IM GOING TO MAKE THIS VERY CLEAR...WE HAVE THE SAME SPIRIT THE APOSTLES HAD IN JESUS DAY(HOLY GHOST)SIGNS AND WONDERS SHALL FOLLOW THE BELIEVERS...THERE NOT DOING THE HEALING....THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THREW THEM...IF YOU HAVE THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN YOU, YOU CAN CAST OUT DEVILS,HEAL THE SICK,SPEAK IN A NEW TONGUE...YOU NEED TO GO IN PRAYER...IM NOT SAYING IT IN A MEAN WAY IM SPEAKING IT IN TRUTH AND LOVE
drajmj1234 well what is the truth? please read & explain 1 corithians 13:10 when the bible says when that which is perfect has come then all the gifts that are in part will be done away with!! is the bible perfect to you? was the bible completed around a.d 95 - 100?
"For those who are puffed up with learning prejudiced this truth by their own lives and by their empty words. They said this truth was falsehood and they cruelly persecuted, as if they were blind, those who were really walking in the truth in holy humility." Saint Francis of Assisi
This guy is simply a cessationist who uses word-play to explain away the gifts of the Spirit. And silly people believe him because he has such a nice voice and accent. He's a fool.
1 Corinthians 12:9 clearly states that there is gifts of healings. One has to determine if the New Testament ended when Christ and the disciples died or were taken up into a cloud. The New Testament clearly says these promises are to you and to all those that are afar off. That's us! These gifts ARE for us today. This gentleman thinks he is wise, but has totally missed the truth
I WAS A CATHOLIC AND I GOT HEAL OF GLAUGOMA DURING A WORSHIP IN A PENTECOSTAL CHURCH. YOU ARE A LIAR!!!!!!!!!!!!! TONGUES IS FOR TODAY.
FOLKS THE THIEF CAME TO STEAL KILL AND DESTROY. GOD HAS NEVER CHANGE HE IS THE SAME TODAY YESTERDAY AND FOREVER!!! READ FOR YOURSELF THE BIBLE DON'T TRUST THE WOLF HE LIE!!!!
those who have the so called " healing" to day is juz lik those prophets of baal during da days of Elijah~~ ned to cry loudly ned to shout lik almost dead for healing to the scik~~ and end up by asking:' how many percent u gt healed from God?" of course for those who dont want to hurt those healer's feeling will answer :" er... 10 perhaps" den everyone said praise the Lord~~~ what a bunch of foolish people~~~~~hahahaha sonds funny right everyone?? hahahaha~~~ is dat wt we named it gift? hahaha
All bible believing christians who know the truth need to get this guy off the air and pray that God will reveal the truth to Dr. Cairns and that Dr. Cairns repent of this blasphamey
You know what's interesting- someone's wrong here. on one hand you have a Dr. who probably loves God as much if not more as everyone on this post obviously does. He's saying one thing, and others say another thing. Same Bible, same God- Everyone is using their experience/lack of experience to explain the same passage- someone is putting their experience, thoughts or feelings above God's Word- which is the same thing Satan did pretty much. Remember to keep your speech to build each other up.
People please DO NOT believe this idiot, he is not a man of God and he's twisting God's Word. He's trying to fill your mind with confusion and that is from the devil not from God. God is not the author of confusion.
I dont know what this means .. but im looking for an answer .. im not quite sure what God meant .. but none of my family know what God told me .. either does my dads friend that is physhic .. I have no reason why that im not telling them .. I just cant .....
God told me this to when I went to church one day and my mother Vanessa told me I should to somekind of thing that I forgot what it was, but they put oil on my head, and holded my back and my head .. and they prayed .. then all of a sudden I collapse and I couldnt stay up .. and they put a blanket on me .. and I heard a voice saying that he has plans for me in the future .. and I cried and my parents told me why I was crying .. I didint reply back .. and im looking to see what im doing.
I have a great gift that my dad told me about .. and I think it's healing .. im not quite sure yet .. I really dont believe in God but inside me tells me that I should .. my dad told me that I have a great gift from God and when he tells me he starts to cry .. and i ask him what is my gift .. he will reply saying that I will have a gift of helping people in the future .. but something tells me something is going to happen, and God told me this to ~
my dad told me since I was a kid that I have a great gift from God .. and that I will help people in the future .. and he still tells me it and after he always tells me he starts to cry .. he still tells me that and I ask him what is my gift .. and he told me something that will help people .. and I know he knows this because he has a good friend that is physhic and he told him alot of stuff .. and for me .. havent figured what my gift is .. but soon will know (:

