My uncle died for about five minutes, because of an allergy to anesthetics, his lungs filled up, and now he's an atheist. When I was a hard-core Catholic, I asked him what it was like to be dead, and he told that I had NOTHING to fear. This didn't really play a big role in my journey to atheism, however. It is an interesting story. What's weird, is that my Grandfather also nearly died around the same age, but became a strict Catholic afterward.
Is it really weird? I think people that have the same experience never view it exactly the same. Your grandfather and uncle are different people. These two reactions are not weird due to their differences. They may be interesting because comparing them provides proof that everyone is different.
