Maybe NBC should do a "Come back to us" campaign similar to the "Stay With us" campaign post hurricane andrew. hahaha. Maybe that will help with the ratings...... Or maybe they should bring back the many good people they lost .
In the early '60s, Dead county had only four channels that I can remember: channel 2(public); 4(CBS); 7(NBC); and 10(ABC). It's still hard for me to think of WTVJ not being on channel 4. Then they began making TVs with UHF channels!
I am talking about back in 1980s/early 1990s when news stations used to actually promote Miami (Downtown Miami, metrorail) in their intros. Now if they promote anything, its South Beach.
KCNC-TV & KUSA-TV Also switched that night as well, none of them carried it live. In fact KUSA Didn't get NBC Until 4:30 in the morning after NBC Had to fight with Gannett to affillate KUSA With the network. KCNC Became a Westinghouse owned station and later (1996) a CBS O&O.
Yeah, move up to channel 6 and move down by way of signal strength! Here in downtown MIA, I have cable, but I have a backup set of "wabbit-ears" and the local signals come in fairly well EXCEPT for you guessed it "6". I understand WTVJ has their tower WAY down below Miami (Homestead), so they won't interfere with channel 6 in Orlando..but next year when analog signals go away the digital signals including TVJ should be no problem in town, since the digital towers are much closer to most of town.
Wow, that's some helmet head female anchor hair right there. But the editing on this piece? Superb. Absolutely sublime. And the anchors appear very professional and polished, so hey, helmet hair schmelmet hair? Possibly. Though that channel switch/change? Teh suckage, obv. Thanks for sharing this, from a local news nut who's never been in Florida. :)
Hey, I *did* compliment her anchoring, which is *the* big thing, so a little ribbing about the way her hair was styled some 12 years ago should be taken in stride. ;) Besides, at around this time period I was wearing long-sleeved flannel shirts and baggy t-shirts in 90 degree weather (I'm from TX), so I think we *all* deserve ribbing for our styling from that era. Funny how the Eighties don't look so dated anymore, huh?
September 9, 1995. WTVJ actually carried the switch live, they broke into Saturday Night Live's closing credits at about 12:58am with a Special Report to show the switch...they stayed on 'till about 1:10 or 1:15am. It was pretty fun to watch.
Do you have any wtvj/wfor-wcix promos and the first day of WTVJ on channel six(news open/anything else) Do you have the last day of WCIX/ the first day of WFOR?
Will and Uncle Phil are gettin' down to the news theme! LOL!

Somewhat deceptive report - "Only the channel is changing".
They weren't moving up to 6, they were moving DOWN to Homestead!
Fortunately, then were able to undo the geographic move with digital transition.

so did CBS used to be channel 6? I watch 58 instead of 6 since it's clearer, but 4 is still has a better signal.

@TVcompFrEaK You're thinking of Milwaukee, sir.

@WizardDuck I don't know anything about Milwaukee. I just said that because of what I read in this video's description.

@WizardDuck and for me CBS is 4 and NBC is 6, so I guess I had assumed that they had switched since NBC used to be 4 according to this video.

The good old days when news stations used to show footage of the MetroRail and Downtown Miami in their news intros.

Looks like they used WNBC's 4 logo up to the switch.
kimmykun 3 years ago
it was the Standard NBC 4 logo. They had a cool south florida variant up until 1994 when they changed it to make it similar to WNBC and KNBC
grahambrunk 3 years ago
Wasn't it in late 1992 when they began using the NBC 4?
puck220 3 years ago
ON and off they used it beginning in 1992, but by 1994 they completely switched to the NBC O&O 4

I love how that intro music sounds, very 90's and their graphics were spiffy for the time.

The change in Philadelphia and the change in South Florida were all related at the time.
