Whoever was there first would have immigrated to North America millions of years back, when the only means of transport would most likely have been wooden boats of some form, maybe canoes. Asians (soon to be Indians) could have crossed it in those. In contrast how could Europeans have crossed the Atlantic Ocean to America? not even knowing if such a land existed. So what you're trying to say is that they crossed an Ocean?
