  • I have an ECM 260 and it doesnt even make espresso .. more like americano because its just like water its not creamy .. any tips on how to get a creamy espresso???

  • This machine is excellent, and makes coffee as good as the ones that cost hundreds. I spent $300 on a machine that was crap. The coffee maker in this video is amazing, and cream will be EXTRA thick on top of the espresso because it's pump driven. I used Starbucks Italian roast coffee beans that I ground with my Mr. Coffee grinder. This machine consistently makes the best espresso I've ever had. VALUE is what comes to mind with this pot.

  • not a bad crema for a cheap machine

  • Which grinder do you use with your ecmp50?

  • @bikhaab At the time I was having my coffee ground at Starbucks for me.

  • @jakeorch Thanks for the reply. Do oyu have any estimate how many days it remains fresh? I have heard like 7 8 days. Is this true? And which coffee beans have you tried on this machine?

  • @bikhaab No problem. I am not a big coffee expert, but 7-8 days sounds about right. I mainly used Starbucks Italian blend (some people might boo me for this but oh well), and I also tried their espresso roast... Both are quite dark. Tasty if you ask me! I haven'y used my machine in a while either so...

  • @bikhaab Nope just watch video here on Youtube named Pre-ground Coffee Aging Test by Seattle Coffee Gear. The thumb of rule is the number 15. Green coffee is good for 15 months. Roasted coffee for 15 days(best on day 3-15) and ground coffee is only good for 15 min. So always try to grind seconds before brewing.

  • i gave up, i bought a nespresso machine and use the capsules - no mess it works great. have fun.

  • which filter did you use for that shot?

  • I always use the larger of the two. The other one just seems too small.

  • nice glass, nice vid

any experience on how fine to grind the coffee?

  • Thanks :D

And nope. I have the coffee shop I get my coffee from grind it for me. I just tell them I want it ground for espresso.

    Good luck!

  • @polkapete Grain of salt would be good, and works even better when you pack it down tight in the filter. You can prob find a press at a local coffee shop or kitchen store.

  • I preheat both the cup used for the extraction and the cup used for drinking. Makes all the difference in the world on the final product. The ECMP50 is way ahead of their competition on both price and quality.

  • The Mr. Coffee pump espresso machine got great reviews at the Good Housekeeping web site. I like to see a triple layer in my cup of expresso but didn't notice because of the back ground reflections. The crema looks very nice though. I need to upgrade my steam machine to a pump model. I don't have much money to spend so I'm considering this machine based upon the number of good reviews. Might be one of the best for under a C-note. Thanks for the demo!

  • Yea unfortunately the cup has a lot of glares on it... At one point there is the black colored bottom, lighter color in middle, then the crema on top is light and foamy. The middle layer dissipates quickly though, leaving just that top crema layer.

This machine is excellent and I highly recommend it! Very worth the money! And thanks for the kind comment :)

  • I bought the emcp50. I was disappointed with the 1st several pulls. I got thin crema even with my Illy beans & burr mill that worsened with each pull. I blame the pf design (a 1 piece filter basket & pressure chamber w/ single drip hole). After several pulls foam & flow are reduced. Now I run a brew cycle with empty basket often. This purges silt & other gunk from the pressure basket. After experimenting with dose, tamp & polish the resulting crema is richer (like yours) w/ sweeter liquor too.

  • Yea it just takes some experimenting to get it just right. I will have to try out the empty basket for cleaning. Thanks :)

  • BTW, the crema in your video helped me decide to get the Mr. C. I think I made a good choice. The price was right. I Googled 'pressurized portafilters'/videos & saw many demos with good crema. The Saeco Aroma/Barista sold by S'bucks uses a pressurized pf too. One barista demonstrating it gave clear instructions to fill, level & only lightly tamp the grounds to allow the pressure chamber to aerate the flow. Some say the crema made by a ppf is fake but it's REAL to me and tastes good too. Thanks!

  • Fake crema? that's crazy! lol It's real. Tastes real too. :) Glad you're enjoying yours! Thanks for the bit about not too hard of a tamp. Will definitely give that a try next time.

  • That shot glass is gorgeous. I get by with an 8oz plastic measuring cup that I preheat before use.

  • Thank you :D Hey, whatever works right? As long as you get your espresso fix :D
