actually the actress who played Lo is 15 playing a 12yearold, and while i agree that she is too old to be Lo from the book, they couldn't very well have an actual 12 year old doing those kind of scenes with 50 year old Jeremy Irons, even if he is a babe.

It's not her body or her character. It's that she was love and nostalgia incarnate. Humbert previously loved a girl named Annabelle, who was Lolita's prototype, so much that he spent his life looking for her after her death. But he looked for her as he remembered her (a teenager). Unfortunately the pedophilia thing is too much of a red herring for some people.

Dominique Swain is perfect as Dolores, and this version is far superior to Kubricks's. The novel is exceptional, Nabokov's writing gives us some of the most beautiful prose ever committed to paper. And to think he wasn't even a native English speaker.

all he wants in the movie is the young girls body. he deals with her difficult character just to gwt to the body. the whole movie focuses on her body.

@ukrainianZAIKA I don't know about that, I think he "loved" her for her childish personality too, I mean it's easy enough to find a woman who looks young, just look at the actress, she was 17 or 18 in real life. But I do agree that the move is very focused on her body. It's like they're tying to make us see her from humbert's point of view so we don't immediately go "ewww pedo" or something.

The 1997 version was actually a pseudo-adaptation of the book. So, the director made her look a bit older. Something like 14 rather than 12. Plus, most people would accept the movie more if she looked a bit older. :/.
