Only the inspection II service (every 50,000 miles is expensive), basic service is £300. The GT-R above needs service every 6,000 miles at £600!, + regular expensive transmission oil changes. Dont ask about Disk+Pads for the GTR -£4,000 a set!! at the dealer (£1,500 on the E92 M3). I can afford to change to a new M3 but the costs of running a GT-R are a complete joke
@M3Conv I don't doubt that but the parts on the GT-R obviously provide a much better performance compared to what you get on the BMW or should I say the parts are of higher spec? The price of parts on the other hand are forced on owners, by tying it to the warranty but most owners tend to use aftermarket parts that sometimes provide better performance. The M3 is probably the best value for money here but I still have passion for the GT-R.

@nexorabolis Car and Driver is a known promoter of BMW, and they usually "cheat" in the tests of the BMW M3, look at the 2012 January magazine, it says the performance (in points) of the M3 is 2 better than the C63's, I am pretty sure that the performance is measured in is "zero to" times, and every single one of them is in C63's favor...and those 2 points are the ones the M3 wins by.
@torogami2 I don't think Nissan cares about BMW. The M3 is a simply a 3 series with a V8, whereas the GT-R and the 911 are purpose built. There is nothing BMW makes that can perform, on the track, at the same level as the GT-R. They've even abandoned their plans to build a supercar, I guess they know they wouldn't be able to compete.
@12389h BMW didn't have plans to make a supercar, they built m1 prototypes and the I8. The m1 was never planned to be put into production and the I8 still will be.

A car that does 0-60 in 3.6 seconds is pretty amazing. I know its not all about numbers but u gotta admire the GTR because its an engineering marvel. Also, I think there is a little part of all of us that would wanna smoke someone on the street, and the GTR would have no problem doing that.
@Gjmahn, Actually, if you want exclusive here in Orange County, you will probably want a Nissan GT-R because there are a lot of Porsche 911 over here in Orange County like it was a taxi car in New York. And you will see a lot of BMW 3-Series like it was a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord on street.
Just saying that there are some things that computers, and electronics will do better than humanly possible. Another example is a good sequential manual gear box will shift consistently quicker than a regular shifter and clutch setup.
the gtr drives only slightly better than a corvette,which is torture. the m3 has enough performance for most people save a professional driver and you can go on a 4-5 hr trip in comfort without being jarred. this makes bmw the ultimate driving machine
Even though its more rewarding when the driver does all the work, It's still proven that having computer aided handling helps get better lap times. I can't remember what year in formula one they banned these traction control aids, but they did because the ones that had them consistantly got better lap times. It was too much of an advantage.

GTR is better track car obviously. M3 is better car to leave with but slowest in this group. So numbers they give appear to be irrelevant to the conclusion. They need to specify what they really compare. I would go with m3 because it has back seats and I need them. Also after having bmw I just love them:)
The only downside of the GTR is how pretty much EVERYONE will try to race you... it does get annoying after a while, but what's even worse is if you dont race them, they will stick to you like flies to cowshit until you rocket away from them anyways just because you can. :D

I would never argue that the M3 is as fast as the other cars, but there is much more to owning and living with a car than 0-60 times or how fast a car goes round a track, which is the point of this comparison, and a lot of people (who probably have never owned a sports car) struggle to understand. This review is about the driving experience, the amount of fun and satisfaction that the car gives the driver, from IT"S OWN driving experience.
I think that you place to much onus on all the external factors, you want the gtr because people will think it's exclusive, you want the 911 because people will think your loaded, you want an m3 because... well it's not to impress anyone.

Even though its more rewarding when the driver does all the work, It's still proven that having computer aided handling helps get better lap times. I can't remember what year in formula one they banned these traction control aids, but they did because the ones that had them consistantly got better lap times. It was too much of an advantage.

GTR is better track car obviously. M3 is better car to leave with but slowest in this group. So numbers they give appear to be irrelevant to the conclusion. They need to specify what they really compare. I would go with m3 because it has back seats and I need them. Also after having bmw I just love them:)