What a crock - i've been healed some of my friends have been healed and a few of them have seen healings like BROKEN ARMS *instantly* healed only a week after being broken. If you're going to lie about Jesus keep it to yourself.
, and two weeks later he got from the doctor and told us that his tumors were shrinking. and a month later the were completly GONE!! He hasn't had a seizure in about three months or more.
I had an experience where the Lord told me to lay my hands on and pray for a friend of mines name Lajuan. He had a Tumor in his brain which was the cause of multiple seizures that he would have. It was at church during a time of prayer b4 the message was brought forth, and the Lord simply told me to pray for him, so I obeyed and told a very good frien of mine that we had to pray for him. And the way the Lord led us in our prayer was that the Lord would heal him from his tumors and seizures
there is a big differance between the everyday gift of healing such as had the apostles, and a modern day MIRACLE from God from an honest prayer of his believers. this is the number one biggest mistake that people make.
revelation 12:17 " and the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ." what is the testimony of Jesus Christ? it is the spirit of prophecy! (Rev. 19:10) so my question for you, wise guy, is if the dragon makes persecution war with the remnant of christians who have the spirit of prophecy, why do you aid satans cause in trying to kill the gifts?
If I want to learn more about working on cars, I'm going to go to a mechanic that has years of experience working on cars, not someone that has just read about and studied working on cars.
I don't know a lot about Dr. Cairns...but if I truly want to learn about healing and miracles, I'm going to listen to teaching from someone who is "doing the stuff," not someone who just talks about doing the stuff, or tries to explain why he or she is not doing the stuff or that the stuff doesn't exist.
1 Corin. 12:27-28 "Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of ministrations, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues."
John 14:12 "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father."
Love your accent. But you are in err on some of your points. You are playing with words. The gift of healing is a real gift, if not y would it b listed under the gifts of the Spirit. 1Cor:12:4-11. Remember and these things shall follow them that believe.................they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Now I would agree that many people misuse this gift. Or claim to have it and don't. U say that people do not have the miraculous gifts now. Well Jesus said, We will do ....
There are many false preachers dressed in wolves clothes, but one thing is true, "God is the same yesterday Today and forever" God does things according to his will, and he can move a mountain if he wants, because after all he is a living God. True sometimes he heals our sickness and sometimes he does not because everything goes according to his will. True some of those healers are bogus and lairs but let God be the one to judge them.
What? I read the verse after verse 12 and how do you get that this means we can heal too? I just have to ask? Are we God? Did God create us to be little gods? If you see verse 13, Jesus says "Whatever you ask in my name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son". Isn't Jesus Himself doing the healing of a person? He can heal if He wants to, but wouldn't be batterif He just brings us home to heaven?
If you would seriously like to learn how to heal the sick in Jesus' name please view my series entitled "Hell's Second Best Kept Series."
"Dr." Alan has a form of godliness, but denies the power thereof (2 Timothy 3:5). He's in danger of the judgment to come unless he repents of his doctrines of man.
@NobodySpecial85 please. You have never seen a maimed person get a limb; you have never seen a man born blind get sight(besides rumors). People try to re-create what the Bible says happened with healings during the time of the Apostles, and you know it. God can heal, and does, but you know it's not like it was back then. Jews required a sign, and they got it BACK THEN.
Mat 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet:
I, personally, have not seen a maimed person get a limb, nor a man born blind get sight...
However I have seen a blind person receive vision, a deaf person receive hearing, more than one lame person lose his crutches, more than one person in a wheel chair get up, etc.
God has made healing available, if we don't get it, they we have not reached it. Seek and you will find, ask and it shall be given unto you, knock and the doors of the heavenly hospital shall be opened unto you. Even those who doubt some times receive miracles from God1 God is good, really good. Not all sick are healing, but you can't say that it is not God's will that all sick should be healed, it is always His will, but there are many other factors involved: time, disobedience, doubt, lack of
let me first say that he is right. healing is real but that is not appointed to a certain person. all i know is that ive witnessed it first hand. I myself prayed for a man that didnt have a eardrum. removed at an early age by surgery. and now he can hear. still no eardrum. BUT he is WRONG about rising from the dead. come to Union WV (not africa) and Talk to a man by the name of James Allen.then travel to the hospital/morgue where it was witnessed by nurses and doctors. (no pictures needed)
" Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Mat 7:23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Do muslims cast out demons in Jesus name?
Do eastern religions? do reformed churches? who (but the apostles) claim rights to these powers?
I really liked your video and your channel. If you need any help getting this video or channel exposed I use a site called tubeviews.(net) It has really helped like 20 of my main videos get to the top in position. God Bless!
@Jaysen1976 - Awesome quotation of scripture; however, I'm not sure how you intend to use it here. I searched what was said here and completely agree with him, altho, this was not my understanding prior. We must be willing to "Prove all things" and 'hold fast that which is good". Proving is an *ongoing* exercise, because our understanding can only be incremental. We can't "get it" all at once. Any serious Bible student knows this.
@rpavich where is the proof to your testimony ? just cause you say it happened, dont make it to be true. also good and bad things happening to you and you can say without a doubt its from GOD ? What GOD are you serving ?
I'm asking you; HISTORICALLY is what you see in Acts...normative for all church ages?
Can you point to any time in Christian history where there were "faith healers" who did what the Apostles did?
If you say that Christians should expect what's described in Acts...then call me when you've got tongues of fire over your heads and your next sunday service.
I became a christian one year ago. I started see signs and miracles three months ago. Since then, I have experienced two healings, result of fasting and prayer. I have experienced many great signs (daily). I have had one revelation about something it was happening with the telephone of someone: in five minutes, the revelation showed to be perfectly accurated. I have never seen a person raised from the dead (but almost that, in these three months).
I have a dear friend, called Marcia, playing in a christian band, that was travelling in Romenia in a tour (she is american), and, suddenly, trying to comunicate with someone of there, she started to understand the language of the person. (gift of tongues) And, the most outstanding thing, I have received, exactly as Isaq, a promise of a wite. For ten days, one after another, I saw really great miracles.
I have no problem believing God can bring fire from heaven right now in my room.
This is my personal experience. I have not seen all the signs and miracles of the New Testament. But I have seen outsanding miracles, I have no question about that and I know they came from God.
I know not much about them. I don't agree with the theology of Andrew. But one thing, it is clear to me. People are raised from the dead, the deaf, the blind and the lepper are healed today. It is all about faith.
