  • Imagine one of those, but like the same size as a proper wind turbine. They definetely wouldnt ruin the landscape, they look pretty cool when they spin. Is this your own original design?

  • @chunk, yes, i think that they can be an added value to a lanscape. It is my own original design and if you watch my later videos you see that i even made a 12 foot vawt from an airfoil.

  • Radical!! I like that.

  • Hey which one of your experiments is more efficient as far as torque and output is concern, the savonius design or the lenz

  • @POMPAYPEE i see that the lenz seam to be more effecient. i am hoping soon i will post a new one that i am working on with a group of great guys. it will use Airfoil.

    regards

  • @emagnets Great thanx bro, hope when you build it that you guys can specify the best angles and the design of the blade... peace

  • PVC pipe is the greatest,is it not? it's like one step below duct tape! or two steps above drywall screws......

  • that is true, i use it too often.

duck tape is the king of must fix now...lol

    thanks

    sam

  • Those are very elegant.

  • thanks Kimble, you should check out the rest of my vids.

  • excellent, really did enjoy this, great work and inspirational, thanx for posting 5***** ;-j

  • you welcome. please feel free to visit my site and see how i did it all...

  • good job... certainly worth all the effort. The actual turbine design is quite unique, i have not seen a VAWT like this before. I smiled as you were laughing at the main bolt working its way free ! All a work in progress. 10/10

  • thanks, it was funny seing the bolt unscrewing. i came up with the cigar shape for extra blade area and extra strong body.

i am always having fun building my projects.

    regards

  • Hey great vedio i like your ideas, hope you dont mind , i think i will try one also

  • go for it and call it V8-4"...

  • Those are nice looking. I like the contour. If you short out the amtek, will it stop the turbine or does it overpower the generator?

  • Sjh, hwen i shorted the ametek 38 it kept going arround 100 rpm with wind was arround 20 kmh. it is still cold for now but i will do another video for this info.

I created the countour for extra Blade area and Stability reasons and it was a winner for both. but since the snow came in i stoped for now. buy the way, Harvard university requested few of mine and i sent one so far for an ehxibit they have on march 30th.

    sjh, my turbine works,

  • your great wind turbines are very efficent

  • great work! looks cool :)

  • how much wind would it take to spin at about 600 rpm? would a 99vdc ametek work, assuming i can find one

  • it will strat spining at 3kmh wind, in order to get 450 rpm you need 30 to 35 kmh wind. these turbines are not meant to produce great power. 99vdc should work.

  • Love the design I think i'm going to build one. I'm going threw gathering the parts now. I have to pm you about your cut in the blad the instructables dosn't make sense. GREAT WORK your rock and a sense of humor.

  • great work, this one and the V10, i really like the design, my suggestion for a future design would be a single larger turbine and build your own generator, the ameteks eventually wear out.

  • do you have to give it a little push to get it started? i hear that can be a disadvantage of the vawt. i plan to build one myself using a car alternator to charge car batteries to power small household items. i think a vertical axis is much more simple to build just because you dont have to make the turbine assembly able to move to face the wind all the time

  • no, it will start spining in 5kmh wind. vawts have advantages but also hawt are more eeficient. i choose vawt because all i get is dirty and terbulant wind, for me the vawt is a best choice. that is why i designed my own style to work for my cretiria.

i do not recommend a car alternator because it require power to make power and that gets complicated with power on power off with wind to excite the rotor. so i recommend to buy a dc motor. the best ones are with high voltage and low rpm

  • so the best out there is modded car alternator with pm or ametek 99vdc or ametek 30vdc.

    hop this helps

note:if you guys like my vawt, please rate it.

    thanks

  • good deal,

but you have to set some rings to the top and the bottom of the turbines to make their ends bigger.

    regards.

  • thanks Alex, i see that you are heavy in alternative energy, and you do have great how to videos..

    regards

    faroun

  • LOL you know I made the post before I saw the end of the clip. Looks like a bearing came out on you at the top there and it wobbled more so when the wind picked up. Well, once you fix the top I hope it all remains intact well into the future for a while.

  • thanks, i have viewed youe Savonius and it looks good, i cant wait to see your new one witht he Custom generator.

all My plans i posted at instructables com

search for V8 Vawt and you will find it.

    regards

  • I see you designed these turbines neat I didn't read your post here correctly and shouldnt have sent you the message. Keep up the good work.

  • in half. I wound coils, have magnets and am going to attempt to make a home made generator on the bottom of the assembly. 16 magnets will rotate. anyway I like you turbine.

  • They look nice how you cut them and there is a nice scoop area for the wind to catch in, not too much wobble there. I am working on a savonius myself a new design over the old now a 12 gal blue drum cut
