  • Didn't the London Horn Sound also record this song?

  • I didn't even know a french horn could make that kind of noise. I've been playing for three years and I'm not even half as good as that. Bravo.

  • Awesome, especially Stefan Dohr .. Great!

  • I've been playing horn for almost a year, won't be able to do that for another ten thousand...

  • if angels play the trumpet then God plays the Frnch horn! lol french horn players are the best kissers of the brass players also!

  • That looks like such a blast to perform in.

  • vaaaaa....uuuuuu...super....................

  • Oh, for a second it looked like the little section in heaven reserved for the best horn players.

  • impressive... your av ISD band NOT... LOL ROFL LOL unless MMP Ms. Margo has them by the ear (pun intended) for at least 4 years...

  • World's treasures

  • okay last thing, if this was on itunes, i would buy it with out a doubt.

  • Also, why the heck would anyone dislike this? 3 people are out of there minds!

  • @shmorgs717 Those 3 people don't have speakers on their computers.......lolol

  • i cannot get over how amazing this group is. its absolutely unbelievable. i listen to this all the time and never get tired of it. it was actually my ringtone for awhile. :)

  • More playable tempo than London Horn Sound so the runs come out nicely. And Sarah is so sick...pedal Ebs for the win

  • I am surprised that nobody has said "Three people are trumpet players"

Amazing job on this recording. Definitely some of the best talent this world has to offer!

  • those runss are so cleanly played .. (:

  • I like Stefan's tie...

  • FRENCH HORN IS AN AMAZING INSTRUMENT

  • They have tons of confidence and aren't afraid......Fergus talks a lot about singing before playing something. He makes a really good point with it.......the instrument is merely an amplifier....Sing the music before you play it, it helps with confidence and builds your ear for pitching correctly. Listen to lots of recordings, and take lessons with lots of different people. Not just one person as everyone has something different to offer...a different perspective.

  • Sarah Willis........need I say more?

  • Baborak is the best! <3

  • One thing that I feel not enough people are talking about is the stopped horn!! Probably the best stopped horn I've ever heard!! I think the German government is secretly engineering musicians to be perfect

  • Watching that reminds me that I need to go lock myself in a practice room for a while.

  • wtf is he doing from 4:30 ?!

  • wow. i have never seen anyone play this well they inspire me! i also play french horn

  • did you notice the horn at 4:49 sorta choke on his saliva or something and slightly mess up... thats a hard section there, with a fast passage, loud and low as well. I give props to that guy for recovering so quickly!

  • @TheKevinV08 He had a 'natural' vibrato at 4:43 XD But it's true that it's a hard phrase because it wasn't only low and loud, it's long..

  • man is this awesome or what

  • i just threw up this was so awesome. not really. but wow.

  • Now thats good technique.

  • Stefan Dohr and Radek Baborak are the best in my opinion;and don't forget Sarah Willis.

  • Superlative playing. but I cant ignore the guy second from right, he looks much like Benny hill. (I keep waiting for the Yakety Sax to begin...)

  • Mamma mia che esecuzione!

    Davvero di un livello superiore!

  • That's what i call a high register

  • -.-

  • I hope to be this good one day. These kind of people inspire me to keep playing.

  • That Sarah Willis low horn stuff is awesome.

  • Horn is an exceedingly diffucult instrument to play. This is as good as it gets.

  • et Fergus McWilliam in Moscow in 1988 when the University of Maryland Chorus inder the IPPNW and volunteer orchestra members from all over North America and Europe did 4 Missa Solemnis performances in 5 days in Berlin, Dresden, Moscow and London under Dorati, he got on the chorus bus by mistake and was a truly fine person.

  • A few mistakes but it's amazing:)

  • yes as a horn player myself i can hear a few mistakes but f**k me if only i could play this good, and the quality is just superb, divine playing of one of the hardest instruments :)

  • I FOUND A FLAW!!! Theyre too perfect. It has to be a mistake....

