  • WHY WOULD SOMEONE DISLIKE THIS

  • I am glad that Zach got the oppurtunnity to have him live his dream. In my town, my Down Syndrome brother that was 4 at the time got kick to the ground, and was called cat eyes. But I can see improvement now. He is now eight and everybody treats him equally. I am glad to say that my brother is my brother. I love you Nick. (: You are my pride and joy. (:

  • Glad to be frieds and a student of paul maier. Great man

  • Im from jasper

  • Everybody needs to work with special needs people for about a year. And see how they are really treated out in public. And how they are the first programs to get cut when your wonderful government say's 'I will not raise taxes.'So all of you who have a negative comment should be ashamed of yourselves.

  • Ok...I hate to rain on parades...or be the only negative person on this post...but Holy Crap.....They let him score the touchdown. I could see if the kid had some kind of ability to do so. What the coach is doing is treating him different because of his disability. If this young man was coherant of being treated differently then everyone else...I'm sure he wouldn't approve.

Moral to the story. It's all about equality.

  • @ceelife There is no such thing as equality life is never equal for any one. For example you have the advantage of simply a normal life over Zach why is that fair. Why should you be treated so special? Why do you deserve to not have down syndrome over him? Gosh someone should fix that! You know to make you equal.

  • @MsTubax Like I said..if anything they're turning him into a sideshow. Why can't he be treated equal to all the rest of the kids? Give em his moment give him his chance to shine. What if he turned out to be a "Water Boy" and he just needed some encouragement. Letting him run down the field to score a touchdown cause you let him isn't giving him a chance to shine it's treating him like he's less of a human being. "Why can't you have down syndrome." Clearly you have a chip on your shoulder.

  • @ceelife How is making a specific event just for Zach treating him like he is less of a human being? There is no malice in this gesture. And the "why can't you have down syndrome" was just stating that life is NOT fair I don't have a chip on my shoulder. I just wished you would see a different view on this, it is not a bad thing. Look I really not looking for an argument and I am sorry that I we disagree. I understand you, but my view is if it can make someones life a little better why not?

  • @ceelife The football team was just trying to give Zach his own special moment you know like the things you can easily have at every opportunity because you don't have a learning disability. And yes you are raining on a wonderful parade.

  • thats amazing. props to the coach.

  • that's really nice

  • Its so Heartwarming.. My mom almost cried

  • It's things like this that make me a proud Jasper High School junior :)

  • his coach dud the right thing to do and that it to give everybody a chance

  • Makes me proud to be from MV. Amazing! So glad Zach had his dream fulfilled!!! :) :)

  • Too cool

    Big hearts

  • Oh my gosh that is the best thing I have ever seen! Coach Paul Maier showed great sportsmanship by letting him score that touch down!!! Way to go both Jasper and Mount Vernon!!!

  • the couch for MtVernon should be couch of the year for allowing the opposing team to score a touch down and show true sportsmenship way to go Couch Pail Meier for the rest of the story go the WFIE14 evansville

  • the couch for MtVernon should be couch of the year for allowing the opposing team to score a touch down and show true sportsmenship way to go Couch Pail Meier

  • This is totally what life is all about!

  • awesome

  • Aww!! Thats the best vid i have seen in a long time!! :) Loved it!!

  • What's best is that the league didn't demand that they let this kid run a TD. Instead, the opposing coach offered it! That's the difference between a mandate and charity.

  • There is hope for us after all

  • This touched my heart! When you look closely enough to the "real people" we realize that this truly is a wonderful world!! What a wonderful lesson for all those young men to learn and I'm sure will make a difference in their lives as they go forward.

  • Now THAT is what team sports should be. I'm all for keeping score and playing a good game but ultimately, it's about doing your best and learning to demonstrate respect for others. And, if every now and then, a player can fulfill a dream with a little help then those students have learned that life is not about winning but about being about "playing well with others".

