  • they sound pretty tight...and loose in all the right spots. never heard this. thanks for uploading

  • Ginger dropped the ball. When Dave asked, "And what kind of folks come to the shows?", he should have said, "Pressed Rat and Warthog"!

  • I thought Jack and Bruce didn't get along..

  • @TennGuy546 jack and ginger had their difference dating back to time they were with Graham Bond band in early 60's playing jazz, but they put it behind them when they joined eric in Cream, and they always were clsoe friends, a lot of the talk about them was overblown

  • @TennGuy546 they were constantly fighting over his middle name

  • i cant imagine the pressure that lead guitarist must feel, having yo essentially be Eric Clapton for his two old bandmates.

  • Clint Eastwood on drums!

  • no wonder this was left off disraeli gears. I love Cream, but there are plenty of bruce creations that shine, and some like this that are pretty bad lyriclly lol. The music is great, just the words make absolutely no sense lmao.

  • Jack and Ginger... what a team. Letterman as most people know, knows zippo about music and he always appears as an absolute doofus.

  • Bruce & Baker are great - Letterman is putz and a terrible interiewer.

  • jeez....what a creepy looking old geezer

...I'm talking about Paul Shaffer, of course

  • maybe the best bass player in rock

  • @TheIrishlad12 - Well, along with Sir Paul, of course...

  • In1960 I was 16 years old and Ginger Baker played at my college. We had a "moment" together and it has taken me long time to get over it. We did not complain in those days.

  • jack is as funky as ever

  • Ha, I love how Jack Bruce actually brings his bass to the interview section of the show. Most people would've handed it over to a technician or something, but not Bruce!! :-)

  • Ginger Baker is Beautiful.

Meet him & you'll never call him ugly again!!

  • And in my estimation, Mitch was far superior and had kind of a Elvin Jones thing happenin' that My "gut instinct" tells me Ginger couldn't do. It's quite sad actually to see one of your heroes put down another one of your heroes out of jealousy. The video of Ginger talking about Mitch Mitchell is on one of those Cream docs, don't ask me which one; just sit through all 8 hrs. or so, and u will find it! L.O.L.

  • here`s an idea for a band: Ginger Baker, Keith Richards, Flea and Lou Reed. We may call it, Sub Stances

  • @lifedeathexpert I was shocked recently to find out that Jack could be included on your hard drug users list. I think he kick around 81 or something. He was actually the most talented of the three, but his material was a bit eclectic and he doesn't sing thru a strat and amp, like clapton, if u get my drift. He was and is the genius though. I suppose the other two were as well, although I've heard Ginger talk shit about Hendrix's drummer, Mitch Mitchell.

  • @TheArbiter74 wow imagine that ..a rock n roll junkie..yup ..thats A REAL STRETCH...QUACK!!!..DUMMY UP MAN

  • @baliscotsurf You shouldn't talk about yourself that way. The first step is to not think of yourself as a "Dummy Up", or "Fuck Up", whichever you prefer. I'm also guessing here that you accidentally stumbled upon this video and you really meant to view a documentary on ducks. Cheers!

  • Paul has played with a gang of people!

  • I was surprised to see that Ginger Baker is still alive...I saw him in Hawaii in the late 60's and he was already looking like a zombie. Wait a minute, when was this show taped? I'm writing this in 2011...is Ginger Baker still alive??

  • I was surprised to see that Ginger Baker is still alive...I saw him in Hawaii in the late 60's, and he looked like a zombie, then. Glad he is....

  • Ginger Baker looks likes a serial killer/sexual offender/Rapist XD but still the king of drums :D

  • I met and talked with Ginger when he was playing with Hawkwind. He looks creepy, on that I'll agree, but he is a really nice, personable guy who took plenty of time out to talk to a bunch of starstruck fans. Bought a round of beers for us too!.

  • At 4:50 I think I would never ever be able to uphold his look straight into the eyes, unless having a gun ready to fire in my hand, as a defense I mean... sometimes Ginger looks totally insane...and sounds too

Maybe that's why he's an absolute hero behind drums

  • Watch it with that smart mouth there, Dave. These guys are GODS.

  • One of the GREATEST drummers EVERRR, as well as one of the GREATEST bassists EVERRR!!!!! :D

  • It's amazing to see Jack and Ginger paling around like this. They used to HATE each other on stage in two different bands! Here, they were having a blast! Two incredible talents. One of the best bassists and one of the best drummers! Thanks for posting!