European horn sound is so much richer than a North American horn sound. I wish I lived in europe. Beautiful

  • °_° just amazing,

i play french horn, and they're just mad XD

  • Did the German government genitically engineer these horn players or are they robots who just don't make mistakes? There cannot be a logical explanation for their perfection.

  • It's the power of the Horns!! Truly one of the more amazing instruments if I don't say so myself :D

  • I agree, this is as good as it gets. However, they DO make mistakes in this recording, which I admire. ALL recordings these days are edited from many many takes to get one perfect recording, and so I enjoy this performance more than any other.

  • Duh... All non-manufactured people know that playing horn will get them no where in life because they will never be able to get good enough at it

  • @Kutsurabi If you can play the horn decently well you can usually get some sort of scholarship or other

  • @rugbyplayer9999 They many mistakes if you listen but they are professionals which is why you can't really pick them out. stefan made a few and so did klaus.

  • @Euphy09 When you start to get into the extremities of the range, as this piece is demanding, the horn becomes more and more unreliable. The harmonics get so close together that you can play a lot of the notes with the same fingering. To be able to make that few mistakes in the register at this tempo while still making it sound good is beyond impressive. I'm not criticizing you for commenting because what you say is true but I thought Id give my thoughts.

  • @rugbyplayer9999 Explanation = practise and concentration.

  • @rugbyplayer9999 they started practicing this in their mothers womb

  • @rugbyplayer9999 Practice, practice, practice and Stephan doesn't make many mistakes although I did hear a clinker on a high note in this video.

  • @rugbyplayer9999

Only thing is two of them are actually American!!!! LOL!!!!

  • @rugbyplayer9999 No life Just practice. :)

  • semplicemente incredibile

  • aaaa AMAZING!!!!! :))) I love them.. and the 1st horn.. FANTASTIC!!!

  • easily the best version of this I've seen!!

    PERFECTION!

  • I love Glinka, especially played by horns! Talk about awesome!

  • They are so talented! And those runs are played by violins?! Amazing. You can't find better players.

  • well said

  • ONE WORD UNBELIVEBLE!!!!!!!!!

  • Wooooow, génial!!!

  • 超猛的!

    GJ!!

  • Great!!!

Before see this video I never thought this were possible in french horns!!!!!

Berlin Philharmonic is certainly the best orchestra in the world!!!

    Salutes from Brazil

  • Wow. Berlin Philharmonic let a woman play with them. Pinch me, I must be dreaming.

  • Listen to her. She's awesome. It's Sarah Willis :)

  • Actually, the first female member joined the Berlin Philharmonic almost thirty years ago. I guess there must be about 20 women playing in the orchestra now.

  • haha shes the first female BRASS player though

  • I approve of this video.

  • no. they. didnt. oh. my. fucking. gawd.

  • *jaw drop* that is a smokin' tempo. that's almost as fast as the regular speed...and those scales are played by violins!

  • you know nothing. I would like you to even "humm" these parts.

Anyone who says this is not precise needs to see a doctor.

  • Hahaha 7th horn loses his lip in the middle of his little solo and misses out his next bit lol... at around 4:35 - 4:52

  • Do you know who he is? Have you heard his Strauss 2 recording with Berlin? Have half the career he has had and then you can say something and be considered an ass. Right now you just look like a moron who is projecting his own lack of horn playing ability by bringing others down with his middle school mentality.

  • woah calm it mate, obviously i know who he is norbert hauptmann and he is bare good yeah, although personally i think he's lost it a LITTLE bit compared to what he used to be as you do with age. he is after all in the berlin phil and has been for AGES although now he is in my opinion not even close standard-wise to Dohr. And btw that's an opinion... so shhh

  • So sad to see people constantly look for the little mistakes that pros make. This is live music, we should be loving it and promoting it - sure sometimes there are mistakes, but sometimes there is fire that can not be achieved in recordings. If we push to hard for 100% perfection all the time we will find ourselves with out jobs, and live music a thing of the past. What kind of community are you trying to foster, you have an awesome recording and that's the only comment you can come up with?