  • I graduated from JHS 35 yrs. ago an this is the most beautiful est thing I've ever seen any coach do for another team. He is a hero in my eyes. Keep up the good work Zack!!!

  • Thank You

  • Even tho i go to Gibson Southern its pretty cool to see the two teams we play would do that for him. Way to go guys.

  • That's my friends cousin

  • I go to Mt. Vernon and Paul is pretty awsome

  • This is just an amazing story!

  • I cried! It's a wondeful story!! Everything is perfect! Congrats to Zach!

  • I love it. Cried and cried. All those football players work so hard all season, training and practicing. Zach worked hard and the coach saw that. Love it love it love it!

  • I was lucky to get to work with Zach when him and i were Wrestling Managers during my sophmore year, he was a freshman at the time. He was a great kid to work with and be around, and he still is today. Great job Zach! I'm proud of you!

  • Way to go Zach!!! Way to go Mt. Vernon and Jasper football teams! Sportsmanship at its finest!

  • This is great

    REAL sportsmanship for once!

Good job everyone from Mt. Vernon and Jasper!

  • Men of character, generosity, kindness, and teachers of young men more than just football....these coaches deserve to be lifted up and admired. We need more of this, in our schools, homes, and at work.

Kudos to the Mt. Vernon and Jasper teams. This night, regardless of the score, everyone won, even the fans in the stands.

  • That was a very honorable thing to do, well played!

  • AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! Great job Zach!!

Why can't there be more stuff like this posted?

  • @archeryfiend I was just thinking that myself!! It's awesome to have such sportsmanship in high school football :)

  • Great touchdown Zach!!! Congrats!!! Glad to see such sportsmanship all the way around, especially from M.V. to one of our "biggest rivals"! ( I just wish Jasper had had the same sportsmanship last night at the Jr. varsity game at Jasper. They do not have any freshman on their J.V. team and ours is mostly frosh because we don't have a frosh team.Yelling "don't hurt the Kindergardner!" about a certain member of our team was rude and very unsportsmanlike!) Proud to be a mother and alumni from M.V.!

  • What a great story. Makes me proud to be an alum of Mt.Vernon and former football Wildcat. Great to see to sportsmanship and caring among the Mt. Vernon coaching staff and players. And to Zack, what a focused and determined young man. I can imagine, with his determination, this TD is just the first of many greats things Zack will accomplsih in his life.

  • It's all about inclusion in school, sports, and community! Glad to see my hometown doing this! Things have come a long way since I was in school! My daughter has Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome and she is included across the board with her peers, family, and Madison, WI! Go Zach and the Wildcats! Great job!

  • i live just south of that and my science teacher told me about this. AWESOME ZACH!!!

  • The video brought tears to my eyes! What a great story. Hats off to Mt Vernon for showing compassion and a true sense of spirit!! Zach will remember that moment for the rest of his life! Both teams have a GREAT group of players, coaches & fans!! Also have to mention how awesome Zach's teammates are for assisting him have a fantastic, memorable year!! Talk about sportsmanship all around....

  • Great story!

  • So proud of Jasper and Mt. Vernon for showing us that there are good people in the world. Congratulations Zach on your touchdown!

  • Zach, good touchdown! no matter who says what, your the heart and soul of this jasper team

  • This brought tears to my eyes! Awesome, thank you so much for sharing.

  • I watched this last night there was 1876 views. I'm watching this at 9:08 am and it says 5278 views. In a world that seems to be only Focused on me, myself, and I. We can still find that some still have a heart of Gold. Not only the viewers but Mr Logan Musgrave (outstanding) to put yourself second that's a Hero. To coaches and players "Great" to Mr Beckman (you rock). To Zach's Parents thanks for not holding Zach back as is the case with so many Parents and their Down Syndrome kids.