I will tell a testimony that has happenned one hour ago. I was talking to my bride through msn. She said to me: "I have a tooth pain since the morning!". We talked about this by phone, in the morning. When she said this, I didn't pray about it, I just though with faith: "Rebeca is not feeling pain!". I would write, but I didn't. After one minute, she asks me: "Did you pray for my tooth?". I said "No! I just thought you were not feeling pain, with faith!". She said: "The pain is gone!"
quote "The miraculous power that Paul and peter have, does anyone have it today? ABSOLUTLY NOT!!"
That power comes from the Holy spirit, and by him saying we dont have the power is saying we dont have the Holy Ghost!! Dr Cairns better be carefull of his words. Dr you have no authority.. NONE to talk about the power of the Holy spirit, about who has and doesnt have it. Yes he is right there is no gift of healing, but he needs to read james 5:15-16 then Gal 2:20. Then read 1 Corinthians 12:9!!!!
The verse that talks about the gifts of healing is syaing that an individual was blessed by the spirit to heal . Real simple somehow the s on gifts throws off this guy. Read it five timesover in it's context. Read 1st corinthians 12 the first 12 verses. Also read acts, read matthew, mark , luke and John. There is a gift of healing just as there is a gift of KINDS OF TONGUES. The plural doesn't rule out a singular gift it just speaks to the diversity. Bad exegesis from the doctor.
Another possible reason that certain things happen in Africa is because people in Africa actually believe in the supernatural, meaning they actually believe that spirits or spiritual beings can make their presence known so they actually may have the faith required to see the dead raised while christians in America judge a miracle this way- some one does a miracle in Jesus name is false cuz God stopped doing miracles in Jesus name 1900 years ago, cuz my tradition(not the bible) says so.
There's no gift of healing but there are gifts of healing? Wow that's deep thanks for clearing that up. No one actually had the gift of healing(paul, john , stephen , phillip jesus peter) they had the gifts of healing or the healing done by them isn't them having the gift of healing. Wow he really proved that no one has the gift of healing today, cuz no one actually had the gift in the first place. Wow. I will never go to seminary cuz i might become like this guy and outsmart myself.
Gifts of healing- gift of healing- wow this is the type of silly hair splitting That confirms to me that intellectuals were never meant to high jack the faith. Apostles had the gift to heal so did evangelist. So he says God does not do miracles today. Wow. This is blasphemous . I've got a video of a guy who was embalmed that was raised from the dead. This is akin to unbelief. Lane please don't post this guy again you are embarassing your cause.
Listen to his last statement, he says the miracles paul and peter did no one can do today. He says no way. Akin means similair or of the same nature. Just as people who don't believe in God use the same rationale as i haven't seen God therefore he doesn't exist is the same rationale he uses for miracles. Just cuz he hasn't seen them he denies there existence his biblical presentation is weak and laughable.
"Just cuz he hasn't seen them he denies there existence his biblical presentation is weak and laughable."
Again, provide the quote where he says basically, "This isn't true because I haven't seen it."
Also, all you've basically presented as a "counter-argument" is "I've got a video of a guy who was embalmed that was raised from the dead." In other words, "This is true because I have seen it." Would you fault one for finding your pro-"argument" laughable as well?
The video i have they have the guy's testimony other people's testiomony and the doctor that embalmed him testimony. It's a blessing cuz it mirrors the type of testimony you see in the gospels for resurections and even christ . That's not my main contention your DR. asserts that no one does the miracles that the apostles did and no one can. He hasn't proved this biblically at all. Where does jesus say only the apostles shall do these things.
Again, provide the quote where he says basically, "This isn't true because I haven't seen it." If you're going to argue a point, make sure it's actually what they advocate. Not doing so and arguing a lesser argument than the person actually presents is called a straw man. So now, provide the quote.
He doesn't say , specifically that he doesn't believe because he hasn't seen, but that's what it boils down to because he has no SCRIPTURES to prove that miracles have ceased, but he says they have emphatically. How does he know that ,when jesus never says that once the apostles die then miracles have ceased. So Where does his reasoning come from? Sometimes you have to use discernment this is all that's going on here.
"loepower: He doesn't say , specifically that he doesn't believe because he hasn't seen,"
"LaneCD: Well, then why do you argue that point as though he did?"
The point is very simple. If Allain Cairns had seen the same miracles, it is mostly probable he would believe them. As he doesn't believe them, we conclude (very naturally), he hasn't seen them.
The point isn't whether Cairns has seen them or not, dudastabel. The point is trying to argue that the reason he gives for not believing in a gift of healing is BECAUSE he hasn't seen them is the reason that they don't exist is a straw man and has no place in this argument. I believe you missed the point that loepower set out to argue. Maybe Cairns hasn't seen a miracle first hand. That's irrelevant to what loepower was trying to argue.
I have experienced personally miracles. So I believe. The main problem with this video is that Allain Cairnes has Biblical support to his claim. It is SIMPLY his personal OPINION. He should have said: 'I THINK no one has, today, the gift (of gifts) of healing'. He says that NO ONE has, without ANY Biblical support. And this is the main problem with this video.
Can you give one passage of Scripture that says that there is a "gift of healing"? I know of one where it speaks of the gifts of healing, but can you provide one that says specifically that there is a "gift of healing"?
What exegetical evidence can you bring to show that IF something is mentioned about a certain people, then that's what all Christians should expect as part of their normative Christian life.
Example: Jesus raised the dead...
When's the last time you were at church and somebody got raised from the dead?
Many apostles healed REAL sicknesses.
When is the last time you saw a person get healed of a REAL ailment?
Look at John 9. Alan Cairns is spot on here. We are to look to the Bible and Jesus and NOT to preachers as the final authority. Pentecostals and charismatics basically exalt their own personal experience above Holy Scripture.
The position of Allain Cairns is merely his own opinion. He didn't cite any Biblical passage to support it. The passage in James is clear about calling the elders to pray for the sick. For me, what he is defending is merely his opinion and his unbelief. I have seen no Biblical content in it.
dudastable, Perhaps you should read the video description more carefully. Dr. Cairns Certainly knows Scripture, better than most. It is mainly an emotional response that is given when the truth hurts. Misguided Christians often feel that God is being taken away from them if they have a certain belief, such as tongues, personal revelation from scripture, ETC. Again, Dr. Cairns is not saying Christians shouldn't pray for it! He encourages Prayer ALL THE TIME, and not in vein! Peace 2 you.
I will not enter in a long discussion, ok. But I just want you realize one thing.
(1:29) "They had a power that was unique to them and those who were with them in their ministry. A power that has never passed on to anybody else."
(4:54) "But are there miraculous healings available today? No. If you understand what miracle means."
(5:46) "James 5 tell you to call for elders of the church. There is a lot of discussion about that passage, that time doesn't allow to enter in today."