  • @sounddude51 As much as i hate to say it, i think Jack and Ginger still hate each other. Ginger's comments after the reunion basically said that "the same problems are still there." which is a shame. I wish they'd get over it and appreciate how lucky they all are to be alive. bury the hatchet and make music. Grudges are something, man.

  • @hammerofmariotos If Ginger Baker tells you he's going to bury the hatchet...RUN!!!

  • I wonder how Paul and the band feels now that they have to play with half-musicians and not the likes of those from Bruces' era. Sad for Paul, the band, and us. But we have Youtube and our recordings. Peace!

  • I met Ginger Baker when I was 16. He had a drum clinic at a local music store and I stopped by for bass strings. I heard this incredible noise that sounded like a marching band falling down a flight of stairs. Thank God that crap ended and as I'm standing in line this old guy with a Sherlock Holmes pipe and a diamond earring the size of an Elephants testicle says "I'm Ginger Baker". Good for you! I need a set of Rotosound bass strings! If I had only known who he was.

  • @davec629 That's a funny GB story Apparently at one point he was living here in the Denver metro area raising pygmy horses or something and had illegal housekeepers working at his home and immigration came round arrested her and booted him out of the good ole USA !

    Isn't that something !

  • except for ginger's amazing chops, that song was incredibly cheesy and gay. Sounded like the 80's just farted in my ear. Ginger is one sexy lookin man, though

  • Anton the guitarist has that guilty look...."Uhhhh, please don't shoot the messenger folks. I swear I saw him in the hall earlier." And will someone look up Ginger Baker already om Meagan's list? Holy smokes.

  • THE GREATEST DRUMMER ALL TIME

  • 4 letter word for something is missing , first letter "E"

  • The GREATEST DRUMMER ALL time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Did Paul Shaffer resurrect that organ from 'Magic Carpet Ride' by Steppenwolf?

  • Now THAT'S a groove!!

  • Always nice to see 2/3's of creme doing what they do best. Rock on!!!

  • He was always creepy looking and looked older than his age.

  • if it wasn't for baker's drumming this song would of sucked ass!

  • who's that bullshit guitar player? hahaha

  • @dadaniniel That's Sid McGinnis from the Late Show band dumbass...he can play circles around Clapton...no offense to Eric, it's just a fact

  • @EndlessNot1 That's right... and what's more: he can play circles around Dave Gilmour too... it's a fact... most folks can! Feel offended if you wish to!

  • @1ndi64 the infamous Swiss stalker is back with more Anti-Gilmour drivel..sorry Windy, i'm not offended...

  • @E:Sid's got chops for more styles than EC. That's his job: Play what he's told to, & he does it well. But music's judged by how it affects listeners. Sid's best : "He's really good/He knows a lot/He can have the gig",etc. EC's best went straight to the heart, astounded the world, changed how guitar's played. By the time Cream's 2nd LP "Disraeli Gears" was released, 100,000 guys were trying to play like EC. Sid was one of them. If there'd never been EC, Sid'd be playing accordion, quite well.

  • Ginger lived in Larciano Italy, for a long while. My Family is from the area and we would see him in town all the time. When I was older I saw him at the modern drummer fest, in nj , and got an autograph from him ,and asked him in Italian if he still lived in larciano. He stood up and said " Yeah why?" real defensively. I think he still has the house ther till this day. He will always be one of my favorite drummers. I loved the hi hat click on the upbeat throughout the song.

  • @bischerosti interessante!!!

perche' non mi hai chiamato a quei tempi???:-))))

  • @bischerosti well if someone you did not know came up to you and said do you still live in larciano italy , you might be a bit weireded out and be defensive , unless you knew him personally

  • where is Clapton

  • @Strat0Blues he left cream 23 yers before this video XD

  • Racer: Thanks for the message. I enjoyed the vids with Kofi playing with his dad, too. I wonder if Ginger and his wife (forget her name, sorry) are still involved sending gifts to kids in hospitals. I love Ginger, he was always so down to earth. Did his job and did it well, never showed big ego. Thanks again.

  • 3 legged

  • Gingers drums sound terrible, that shitty no balls 80's/90's sound. ginger sounded best in 1970. Not his fault everyone was plagued.

  • What a tight band, Baker's drumming is perfect. Who cares what he looks like? You should see his HANDSOME SON...a great drummer like his dad. He plays like FREIGHT TRAIN. Jack looks so happy.

