OMG! Natalie Dormer was NUTS in this! I can't help but feel that the real Anne Boleyn was as passionate, sensual, and hot- blooded as her interpretation; and Thomas More! Jeremy Northam played him so well.... definitely watched it for him too!
Too bad he got killed, he was a very interesting character/ moral compass in the show...
this is such a great example of how the BBC has let down its licence fee payers.. What a missed opportunity. ' the tudors' is a great idea - could have been fantastic, could have been a long running serious drama. instead we have this shallow boring shiny tosh. On the other hand 'the plantagenets' on radio 4 has been brilliant, at the moment the best British drama's are on radio.
You realize this show is not meant to be viewed by little kids. Plus showtime is a premimum cable channel they don't have to abide by censorship laws like the other networks do. They can use profane language and show nudity.
It's a natural thing, essential to keep life on Earth, you know..? Everybody's does it! Even more in those days. It wouldn't be realistic if they did not include sex.
Well, ok... That's your opinion. I just don't think it's that bad. Sex is a good thing and we still see it today as something forbidden or dirty... I don't get it.
Society has made sex dirty. Making porn sites and videos. exposing sex on tv for young people. Sex is a beautiful thing if your the right age and in love. young people like watching the tudors because it's a historical t.v show of what happened, but they shouldnt have to see to people having sex. It gets really uncomfortable espcially when your watching it with your parents.
Well, ok... That's your opinion. I just don't think it's that bad. Sex is a good thing, but we still see it today as something forbidden or dirty. I don't get it.
I liked Catherine the most!!! What a woman! Too bad she had to die in poverty. They could have found another king for her. And I don't see why she didn't go back to Spain.
Going back to Spain would have been a mark of failure for her,and she could not marry again without admitting she was not married to Henry, which she would not do and the catholic church would not accept, and she was a catholic.
I think this was the best season of tudors until this moment. season 3 was also good but i didn't like so much because anne boleyn didn't participate. natalie dormer was an amazing annei hope that in the fourth season elizabeth , anne's daughter, appears more than in the third season. the tudors is the best TV show ever made
On the earlier debate over Anne's treatment of her stepdaughter, Mary...
Anne was known for being sharp-tongued and ambitious--hardly condemning faults, in my perspective, but that's the way it was. She knew that she and Elizabeth were in precarious situations. Henry made almost anyone who loved him fight for his/her position. In deposing Mary, Anne was securing her own child's place. It was safer to do so--it wasn't fair, but that's life. She did what she had to do for her daughter.
I don't really care whether this is 100% accurate or not, I just love historical movies/series, the costumes, the atmosphere etc. And definitely do not mind looking at Jonathan's hot body either!!!
Poorly inaccurate show... Anyone who does even a little research knows that King Henry had auburn hair. At the very least they could have dyed John Rys Myer's hair to keep the show a little more realistic...
lool anne boleyn had dark brown eyes that were almost black. but natalie dormers are blue. why no use contacts? because those details are insignificance XD
no its a known fact anne was dark. even search it on google, she is typically described to have constrasted the average tudor bueaty of rosy skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. anne had pale skin, but dark brown hair and eyes that were apperently so dark a brown they could have been black. duh
it is a showtime show that is loosley based on history! thats the whole point! its not supposed to be true, have you seen Elizabeth with Cate Blanchett, the creater of this show made that movie, and it was also loosley based on history, notice a pattern?
I was considering buying the DVD of this series because I enjoy English period films. There are a lot of quality series on premium channels, and by the post here I am assuming that this series is top notch.
One thing that should be kept in mind regarding history is that there is a margin of error because history can be biased based on records and text that was passed down through the ages.
Many authors can publish a book and claim that they have the correct info.