Well so much for not entering into a long discussion :) 4 replies! I too do not have time at the moment, although I still contest that you are mistaken, and misunderstanding his statements. And theology IS of paramount importance- because there is ONE TRUTH to the words in Holy Scripture- it is not to be interpreted individually. I'm glad you do see through the smokescreen of many false prophets of today, and your testimony is encouraging. Lets be friends :)
(6:40) "I know that some of them say that they raise the dead, in the middle of the Africa or some place... in other words, they are frauds.
Can't you see the pattern? When he talks about the power not been passed to anyone else and when he denies miraculous healings today, he simply says NO. There is no Biblical passage to it. James, however, contradicts his points (very clearly), so what he says is: "You need a very good theology to understand that passage!".
Finally, when he talks about miraculous healings today, he just arrive at the conclusion: they are fraud! They must be fraud, because they don't fit his theology.
I have never seen someone raised from the dead or a blinded healed in front of me. I know that there are many frauds. (in my country, Brazil, there are plenty of them) But I have experienced so many outsanding miracles in my life that I have no doubt I will eventually see these things.
I have gone to pentecostal meetings where they ONLY talk about these kind of thing. This is absolutely ridiculous. The life of a christian is Christ and holyness. I didn't look for miracles. I was looking fervently for God and, one day, they started happening in a daily basis. Today, my theology ajusted to my experience with God and his Word, no the contrary.
I think you can pray that your body recieves healing or deliverance from illness. You don't have to pray,"according to your will" for God to do what he wants. Because we don't know why or if or when he will, Just ask for it! If he doesn't, well, continue in his Word and trust Him. Jesus never said "according to your will heal this blind man." Some people weren't healed, because they didn't BELIEVE God could. Good Video!
I consider Benny Hinn, Tod Bentley, Kenneth Copeland, etc. to be wolves in sheeps clothing. I'm a convinced Calvinist. I'm a member of an orthodox reformed church but I cannot agree with this man when he's bending Scripture to prove his point.
1 Corinthians 12:28 in context is surely talking about Christians with the special gift of healing.
An orthodox reformed Dutch theologian has put forward much better arguments why the "extra-ordinary" gifts aren't present anymore without bending Scripture
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
I know of a lady who the whole church prayed for her during Chemo for cancer. Prayer is mighty power thing!
God hears our cry's, but it is his will.
This lady has been cancer free for over 2 year now, We can't doubt what God will do for us, if we do we have little faith, if he doesn't answer, we know it's his will.
Not in the strict sense. A true cessationalist would hold that God doesn't heal at all today. I believe this is false and God does still heal people today.
I always wonder why these `healers` dont just go into hospitals and empty the wards. I'm sure the NHS would be happy for the help, they are always under pressure!
Matthew 10:7-8 And as you go, preach, saying, The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give
Mark 16:15- And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.
I'm not sure what the point was with the quotation of this verse. Did you want us to pick up snakes and drink poison? This verse seems to counter the point you intended to make, because these things occurred explicitly with the reception of the Gospel by the early church. I'm not trying to be rude, but just wanted to point it out as you may have glossed over all the points in the passage.
Have I passed down my sin to you? I ask Him please- that it's not true... ...and in His word I have found rest- it's so that He'll be made manifest. And that He is everyday- when prayer & praise chase fears away... -Excerpt from a poem about my daughter, called "Letting Go."
When we are the most broken is when are of the most use to God.
Joni Eareckson Tada was paralyzed & blamed God. He later saved her--but not by making her walk, He saved her spirit. She began to paint & now has a huge disability ministry.
Did God cause her injury? Did He cause my child's Autism or my dad's twisted legs? I doubt it. But these infirmaties have brought us to Christ, so I revel in them. -2 Cor. 12:9
& however broken I've felt, I was never as broken as He was on that cross.
At 2:47, people who say illness is because of sin are like the "friends" of Job who blamed him for his circumstances.
At 3:44, YES. It's time credible people expose "dangerous idiots."
My dad had a physical disability. He never went to church cause people wanted to make a spectacle out of him with the "laying on of hands." He told us, "The Bible says, 'Don't put your God to the test.' " And the ironic thing is - my brother & I saw him do things they COULDN'T do.
the blind leading the blind... that is what this guy is doing...
Miracles still happen, and Jesus told us to go and heal the sick... we have authority to heal the sick, otherwise Jesus would be unjust in asking us to do so...
yeah there are some bozo's out there who give healing a bad name... but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist...
just read the bible and do what it says... dont believe guys like this thou... he will lead you towards a defeated powerless christian life... which isnt right...
So how do we avoid the sensationalism of people like Todd Bentley and Benny Hinn? What we need is to remember that the Holy Spirit is not a spoiled brat out to get his own glory by going around impressing gullible people. He is Christocentric, that is, He glorifies Christ, teaching us about the person and work of Christ and empowering us to glorify God and spread the Gospel. We need to be more biblical, and more humble.
Nicely put. I would have looked at it more from the human angle that it is those false teachers who are "spoiled brats out to get their own glory by going around impressing gullible people," though.
I say this in love, and I am fairly convinced that it is biblical. I have known people who say that they have gifts of healing and tongues, and though I have no empirical proof of their claims, and think some of the ways they use those gifts are in direct contradiction to some of the things spoken of in 1Cor 14 (have you ever witnessed a tongues-apalooza?) I don't think that they are all a bunch of idiots.
One friend in particular has told me that praying (or maybe he is actually praising God) in a tongue helps him in times when he is experiencing temptation.
I think that what they need is not scholars to tell them that the gift that they have is from the devil, but to train them in the biblical way to use their God-given gifts. I wish I had been of that persuasion when I was with them and not after I left them.
Dr Cairns seems to think that "gifts of healing" refer to people who actually get healed, that to be healed is to have a gift of healing. But Paul speaks of healing as something that some people "have" or "possess" (1 Cor 12:30), which seems to indicate that a gift of healing is indeed a supernatural ability to heal. The plural may indicate that there are many kinds of gifts of healing.
It seems like the basic assumption in the argument for cessation is that the sole purpose of certain gifts (especially prophesy, tongues, miracles, and healing) is to confirm the apostles and their ministry. But I'm not convinced that this assumption is justified by the texts. For example, tongues is not spoken of exclusively as an extra-linguistic form of evangelism, but is also said to be directed toward God (1Cor 14:6) and is closely connected to praise (Acts 10:46).
Prophesy is said to be for the edification, encouragement, and consolation of the church (1 Cor 14:3). If New Testament prophesy is defined as "telling something that God has spontaneously brought to mind" (Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology, pp. 1050), then it seems to me that for it to cease would be catastrophic to the church.