  • @karenofbethany Kofi is a great friend and a great drummer, that's for sure. Just talked to him a few minutes ago.

  • @karenofbethany Kofi is great too!

  • @karenofbethany hi looks like a drummer

  • @karenofbethany Who are you, Kofi's girlfriend !!! LOL. I'll tell him you like him. hahaha

  • Jack playing a funk bassline?WTH!

  • damm, ginger baker is a tight player, and jack bruce is truly great, nice to see them on lettermen

  • the never forgotten

  • TWO LEGGED PEOPLE!!! HEHE!!!

  • Amazing! Just found out Ginger Baker is still alive!! I'm not being a smart ass, I'd honestly heard or read that he had died years ago! Great he's still out and about!

  • @JoeSzilagy Yeah their was a rumour going around he had died in 1998 from lung cancer

  • christ this is poor

  • best two some ever

  • Old guys can rock? Yeah boi

    Wheres Clapton?

  • Baker... Bruce... Phenomenal

  • Ginger always hated that Jack (and Eric) played too loud!

  • BADASSSSSSSSS

  • I saw Cream at MSQ in '68 (9th row from the stage) and have seen Jack and Ginger several times since. As far as hatred between them, I doubt it. They just fight a lot. Musical differences. As to the more recent Reunion at MSQ and RAH, I saw the video and was saddened. Jack had a liver transplant a few years and is clearly not well. Ginger's drumming was really off. Clapton, I will admit, was great.

  • For some reason I thought that I heard that Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker hated each other... or was that a "phase" thing?

  • @JF0urnier No you're right. There's a two hour plus Cream documentary on instant play on Netflix. Ginger Baker has venom for Jack and I think its somewhat unfounded. I love Ginger too. The main thing is all 3 of those fools did the Albert Hall in London and Madison Square Garden in New York a few years ago and EVERYONE said it was like 69' again. If Ginger's body wasn't all busted up and if he didn't find Jack Bruce so annoying they might have toured! Big IFs! lol !!

  • Ginger bakers style has never been copied or done as well.

  • Amazing the Letterman show has exactly the same set up 20 years later. And if you think Ginger was weird then, take a look at him now

  • I don't think the guitar playing fit... at all

  • the jazz ness dosnt work for me . Bring on eric i say!!

  • ive got this song on the cream album "those were the days"

  • and the reunion finally happened 15 years later

  • Gingers Baker has a skill so unique! He plays as no one else....

  • nah, he is a massive douche...he is still around cause he is in with the ruling elite...

  • definitivo cream no era nada sin clapton, ese guitarraponcho que pusieron ahi 0 feeling con los demas. Ginger Baker sobrenatural.

  • (Baker was in Blind Faith.) Eric, -wanted- to be set free from the 'guitar hero' thing. It wasn't the career he wanted; he desired to be thought of as a singer-songwriter. In the end, he's right -&- wrong: Right because there are always young guns to take it up a notch, not a game for middle-aged players ...right because hot lead guitar has become common...right as proved by continued success while younger players come & go... but wrong because we -still -want him to be a guitar hero.

  • I like the way Baker begins to jump up when the Letterman band starts "Crossroads". It looks like he think he's late to the gig.

  • Hahaha good catch...lol

  • Seeing him look this old in 1990 makes me amazed by the fact that this dude is still alive.

  • He looked like this when he was 27, altho hidden a bit by long hair & more beard. He's 51 on this video, & looks 70, but he's 71 now, & is beginning to look good for his age.

  • wow. I can't believe they agreed to play together. Those guys had bad blood since before cream to the reunion.

  • Question of time is a great Album.

Jimmy Rip plays a lot of guitar on that, and I think he might be playing here as well. The video quality isn't good enough to be certain.

  • This is a brilliant song. Jack and Ginger are both amazing on there instruments and the whole thing works really well. Gr8 stuff lads,

  • Those two rock no matter what they play,,,cool tune,,,masters both.

  • Ginger Baker has got to be the creepiest looking sonofabitch ever in this video

  • @iluvincitingviolence

He was excellent in The Elephant man though.

  • @iluvincitingviolence yeah, he looks like a dead David Letteman

  • @iluvincitingviolence Not just in this video!!!

  • @iluvincitingviolence Yea he always had a chisled look.