  • Logan Musgrave is all class! Too many times nowadays we hear about or see with our own eyes the disrespect or bullying of those less fortunate than us. Especially by athletes. Mr Musgrave has my vote for man of the year. Mr Beckman has my vote for player of the year. Together they are outstanding examples of sportsmanship, dedication and the spirit of the game of football.

  • This is so neat, thanks for putting it up on here. I kept hearing about it and really wanted to see this...so cool!

  • This is pretty cool. Go Jasper

  • You should start him against Reitz

  • Crying like crazy...I love this video. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • Sitting here with tears running down my face!

  • I have been truly touched by this... It proves sports teach good citizenship. Share this with everyone you know... lets get it to go viral.

  • @rhildenbrand2 that would be original

  • the only thing bad is when washington went to mt vernon and played them we were treated like crap from their fans and players

  • this is the best

  • What a great story! Very classy move by Coach Maier and the MV players.

  • It's a wonderful display of sportsmanship! This is a true testament of God's work through the coaches, and of course, Zach. God Bless!

  • Big-time props to everybody involved.

  • One great kid, two great coaches..

    WAY TO GO ZACH...

  • Very kind of MV. Looks like Jasper had no problem running the score up though. Someone should do a documentary on Jasper...they are like robots trained to win everything.

  • @cdub9416 HECK YES WE ARE!!! jasper rocks

  • Nice run #2, you got some wheels bro! Keep working hard and good luck in the playoffs!

  • Thank you for posting this. We all have our high school rivalries, but this puts the people aspect back into perspective. We are all one family living on this planet and this is a beautiful example of humanity and sportsmanship. God bless everyone involved in this. Wonderful.

  • I go to school with Zach and am so proud of his dedication and grateful for the kind hearts of the Mount Vernon football team and Head Coach Maier! I'm sure this is something our school won't ever forget. Go ZMAN!

  • I would also like to thank Coach Paul Maier you made Zach s Dream TRULY COME TRUE THANK YOU GOD BLESS YOU!!!!!!

  • I had a moment like this when I coached 8th grade basketball. To this day when I ask my players what their favorite memory was of our 4 years together was, they all look to the moment when the basket went in for a wonderful student who was at every practice and game.

I know that this moment will be the same for the students of Mt Vernon High School! Way to teach true sportsmanship, Coach Maier!

  • My compliments to head coach Paul Maier and his Mount Vernon football team for making Zach's dream come true! It's so nice to know that there are still so many wonderful people out there!!!

  • This is what it's all about! Making dreams come true! Koodos to Coach Paul Maier and head coach of Jasper and both teams involved!

  • Jasper is one of our biggest rivals, but I give them and Mount Vernon HUGE KUDOS for this!!

  • What class by all involved in that!

  • Wow...this was so awesome! Thanks to the MV coaches and team...you are all heros in my book. Congrats to Zach - you are an inspiration to the world, my friend.

  • Zach, Kellyn loved watching this. Fabulous play!

  • Also, congrats to the kid ^_^ It warms my heart to see that happen.

  • Which team won the game?

  • @CntrySngr72 Simply a curiosity question. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

  • @Victorinox667 it was jasper

  • @MrWafflebeater Thank you =) And congrats to the kid ^_^

  • @Victorinox667 Sorry - didn't mean that to sound as offensive as it was. Was simply trying to point out that the sportsmanship of the coaches, teams, etc. to do this was what was important. I'm a Jasper fan - so I'm glad they won - but didn't think it was important in this aspect. Apologies for seeming brash.

  • @CntrySngr72 No hard feelings. It warms my heart to see these guys working together to fulfill this kid's dream. It really does. I was just curious as to who won.

  • Way To Go ZMan !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So awesome!

  • Precious story. Zach, you make Jasper very proud as do all your teammates and coaches. GO CATS!!!!

  • nice job ZMAN!!!!!!

  • Way to go Zach, great job. Hats off to both coaches and to both great cities. We can all learn a great lesson here. When we help one another there are no losers. Good luck to both schools in the playoffs. We have all won thanks to Zach.