As for miracles and healings, I agree that God is sovereign, and He dispenses these miracles and healings as He sees fit. Just because someone may have these gifts doesn't mean that they can heal or do a miracle whenever they want. There are several examples in the NT of people who had these gifts but couldn't just heal at will. Paul would be one example.
Contra your comment in the description box, I think he is arguing for cessation (see 1:25 - 1:38), which seems to me to be an over-reaction to false teaching. Just because gifts can be misused or faked doesn't mean that all gifts of healings are false or that we shouldn't seek after the genuine gifts when our aim is love (1Cor 14:1).
See John Piper's case for the continuation of healings:
He's not arguing cessation of *gifts of healing*. He makes that very clear during the last few minutes. He asserts that people are still healed today. He just doesn't assert that the Bible teaches "the gift of healing" since it doesn't. Far different from cessation.
True, but he does seem to think that the Apostles had some sort of "gift of healing" - though he steers clear of calling it that - which only they and some of their close associates had and now that they are dead no one has. To someone who believes in continuation, that would translate as cessation, and in my estimation, still an over-reaction to, or what I call "over-proof" against the ideas of people like Benny Hinn and Todd Bentley.
You don't have to think that none of the original readers of 1Corinthians and no one today had or has genuine gifts of tongues and healings in order to avoid that kind of sensationalism.
I'd like someone to show me Scripture where the miracles and gifts of the early church was exclusive to them. We serve the same God and are sealed and filled with the same Holy Spirit as they. I'll have to study to see whether I agree on the healing issue.
As far as the gift of tongues ( I posted a comment on the other video, but it strangely didn't show up.... it is here today. There has been documentation of tongues being able to be translated in one of my best friend's former churches.
Very enlightening message! I know of an incident in which a one legged man challanged a self proclimed Pentecostal prophet to make his leg grow back and promised to promote that faith widely and loudly if the prophet could and would do so.
Said false prophet thought for about 30 seconds dumbfounded and then shot back that he would IF the one-legged man lost 80 pounds first. ROFLOL his god works in mysterious ways I guess.
Our God is the Lord of glory who does as He sovereignly wills.
Maybe his plan was to chop off his other leg and move it over to the other side. Then he would have lost the 80 and gained a leg where there was none before.
Christ becomes our treasure, and having the more perfect revelation in these last days through God's Son, and seeing that He has confirmed His testimony through signs, let us concentrate on the FRUIT of the Spirit & the GLORIES OF THE PERSON AND WORK OF CHRIST. Those who place a greater emphasis about the miraculous sign gifts (when they were active in a transitory time in which the Apostles traveled and the Saints had no NT!) seem to be treating the Gospel with little care and seeking signs.
Do they understand that God is working all things for His glory?
Do they understand that the principle way in which God reveals His glory to us is by grace?
Do they understand that everything we receive is through faith, and that faith is NOT SEEING and yet STILL BELIEVING?
Also, the gift of healing seems to be that of a person healing. I have heard some say that prophecy today means preaching. Why accept such an unliteral interpretation?
Just a quick note on your comment about prophecy meaning preaching. The ministry of the prophet was always twofold in Scripture: Foretelling the Word and Forthtelling the Word. That is, both giving prophecy of future events revealed by God, and preaching the word. This is the point that is meant by cessation of prophecy as a sign, but continuation of it as a ministry of preaching.
I want to preach Christ crucified to the edification of the Church and not equivocation.
Vineyard/Latter Rain/Brownsville/Pentecostal type teachings along with the "do not judge" and "essential/non-essentials" debacle would have us to hold back.
I have no reason to hold back, for it is against the love of Christ for my Pentecostal friends to do so.
Let the burden of proof rest with them. Praytell, when was the last "miracle" that they saw?
I am a cessationist. That is not a dirty word, anymore than the words "Calvinist", "Christian", or any other thing.
I believe, with good reason, historical backing, in opposition to the heretical teaching of the Latter Rain, and in being consistent with God's dispensational manner of working, His unfolding of the mystery of the Church, the accounts of Acts, the character of the Apostles, the emphasis of Scripture; among other things, that the sign gifts are not for today.
I thought Dr. Cairns would go down the same direction as he did with tongues, he kinda still does, and yes God heals and if anyone heals it is through the power of God. Hinn and Bentley are phonies, but again I'm not throwing the baby out with the bath water just yet until I read scripture. I still haven't seen biblical evidence to suggest that the gifts of the Spirit aren't available to the believer today.
No reason to believe that God is miraculously healing today through miracle workers by the laying on of hands or anything else, because the Apostolic testimony has already been confirmed and signs DID follow those who believed.
There was never any "baby" in the bathwater of Latter Rain theology!!
The sign gifts are not for today, because if they were, you would have to explain things like, 1. How come there are no examples, 2. How come the people who have advocated this are heretics,
What must be understood about Acts is that it is a transitional book. The Pentecostals presuppositionally isegete into the Pentecost and similar Biblical accounts a harmful belief that this is God's normative way of working. Just how normative, then, was it for Gentiles to be granted repentance? I suppose they will have Pastors seeing visions beforehand for those who are about to speak in tongues because of Peter??
Sudier101, is John Piper (not to be confused with Todd Bentley or Benny Hinn) a heretic?
Do not cessationists presuppose that Acts is a transitional book and that certain gifts (i.e. prophesy, miracles, healings, and tongues) have the sole (keyword: sole) purpose of confirming the Apostles as special ministers of God? What is the textual support for this assumption?
So there are three opinions for you, if you're a student of the Bible, concerning gifts of God.
1. You don't believe the Church has ever had these gifts. And in that case, you are entirely contrary to the Bible, so any true Christian will ignore you!
2. You believe that the gifts were like milk, that they had an expiration date and ceased with the first apostles, which is not supported by the text. You're also ignored!
3. You believe the Church isn't here anymore! Cause the gifts go with it!
"For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another THE GIFTS OF HEALING by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues.." - 1 Corinthians 12:8-10
I believe what God has said, over what everyone else has to say, every day of the week! Joshua 24:15; AMEN!
Teddy, I'm not trying to sound rude in the least so please don't take it that way, but did you even watch the video because he addresses the part about "gifts of healing" ie. coming from the Lord and "the gift of healing" meaning some kind of ability individuals have (people like Todd Bentley and Benny Hinn claim)? Cairns says in this very video that the gifts of healing haven't ceased. He merely addresses the notion of what the word-faith guys are calling "the gift of healing."
I always look for the spiritual meaning of scripture and believe that God miraciously heals people today spiritually. We are dead in our sins and need to be raised from dead (born again) we are all born deaf, dumb, and blinded from the truth of the word of God and unless God heals you , you can not hear, see, or understand the truth of the gospel. May all that hear the gospel become healed by God and washed clean from their sins, God bless.