  • @iluvincitingviolence Well he's pretty old, what do you expect? None of those guys from his era aged well.

  • Where's Eric?

  • @clarkewi This is from 1990, so I think Jack and Ginger heard Journeyman and decided not to invite him.

  • badass.

  • lol ginger baker is the most badass old man in the world dude..when he plays the drums its like hes doing it begrudgingly or sumthing...like its a chore which hes more than adept at

  • I saw Ginger Baker play at Harpo's in Detroit around 1985. He spit a burning cigarette into the air, and nailed it with a drumstick.

  • I like this, Ginger is a monster on drums! the guitar player I think is Sid McGinnis.

  • Interesting did not know that. Thanks for that info

  • Comment removed

  • How shallow.

  • what do you mean ? hopefully the interview, cause how could you not like the music?

  • please who is the guitar player? is the guitar player by faith no more.. jon hudson?

  • I think it is the regular Letterman / Paul Shaffer CBS Orchestra guitar player Sid McGinnis. He has played with so many different musicians.

  • wow! i never knew they did an album together! i thought they couldnt stand being in the same room together...

  • sensational performance! i'll start watching Dave just in case I catch something remotely as amazing as this.

  • Yeah, I keep watching Letterman JUST to make sure I won't miss another certifiable nut case like Juaquin Phoenix!!! ; D

  • HaHa. Back in 1990 they used to show the record. You can only find those things in Attics and Antique stores anymore

  • Did you notice just how careful jack was with his bass?

Even with all his money (lets face it he doesn't pay for them) a true love affair with the instrument...

  • gotta love your own instrument

  • I thought he moved to Italy ,because he got tired of people ....he didnt like any !? even the two legged kind !? thats alot of meth,, I like him ,.I would problay piss `em off first,.,not as much meth,

  • its funny 2 c Ginger play like this bc when i play African music, i dont use the hi hat

  • Forty years down the road and Gingers STILL got it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He looks even more like a scary movie villain though.

  • Jack always plays this way, he plays like a lead guitar, he is the most amazing jazz bass player!

  • Also according to Ginger on "later with jools holland" the publishers chose the book title and there will never be a cream reunion as far as he's concerned

  • Toscana... in Italia ;-)

  • After many, many years of waiting I hear that Ginger Baker's autobiography has finally been released :)

    It's called "Hellraiser".

  • SAHBfan, and also a Ginger fan? Class!

  • yeeah. i got that one too! and it's really enjoying to read. uhm bad english i think. doesn't matter... :P

  • was that a cream reference when he was singing im so sad?

  • thats one loud ass bass

  • Yes, of course. It's always a loud bass whenever it's been Jack Bruce playing one. ;)

  • Gingers playing the Jazz Cafe London Nov the 4th 2009

  • Ginger Baker is the best drummer ever, if you don't believe me, ask him!!! I like the stuborn old sob though

  • Ginger Baker is a true original. Love the fake teeth (in Cream, if you look closely, he did not have much going on with his teeth). Read a recent Rolling Stone magazine for an update on him and what he is doing. Great reading. He is kind of a nut....

  • yeah i read that too, hes just a bitter old world weary man, but if u did read it toward the end he does have a soft side too. He HATES Jack by the way

  • Yeah, he is a bit crazy no doubt about it. His new book is one long rant. He seems to piss off everyone wherever he lives and then ends up fleeing. Still, a great drummer and legendary rock character.

  • Look, I am going to settle this ongoing debate about whether Eric Clapton is or was great. From 1966 through Cream he was outstanding - innovative, fast, and genius. But after that, he has been left behind by a couple of hundred better guitarists. But, we pay homage to him for what he was. Five thousand guitarists today can play like he did in Cream. It's all a matter of context.

  • yea and five thousand guitarist sound like crap most of the time, clapton souns good consistantly most of the time, he,s the best all around guitarist, just my opinion , the clapton critics never end, your just another one, dont bother answering , i know what its gonna be, peace

  • But it was him in Cream, not them. It was him on those Beatles songs, not them. It was him in Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominos, His solo shit. All the other stuff I didnt mention, not them! And those 200 have been left behind by 2000 more its the heart and soul that gets reduced each time the technique grows. Hes a fucking living legend that has gone trough Hell and back several times and paid his dues over and over. Show some respect!

  • I'm shocked that baker And bruce got together for this. I thought they hated each other.