The Tudors is NOT a documentry, nor is it completely ficticious. The history of the Tudor monarchs is in itself truly fascinating without the added drama of television, and I urge those of you who enjoy this series to read up on it, you will not be dissapointed. For those of you adamently receiting everything you see in the episodes as truth, I would suggest you at the very least check Wikipedia before presenting other ideas to others, least you look misinformed.
yeah i am going to i love the show! and i know there's so much more to it than what is in the show. I'm on the newest season and i wanted there to be more with anne of cleves cause i love joss stone but there wasn't. i liked what you said though
I think a lot of the people leaving these comments should do some basic research about the people you claim to know so much about. There are SO MANY untruths listed below it astounds me. READ people READ! There has never been any evidence that George Boleyn was a homosexual but people keep spreading the rumor. And if you think Anne and Henry did not love one another you are very misinformed. May I suggest The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn by Eric Ives
Actually, one of the biggest things that people interested in history don't like about this show is Jonathan Meyers. He didn't to a great portrayal and the fact that he looks absolutely nothing like King Henry makes it very difficult to watch.
The more modern crap, Screw that. I find this the most facinating story in the history books. She couldn't fight for it. But what is this mess, George gay? He was supposed to be beheaded for sleeping with Anne. Which was not true but just an excuse to behead Anne. But how can he be gay and be blamed of such?
Is anyone else slightly peeved that henry is a brunette and not a red head in this? I mean its something that people associate Henry VIII with, its like his trademark!
just watched the next episode and am bloody hopping mad!!!!!!!!! now george is not only gay but he buggered his wife!!!!!ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! what are we doing here???????????? this may be HISTORICAL FICTION and maybe i should calm down but thousands maybe even millions of people WILL beleive this! yes i know it's the idiot box "hon" but how many confuse documentaries with this shit?? you done a poll recently? AGAIN these were REAL people who lived, loved, and died! how would you feel?
It's historical fiction. I think ppl are taking this too seriously. History, for one, has always been downgraded in the schools in some sort of way. And then the writers and producers of this show and many other shows of this nature have pointed out that they are not trying to tell a fact by fact story of the past. That is what research is for. Now for those who will believe every bit of detail presented in the series as truth just because it's on television, then we have a bigger problem.
but some people are more attracted by this kind of storry, not by true history :P this is ok but the producers should warrned the people that this is not entirely true (sorry for my english :P )
the "wtiters and producers" do not put up any information at the begining of ANY episode that this is FICTION!!!!!!!!!!! and yes i think we have a HUGE problem with this crap!
he really treated anne bad.and the rest of the wives..i think catherine of aragon and anne boleyn were the strongest..anne really got ahead of herself..and reached too high in power..and thats one of the reasons of her downfall..
henry loved anne im sure of that...but he ended up hating her and himself..and later in his life i think he regreted killing her..but once he had his son...he was happy enough..but still wonted more
henry had wife after wife untill his death but this show will never show that i belive henry was caught between wanting a son and the lies that were spearding about Anne being with her borther which left one choice be rid of her but his love for her was never matched by another woman
I think the entire point for them changing the historical facts of it is for enjoyment and entertainment only. If you want history, do research. Its shows like these that made me interested in researching the history behind it. Only a fool would believe the "idiot box" verbatim. Sheesh!!!
but thats the point! having now looked into the true facts behind this dribble, don't you feel that there was no need to alter history? the true story is as amazing as the rubbish they invent! you obviously now accept that this is c--p but how many thousands will beleive it? at a time when history is being downgraded in schools this is a dangerous path!
Well hun, they dont call tv the idiot box for nothing. This show was never meant to be historically 100% accurate. I read my history on them. This is HISTORICAL FICTION. Keyword: Fiction.
ther are lot of volonteers errors in this movies.
example,Margareth no exist, it's marie and she not married with the kings of portugal but with louis XII kings of france and she had never kill his husband
Worsley is not suicide, but he is die by natural death... and there are lot of others things totally wrong.
the costumes and the actors are good, but i am dissapointed by the fact that the americans writters transform the truth for a senario and for bizness
Modern dummed down Americanised badly written rubbish for the masses. The BBC should refuse to show this and go for a minority audience with its drama- ie. those with an IQ above 3.
just watched episode 3 last night - what utter C--P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to besmirch George Boleyn and portray him as gay is unbeleivable! as for suggesting William Brereton was working for the Pope!!!!!!!
these were real, incredibly brave, loyal men who stood by Anne in her times of trouble they deserve so much more than this!
