n900:s Debian and X-window based system anytime.
@stsfin Really? I have read about developers of emulators having trouble with Androids speed.
The Cortex-A8 with powerVR4XX are without a doubt better at 3D. So I don't know how you could compare the Nexus etc..to the n900, N900 is at a far more advanced price point for this.
You really think Delvik VM is quicker than a Maemo ? Really? You gotta have some strong evidence to fly that one.
It seems the writings on the wall for me, I will prob get a Desire. Its too good on value.
@CmdrTobs I'm gonna clarify my point a little bit, the Motorola Milestone has the same Cortex-A8 as the N900 (but slightly underclocked), The nexus/desire has the snapdragon which can push more poly count (in theory than then A8). The dalvik-vm is not the issue here since most of the HW-intensive stuff has to be coded with the NDK.
@CmdrTobs What I ment with the maemo comment was from a coders point of view, if you code for X+GTK it's not that intuitive than with googles apis. As soon nokia brings out the next iteration of maemo which is build fully around kde/qt it will be a diferent story.

@stsfin@stsfin@stsfin When it comes to Android phones What is the significance of the NAND mem size and Ram size from your Android experiences? The dumbing down of technology these days is driving me mad:
The sony X10 according to many sources apparently has:
"1GB internal memory"
"1GB internal Rom & Ram
"1Gb NAND memorable with 512MB of ram"
" 128MB GPU memory 256MB Ram and 1GB internal-flash" (Makes the most sense)
Hi, i have Quake on HTC hero too, in deed it runs smooth, but i can't seem to adjust to the on screen controls because of the lacking multi-touch. I can live with the D-pad for moving but not for looking and targeting, i was wandering if the trackball can be used for that, although i tried to bind the "look up/down" and it still moves forward/back. Please let me know
Wow, runs smooth, unlike my HTC Hero, It can't even play ping pong.

If only the HTC phones had gfx chips..... suppose they had to cut some where as they are always leading spec at any price point by a mile.
CmdrTobs 1 year ago
@CmdrTobs they have gfx chips, this wouldnt be possible without OpenGL support.

@stsfin Nah, the Snapdragon GPU die is worse. There is a good reason why every demonstration of 3D on a HTC looks turd.