This is how you get healed if you are sick, or if you have cancer, or whatever. You go to the doctor.
Shoots1978 2 years ago
There are many false preachers dressed in wolves clothes, but one thing is true, "God is the same yesterday Today and forever" God does things according to his will, and he can move a mountain if he wants, because after all he is a living God. True sometimes he heals our sickness and sometimes he does not because everything goes according to his will. True some of those healers are bogus and lairs but let God be the one to judge them.

Um... sorry Dr. Alan, but I know how to heal the sick using authority... there is a difference.

Paul & Peter didn't have miraculous powers anyone today can't do. You just have to use the authority given to us in John 14:12.
NobodySpecial85 2 years ago

@NobodySpecial85 please. You have never seen a maimed person get a limb; you have never seen a man born blind get sight(besides rumors). People try to re-create what the Bible says happened with healings during the time of the Apostles, and you know it. God can heal, and does, but you know it's not like it was back then. Jews required a sign, and they got it BACK THEN.
armrpeercing 2 years ago
Mat 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given it but the sign of Jonah the prophet:
I, personally, have not seen a maimed person get a limb, nor a man born blind get sight...
However I have seen a blind person receive vision, a deaf person receive hearing, more than one lame person lose his crutches, more than one person in a wheel chair get up, etc.
NobodySpecial85 2 years ago
This is why we don't see it anymore today in America:
Mat 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Atheism and lukewarm believers.
Rev 3:16 So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth.
But I have faith and have experience of healing in Jesus' name. A man w/ an argument will never hold up to a man w/ experience.
Good bye 'armrpeercing.'

Jesus warns in Matthew 7:22
" Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Mat 7:23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'
Do muslims cast out demons in Jesus name?
Do eastern religions? do reformed churches? who (but the apostles) claim rights to these powers?

@Jaysen1976 - Awesome quotation of scripture; however, I'm not sure how you intend to use it here. I searched what was said here and completely agree with him, altho, this was not my understanding prior. We must be willing to "Prove all things" and 'hold fast that which is good". Proving is an *ongoing* exercise, because our understanding can only be incremental. We can't "get it" all at once. Any serious Bible student knows this.

Did you know that Mormons believe that Joseph Smith is a prophet of God, and that God is really a former man who was exalted?
Wanna know how they know?
Because they got a feeling...they have a testimony...just like you do.

Dear rpavich,
I liked very much your questions!
I have never seen a person raised from the dead (but almost that, in these three months).
dudastabel 2 years ago
I have a dear friend, called Marcia, playing in a christian band, that was travelling in Romenia in a tour (she is american), and, suddenly, trying to comunicate with someone of there, she started to understand the language of the person. (gift of tongues) And, the most outstanding thing, I have received, exactly as Isaq, a promise of a wite. For ten days, one after another, I saw really great miracles.
I have no problem believing God can bring fire from heaven right now in my room.
dudastabel 2 years ago
This is my personal experience. I have not seen all the signs and miracles of the New Testament. But I have seen outsanding miracles, I have no question about that and I know they came from God.

My exegesis is very simple. Just read John 14:12-14, Mathew 17:20 and Hebrews 13:8.
People, today, have forgotten two things. The first one is that God is a God os holiness. And the second one if that He is a God of miracles.
I just encourage you to pray to God and ask Him (not theologians), if He still do miracles. Ask Him and He will show to you.
I will pray for you!
God bless!

Just saying "read" a passage is not exegesis...you know that.

Have you heard of Heidi Baker?
Have you heard of the movie The Finger of God?
Have you heard of Andrew Wommack?
I know not much about them. I don't agree with the theology of Andrew. But one thing, it is clear to me. People are raised from the dead, the deaf, the blind and the lepper are healed today. It is all about faith.
Take a look.

Bad exegesis from the doctor.
loepower 2 years ago
Another possible reason that certain things happen in Africa is because people in Africa actually believe in the supernatural, meaning they actually believe that spirits or spiritual beings can make their presence known so they actually may have the faith required to see the dead raised while christians in America judge a miracle this way- some one does a miracle in Jesus name is false cuz God stopped doing miracles in Jesus name 1900 years ago, cuz my tradition(not the bible) says so.
loepower 2 years ago