  • Well you have to look at it this way. Music is a business like any other. There are people in my business that simply disgust me and I disgust them but when it comes to making money you look the other way and deal with it. Ginger and Bruce were struggling financially at the time. They may hate each other but they are not stupid, they are business men making a living that's all. :)

  • Yup, also Ginger did the Bruce, Baker and Moore for complete financial reasons (to fund his polo club interests). He couldn't stand being in a band with Jack and he didn't think much of Moore. Still, he went through it because it was a payday. Both Jack and Ginger realized that the two of them together on stage was a natural draw and would bring in more money. It is a business.

  • That was rad. I had forgotten how great Ginger Baker really is.

  • Wihout clapton , the spirit is gone, G.

  • Letterman is such a douche.I never liked the guy & I cud never understand his success but i guess that i am in the minority.

  • No, I always thought he was a douche--it would help if he could at least PRETEND he was interested in his guests. And these two were interesting guests--if if they do hate each other's guts.

  • @moco635 LOL ur right me neither

  • @moco635 he just has a dry and self-deprecating humor, some people think he's talented and some people just don't like his style, it's a matter of opinion.

  • @moco635 I totally agree about Letterman. He's a nerd and he's not funny at all.

  • @moco635 Your statement is completely irrelevent here.

  • i found it hard to find a beat or rhythm I liked in this song

anyone who thinks that guitarist is near clapton is dead wrong

much respect for ginger baker and jack bruce but this song was not for me

and wow letterman did terrible interviews back then, no wonder Letterman got like half what Leno did

  • The genius of shaffer is that he can play anything, at any time, anywhere. Though not original, he is amazing.... the downbeat drops and he's got you covered.

Clapton.....replaceable. Skipped out on the yardbirds because he knew jimmy page was comin' in fast.

  • Lol, retarded. That's like saying SRV was replaceable.

  • haha. "Sounds just like Cream." Wow. That was sarcasm, right? It's not a bad piece, but please. The notion that Eric Clapton is "easily replaceable" is silly. This guitarist is fine, but he's not even remotely Clapton.

On a separate matter, am I the only that hates Paul Shaffer having to "sit in" with every freakin band on Letterman?

  • percition drums

  • the guitarist is crap!

  • The guitar player plays clear and articulate solo phrases. Maybe you should lighten up.

  • Ginger Baker... Great Drummer... Jack Bruce... Fantastic Bassist... Eric Clapton... Phenomenal Guitarist... Put all three together and you get too much awesome... This is why Cream was such a great band!

  • Great song. Sounds just like Cream.

  • Wow...Letterman looks so young here!

  • Hey iheard that Bruce said Led-Zepp, was pile of shit somewhere....

  • yeah it was someone from cream, i think it was bruce but im not sure. I read it in some article but I cant remember where the article was from.

  • now i understand, gee, its really hard for them to let you choose between two legendairy rock bands like that, you know..

  • it was Bruce, but he was just joking around. a lot of people took it the wrong way and he got lots of shit for it. undeserved shit, if you ask me.

  • oh ok, i dint know that sorry, but thanks anyway man.

  • There are drummers who have more technical chops than Ginger, but there are none cooler. Even the way he sets his kit up -

  • You guys have to read the new Rolling Stones. There is an interview with Ginger Baker. He's not doing good at all. He's on a morphine inhaler, a bunch of pain pills, not to mention he smokes 3 packs a day, but he still drums out and rides horses:3 He's insane and he's a crazy hermit, but after you read the article, you can tell he has a good heart...it's sad he's almost gone, and Jack Bruce contacted him recently to try to get another Cream concert up again:P He said hell no.

  • article was amazing....

  • Absolutely! I'm not so much in to the new music coming out, but I can't get enough of the interviews and old black and white pictures. I just wish Rolling Stone kept the original size I remember as a kid. When I first held them, it felt larger than life...

  • I read last night. And after watching this, I can see the tension b/t them.Love it when Ginger says "every inst. is difficult for 'em" -and Jack gives him that look. The interview in RS was a good one.But lets be honest,GB has been a total drug addict for 3/4's of his life, its bound to affect your brain enormously.Personally, I think he's cursed in a supernatural sense.I mean it all seems like a terribly long acct. of "bad luck" --- thats no COINCIDENCE my friend.....

  • I thought both guys hated each others guts, it was on Clapton's memoir. Both guys , Bruce & Baker both got into arguements all the time they were in Cream.
