hey guys, need some help here.trying to setup redrock m2 on my xha1s.i follow the back focus process as described on redrock site and also i goolge some instruction.but i am not able to get the grain on the m2 in focus.at a point when i think its good and mount my nikom 85m or 50 mm lense its all black on monitor.as a rule i dont wnt to use iris or focus ring on my cam but on the lens.any idea?ur help is appreciated.
@smilepleaj Hmmm, sounds like maybe your camera's aperture might not be open wide enough? That's the thing some folks might forget during setup is you've got to manage two exposure settings, one on the camera and one on the lens attached to the M2. The back focus is all about finding the right setting on the iris and focus ring on your cam.
Any major difference between the redrock m2 and the brevis 35? The brevis is like 700-800 bucks less, but it achievs the same results like the redrock.
I don't have any experience with the Brevis. At the time of my purchase there was no other adapter that achieved the same light transparency as the M2. This was confirmed by a test conducted by American Cinematographer Magazine and the guys that shoot 24. The G35 was about the only real competition but it was still in beta. Where most adapters had anywhere from a 1-2stop penalty the M2 was as low as 1/2stop in tests and they've improved it even more since then.
I really cant see any noticeable difference with the adapter. I have the same camera and my footage looks just as good without all that other added shit. Siriousely, was it worth the money? I dont think so at all. My opinion
Absolutely worth the money. You can't get as wide of a shot with the stock lens and tiny aperture, neither can you get a wide shot with extremely shallow DOF. You also don't get filmlike circle of confusion effects. 24P and 1/48sec shutter speed is only part of the major difference in how video and film cameras create their images.
hey excellent work there. One question: what version of the Verizoom do you own. I plan on buying one to support the Redrock system I'll be buying soon as well. Thx in advance...
Hmmm, I don't have access to it right now it's with my brother in another state. However, for about the same money I'd suggest one of the shoulder mounts sporting dual grips. You can't go "hands free" like you can with the Varizoom, which has the torso support rod, but when we go to add a mattebox and external LCD monitor to the package I'm likely going to need to re-inforce the camera support on this one to be more robust. Just with the attached gear in the video here it's stressed.
There are terrible chromatic abberation caused by the lens. It looks like a 16mm movie back in 70' . This adaptation is no use for me. I rather prefer to shoot directly on Cannon EOS500 with a manual 50mm lens
We actually like the chromatic aberrations and don't like the fact that none of the current HD capable DLSRs seem to have complete manual exposure control (shutter or aperture, but not both) while shooting video, though the EOS500 is just a still camera if I'm not mistaken and fairly old so your preference has SFA to do with anything. Perhaps you meant a Canon 5D MkII? So far I've yet to see a DSLR I'd be happy with shooting narrative content. They're currently only half solutions.
Thanks for the demonstration. I have the AG-DVX100B also. It took years for me to decide to buy it. Although lately I'm wondering if I should of saved a bit more and bought the HD version of the AG-DVX100B. What are your thoughts on SD and HD differences. Have you checked what the videos look like on a new HD TV. You really went all out buying the Redrock M2 and Nicon 35 MM lens..wow
This footage was from a couple years ago, I just re-encoded it for better quality. The DVX we used for this test is actually a friend's as we were still determining what we wanted to get. At the time there were few HD options compared to now. Then, as well as now, we lean towards the JVC technology for prosumer gear though the HVX from Panasonic is a good option as well. We're not fans of either Sony or Canon attempts at 24P and neither current DSLR options have the right features.

@sausagenmuff It looks good. I'm going to be re-configuring my M2 again soon so I should have some better test footage uploaded, hopefully soon.

What diameter of lens can be mount into M2?In mm please...
luke01112121212121 2 years ago
I can mount a Nikkor of any size to mine. You order it for the type of lenses you want. Nikkor, Canon, Pentax, etc.