  • i wasn't looking for little mistakes, i just find it quite funny that amazing players like him make the occasional mistake and it assures me, a hopeful future horn player, when even the best of the best make a little mistake, that not everything is perfect and you will make mistakes. And yeah i have an amazing recording off the London Horn Sound cd and there is not a single fault... you should check it out.

  • I too have that CD, and it is amazing, but it was also recorded in a studio and has been edited? So was Vienna horn sound. My point is this; the best make mistakes and have bad days, we all hear it, there is no need to be negative or call people out. It's not constructive to our community and isn't in the spirit of what we are trying to achieve. If you ever freelance you should probably learn that sooner than later.

  • agreed with finners....

  • Ah, us horn players are only human afterall? No matter what the level, there is bound to be a cack somewhere along the line! These guys are of course fantastic and are def by far the horn gods!

  • You're totally right, it's gonna happen at least once a concert on the hardest instrument in the orchestra, I always work harder on the parts I like so that some covered up part can be that one crack. It's how these guys act like they never happened and keep playing perfectly after a crack that makes them the pros of the Berlin Phil. GO Berlin Phil, and Vienna Horns as well.

  • this is amazing.

  • the run at 1:59 was not clean, and the guy didnt look happy at the end of it, he cut off the note and was probably thinking to himself "wow did i mess that up"

  • haha don't be so mean to him...... as long as ure in berlin philharmonic ure among the gods.. and the auditions were definately fair.. so this klaus wallendorf is still a pro ok! :)

  • who said anything about being mean? who said he wasn't a pro? I never argued his greatness however i was stating his tongue got slow, it wasn't a fingering issue as others had said. Though regardless of him having a professional reputation and being a very fine player it was very off for him to gesture like that. It could take away from the audience if you know what I mean.

  • that is probably the hardest excerpt in that piece.

  • WHAT. I swear people like you should be banned from youtube.

  • for stating his tongue got slow for one reason or another then saying he very visibly shrugged it off? perhaps it's in your school of teaching to make mistakes bluntly obvious however my background has taught me even if you were to make a mistake regardless of why it happened you don't wave a red flag to the audience, specially in recording. I am not a professional however, that is professional performance conduct.

  • I would love to hear you present those comments to that ensemble in person, or maybe post a video response of you playing it better. Oh and do it sooner than later they don't spend much time working on these pieces before they record them so neither should you!

  • uhm.. reading skills help. I said his tongue got slow, that isn't something you would need to comment on considering it happens to everyone and you can't prevent it, unless of course you were insinuating he never had the speed and focus to do it in the first place. thanks for acting big on youtube.

  • oh and did you know that the opening melody ah around 0:23 is not only played by stefan dohr the first horn, but also by the other stefan the third horn (bald guy.) i bet many people didn't know

  • people should start acknowledging the supporting horns

  • Бас не очень,а так все в ансамбле-молодцi!!!!!!!!

  • Roman Carnival Overture is Berlioz. This is Glinka. Ruslan & Ludmilla Overture.

  • amazing clean runs- lol @ the only grey suit tho

  • Ruslan in Ludmila from Mikhail Glinka for horns in F---that is realy the best...:P

    amaizing

  • Ruslan in Lundmila from Mikhail Glinka for horns in F---that s realy the best ..:D:D

  • It's a shame more people aren't aware of the music this beautiful instrument is capable of producing!

  • wow!!!!!! shxt!!!!! they are amazing!!!!

  • Looks like Dohr missed the memo about the black suits.

  • stefan dohr could come in a pink jumpsuit and i don't think anyone would mind it if it he played that.

  • i think of the horns and this song every single day, hour, and second..

    help me!

  • this just blows my mind.

  • its very nice!

  • oops its ruslan ludmilla

  • roman carnival overture