Exactly what is akin to unbelief? Not believing there is a gift of healing and only believing there are gifts?
LaneCh 2 years ago
Saying God no Longer does miracles today because he hasn't seen it personally.
loepower 2 years ago
Wow. So first name the quote so that you derived that that was his argument, and two, so Cairns is an unbeliever since that is akin to unbelief?
LaneCh 2 years ago
Listen to his last statement, he says the miracles paul and peter did no one can do today. He says no way. Akin means similair or of the same nature. Just as people who don't believe in God use the same rationale as i haven't seen God therefore he doesn't exist is the same rationale he uses for miracles. Just cuz he hasn't seen them he denies there existence his biblical presentation is weak and laughable.
loepower 2 years ago
"Just cuz he hasn't seen them he denies there existence his biblical presentation is weak and laughable."
Again, provide the quote where he says basically, "This isn't true because I haven't seen it."
Also, all you've basically presented as a "counter-argument" is "I've got a video of a guy who was embalmed that was raised from the dead." In other words, "This is true because I have seen it." Would you fault one for finding your pro-"argument" laughable as well?
LaneCh 2 years ago
The video i have they have the guy's testimony other people's testiomony and the doctor that embalmed him testimony. It's a blessing cuz it mirrors the type of testimony you see in the gospels for resurections and even christ . That's not my main contention your DR. asserts that no one does the miracles that the apostles did and no one can. He hasn't proved this biblically at all. Where does jesus say only the apostles shall do these things.
loepower 2 years ago
Again, provide the quote where he says basically, "This isn't true because I haven't seen it." If you're going to argue a point, make sure it's actually what they advocate. Not doing so and arguing a lesser argument than the person actually presents is called a straw man. So now, provide the quote.
LaneCh 2 years ago
He doesn't say , specifically that he doesn't believe because he hasn't seen, but that's what it boils down to because he has no SCRIPTURES to prove that miracles have ceased, but he says they have emphatically. How does he know that ,when jesus never says that once the apostles die then miracles have ceased. So Where does his reasoning come from? Sometimes you have to use discernment this is all that's going on here.
loepower 2 years ago
"He doesn't say , specifically that he doesn't believe because he hasn't seen,"
Well, then why do you argue that point as though he did?
LaneCh 2 years ago
"loepower: He doesn't say , specifically that he doesn't believe because he hasn't seen,"
"LaneCD: Well, then why do you argue that point as though he did?"
The point is very simple. If Allain Cairns had seen the same miracles, it is mostly probable he would believe them. As he doesn't believe them, we conclude (very naturally), he hasn't seen them.
dudastabel 2 years ago
The point isn't whether Cairns has seen them or not, dudastabel. The point is trying to argue that the reason he gives for not believing in a gift of healing is BECAUSE he hasn't seen them is the reason that they don't exist is a straw man and has no place in this argument. I believe you missed the point that loepower set out to argue. Maybe Cairns hasn't seen a miracle first hand. That's irrelevant to what loepower was trying to argue.
LaneCh 2 years ago
I have experienced personally miracles. So I believe. The main problem with this video is that Allain Cairnes has Biblical support to his claim. It is SIMPLY his personal OPINION. He should have said: 'I THINK no one has, today, the gift (of gifts) of healing'. He says that NO ONE has, without ANY Biblical support. And this is the main problem with this video.
God bless!

Can you give one passage of Scripture that says that there is a "gift of healing"? I know of one where it speaks of the gifts of healing, but can you provide one that says specifically that there is a "gift of healing"?
LaneCh 2 years ago
Duda,
Ok...I'll turn the tables a little bit.

I have seen no Biblical content in it.
dudastabel 2 years ago
dudastable, Perhaps you should read the video description more carefully. Peace 2 you.
waylifetruth 2 years ago
I will not enter in a long discussion, ok. But I just want you realize one thing.
(1:29) "They had a power that was unique to them and those who were with them in their ministry. A power that has never passed on to anybody else."
(4:54) "But are there miraculous healings available today? No. If you understand what miracle means."
(5:46) "James 5 tell you to call for elders of the church. There is a lot of discussion about that passage, that time doesn't allow to enter in today."
dudastabel 2 years ago
Well so much for not entering into a long discussion :) 4 replies! I too do not have time at the moment, although I still contest that you are mistaken, and misunderstanding his statements. And theology IS of paramount importance- because there is ONE TRUTH to the words in Holy Scripture- it is not to be interpreted individually. I'm glad you do see through the smokescreen of many false prophets of today, and your testimony is encouraging. Lets be friends :)
waylifetruth 2 years ago
(6:40) "I know that some of them say that they raise the dead, in the middle of the Africa or some place... in other words, they are frauds.
Can't you see the pattern? When he talks about the power not been passed to anyone else and when he denies miraculous healings today, he simply says NO. There is no Biblical passage to it. James, however, contradicts his points (very clearly), so what he says is: "You need a very good theology to understand that passage!".
dudastabel 2 years ago
Finally, when he talks about miraculous healings today, he just arrive at the conclusion: they are fraud! They must be fraud, because they don't fit his theology.
I have never seen someone raised from the dead or a blinded healed in front of me. I know that there are many frauds. (in my country, Brazil, there are plenty of them) But I have experienced so many outsanding miracles in my life that I have no doubt I will eventually see these things.
dudastabel 2 years ago
I have gone to pentecostal meetings where they ONLY talk about these kind of thing. This is absolutely ridiculous. The life of a christian is Christ and holyness. I didn't look for miracles. I was looking fervently for God and, one day, they started happening in a daily basis. Today, my theology ajusted to my experience with God and his Word, no the contrary.
God bless you!

