I have connected the dots and I can say with 80% confidence Gordon-Levitt will be playing the joker. First, check out the description on this video. Additionally, Nolan has stated that inspiration for the script came from Knightfall series (Bane), The Dark Knight Returns (Bruce's 8 year retirement), and No Man's Land (Joker kidnaps gotham's babies)

I think he'll be playing Nightwing, assuming Nolan still thinks it's too early for Robin (despite it being set 8 years after The Dark Knight).

1 thing I'm REALLY hoping for are a couple of cameos from well known villians. I mean, 8 years is enough time to get a few new enemies, right? I just think it would be brilliant if they had some of the more realistic ones, like Zsasz, or Penguin, or even Mad Hatter, Ventriloquist or Harley appear for 5 seconds.

I believe that Joseph Gordon Levitt is Edward Nigma. Yes, I know that Nolan said that there would be no Riddler in the Dark Knight Rises, but he did not say that there would be no Edward Nigma. Perhaps he will be portrayed as a wannabe Joker taking advantage of a Gotham fallen to the League Of Shadows. Or perhaps as a former Arkham inmate who is impersonating a police officer.
