Depending on how cheap you can score the transformers, which are most expensive in this demonstration, prob less than a hundred bucks. I got mine on eBay.

the bottle is sitting on an energized hard disc platter, and an electrode is at the mouth of the bottle.

oh and is the bottle filled with a noble gas? cause i tried to get a similar effect with a light bulb but it just burned a hole through the glass. :(

There are 4 8kv transformers, overvolted for 10kv each, and then series/paralleled into 1 20kv @ 60ma unit.