We need to be more biblical, and more humble.
gondorking86 3 years ago
Nicely put. I would have looked at it more from the human angle that it is those false teachers who are "spoiled brats out to get their own glory by going around impressing gullible people," though.
Anakrino 3 years ago
I say this in love, and I am fairly convinced that it is biblical. I have known people who say that they have gifts of healing and tongues, and though I have no empirical proof of their claims, and think some of the ways they use those gifts are in direct contradiction to some of the things spoken of in 1Cor 14 (have you ever witnessed a tongues-apalooza?) I don't think that they are all a bunch of idiots.
gondorking86 3 years ago
One friend in particular has told me that praying (or maybe he is actually praising God) in a tongue helps him in times when he is experiencing temptation.
I think that what they need is not scholars to tell them that the gift that they have is from the devil, but to train them in the biblical way to use their God-given gifts. I wish I had been of that persuasion when I was with them and not after I left them.
gondorking86 3 years ago
Dr Cairns seems to think that "gifts of healing" refer to people who actually get healed, that to be healed is to have a gift of healing. But Paul speaks of healing as something that some people "have" or "possess" (1 Cor 12:30), which seems to indicate that a gift of healing is indeed a supernatural ability to heal. The plural may indicate that there are many kinds of gifts of healing.
gondorking86 3 years ago
It seems like the basic assumption in the argument for cessation is that the sole purpose of certain gifts (especially prophesy, tongues, miracles, and healing) is to confirm the apostles and their ministry. But I'm not convinced that this assumption is justified by the texts. For example, tongues is not spoken of exclusively as an extra-linguistic form of evangelism, but is also said to be directed toward God (1Cor 14:6) and is closely connected to praise (Acts 10:46).
gondorking86 3 years ago
Pardon, I meant to say 1 Cor 14:2, not 14:6.
gondorking86 3 years ago
Prophesy is said to be for the edification, encouragement, and consolation of the church (1 Cor 14:3). If New Testament prophesy is defined as "telling something that God has spontaneously brought to mind" (Wayne Grudem, Systematic Theology, pp. 1050), then it seems to me that for it to cease would be catastrophic to the church.
gondorking86 3 years ago
As for miracles and healings, I agree that God is sovereign, and He dispenses these miracles and healings as He sees fit. Just because someone may have these gifts doesn't mean that they can heal or do a miracle whenever they want. There are several examples in the NT of people who had these gifts but couldn't just heal at will. Paul would be one example.
gondorking86 3 years ago
Contra your comment in the description box, I think he is arguing for cessation (see 1:25 - 1:38), which seems to me to be an over-reaction to false teaching. Just because gifts can be misused or faked doesn't mean that all gifts of healings are false or that we shouldn't seek after the genuine gifts when our aim is love (1Cor 14:1).
See John Piper's case for the continuation of healings:
desiringgod (.) org/ResourceLibrary/Sermons/ByDate/1990/712_Gifts_of_Healings_and_Workings_of_Miracles/
gondorking86 3 years ago
He's not arguing cessation of *gifts of healing*. He makes that very clear during the last few minutes. He asserts that people are still healed today. He just doesn't assert that the Bible teaches "the gift of healing" since it doesn't. Far different from cessation.
LaneCh 3 years ago
True, but he does seem to think that the Apostles had some sort of "gift of healing" - though he steers clear of calling it that - which only they and some of their close associates had and now that they are dead no one has. To someone who believes in continuation, that would translate as cessation, and in my estimation, still an over-reaction to, or what I call "over-proof" against the ideas of people like Benny Hinn and Todd Bentley.
gondorking86 3 years ago
I see where you're coming from now. Thanks for clearing that up.
LaneCh 3 years ago
You don't have to think that none of the original readers of 1Corinthians and no one today had or has genuine gifts of tongues and healings in order to avoid that kind of sensationalism.

Studier101 3 years ago
Do they understand that God is working all things for His glory?
Do they understand that the principle way in which God reveals His glory to us is by grace?
Do they understand that everything we receive is through faith, and that faith is NOT SEEING and yet STILL BELIEVING?
Also, the gift of healing seems to be that of a person healing. I have heard some say that prophecy today means preaching. Why accept such an unliteral interpretation?
No, but the sign gifts have ceased, PERIOD.
Studier101 3 years ago
Just a quick note on your comment about prophecy meaning preaching. The ministry of the prophet was always twofold in Scripture: Foretelling the Word and Forthtelling the Word. That is, both giving prophecy of future events revealed by God, and preaching the word. This is the point that is meant by cessation of prophecy as a sign, but continuation of it as a ministry of preaching.
Anakrino 3 years ago
I want to preach Christ crucified to the edification of the Church and not equivocation.
Vineyard/Latter Rain/Brownsville/Pentecostal type teachings along with the "do not judge" and "essential/non-essentials" debacle would have us to hold back.
I have no reason to hold back, for it is against the love of Christ for my Pentecostal friends to do so.
Let the burden of proof rest with them. Praytell, when was the last "miracle" that they saw?
Studier101 3 years ago

I love these in house debates...
simone56 3 years ago
No reason to believe that God is miraculously healing today through miracle workers by the laying on of hands or anything else, because the Apostolic testimony has already been confirmed and signs DID follow those who believed.
There was never any "baby" in the bathwater of Latter Rain theology!!
The sign gifts are not for today, because if they were, you would have to explain things like, 1. How come there are no examples, 2. How come the people who have advocated this are heretics,
Studier101 3 years ago
3. Why can't God do what He pleases?
What must be understood about Acts is that it is a transitional book. The Pentecostals presuppositionally isegete into the Pentecost and similar Biblical accounts a harmful belief that this is God's normative way of working. Just how normative, then, was it for Gentiles to be granted repentance? I suppose they will have Pastors seeing visions beforehand for those who are about to speak in tongues because of Peter??
Studier101 3 years ago
Sudier101, is John Piper (not to be confused with Todd Bentley or Benny Hinn) a heretic?
Do not cessationists presuppose that Acts is a transitional book and that certain gifts (i.e. prophesy, miracles, healings, and tongues) have the sole (keyword: sole) purpose of confirming the Apostles as special ministers of God? What is the textual support for this assumption?
gondorking86 3 years ago
Good opening point, but I think Studier likely misspoke, as his comments were more likely focused upon the Latter Rain Movement itself.
Anakrino 3 years ago
So there are three opinions for you, if you're a student of the Bible, concerning gifts of God.
1. You don't believe the Church has ever had these gifts. And in that case, you are entirely contrary to the Bible, so any true Christian will ignore you!
2. You believe that the gifts were like milk, that they had an expiration date and ceased with the first apostles, which is not supported by the text. You're also ignored!
3. You believe the Church isn't here anymore! Cause the gifts go with it!
