I can never sing this song without crying because it is the first and last song I sang to my grandpa before he died when I was little. I could not even see him when I sang it because he was in the hospital and I was too little to see him. My mom says when she talked to him over the phone when I was finished singing he was crying and couldn't talk to her.

This song is attributed to Mary Myth Maker, a 19th Century composer with an enormous imagination. Actually, a reporter was on scene at the time and wrote about the Virgin birth in his journal. I am a firm believer that this is how it was made into a song.

No he didn't write it. The writer is unknown. It was first found in a Lutheran book in 1885, and that is why people my think he wrote it.

Very well song! Its a relief to finally find one sung the british way on here. For those who don't know, away in a manger has two melodies, its the same lyrics but a different tune. I personally prefer this one (having grown up with it) but the other is good too! :)

My brother worked in Kuala Lumper and lived there for a few years with his wife and children. We visited Penang and Batu Caves and even met the King.We had to wait in a queue for about an hour then our turn came and we shook his hand and gave him greetings from Ireland.