There actually is alot of evidence pointing to the fact that George was at least bi and might even have had a sexual relationship w/ Anne. Good book to read:The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.
there is NO evidence that George was gay or bi! the other Boleyn girl is a lot of old tosh too! George did have relationships with women other than his wife, no men were ever mentioned in connection with his sexual affairs! it seems only logical that if there had been any hint of George's homesexuality that would also have been used to destroy Anne.
both Anne and George swore their innocence to ALL the charges b4 their deaths, and even his wife - Jane confessed she had lied b4 her own death!
Well of course they swore their innocence; they stood to be put to death. I'd be saying anything to save my neck too. And if there wasn't any sort of evidence pointing to his sexuality being more than straight there wouldn't be such strong rumors. But thats just my opinion.
NO! they swore their innocence AFTER they were condemned!!!!! they made their final confessions TRULY beleiving if they lied they would'nt go to heaven! jane boleyn also CONFESSED to lying about the charge of incest against anne and george, just before she died.
The rumours about George being bi sexual were not mentioned during his lifetime! thats the whole point! - it is a modern myth created by fiction writers and tv to try and make history more modern!
yes the the other boleyn girl is merly jus imagination her way of what she belived happened none of it is really true either expect that anne and george were beheaded
yes the the other boleyn girl is merly jus imagination her way of what she belived happened none of it is really true either expect that anne and george were beheaded
I love these episodes although not everything in the first season was true. Some facts were changed and some didn't happen. But it's still a good series. Looking forward to the next (second) season.
The story does mak up a lot of things, and re writes history in many ways.
Still it's very well done, I enjoy it and see it as fiction inspired by history.
I do not like the cats very well, at least they could have remained as loyal as possible to the physical descriptions that exist. The physical contradictions really disturb me while watching.
Henry VIII had two sisters, not one. Neither of them married the King of Portugal. Wolsey was never imprisoned. Nor did he commit suicide. And so it goes on. Error piled upon error.
The costumes are a joke. One of Ann Boleyn's costumes was based on a carving in Blickling Hall, Norfolk which is actually a Victorian fantasy piece. As for Henry - is that a Hell's Angel cast off he's wearing?
A poorly researched series that is obviously aimed at the dumbed down American audience.
lol!Take the stick out of your tight British "arse". History is often skewed for the sake of entertainment-all over the world, not only in the USA. This isn't meant to be a documentary accurately depicting every window treatment. And besides the writer, director, producer is a Brit so you only have one of your own country men to blame. Stop being such an insecure critic. If I were to judge every Brit based on the crap from your televisions I could use YOUR same argument against your cuntry.
Well said (although I'm British I completely agree..if you can't appreciate the show for the entertainment it provides and too intellectual not to fail to recognize the show's historical inaccuracies don't damn well watch it! And Regimond I do hope that wasn't a cheap shot at our "cuntry"... ;)
Well the producers of "Elizabeth" used that piece-and it's been in tons of other films but especially "Amadeus". So are they copy cats too? This music has been around for centuries. Surely you must realize such music has been used since the beginning of movies with sound.
This show is the best thing out in a long time next to Brazil's City of Men. Tudors is well-written. The wardrobe design is just highly tasteful and intricately exquisite. Just big Kudos to the entire production - *Big Hand* for the acting, writing, the direction. Jonathan Rhys Myers and the entire cast! I love that I can sit down and just watch this story without the some bothersome awareness of it just being a TV series. This is the mark of a truly great production. Can't say enough obviously!
I love this show sooooo much! I have always loved Tudor history so this show was absolutely perfect for me. i can't wait until the 2nd season comes out on DVD cuz i sadly cannot get Showtime.
You let the King Of England cum inside of you lady. Give him his long-awaited son. It's good manners. Also you must love him ardently. Which you won't in the long reach. Which is why Anne got the death axe. Seven swipes in a row......

I love a good fictional historical romp and this is one of the best for that. It is however completely inaccuarate so if you don't know anything about tudor history please don't take this as the truth. Oh and Henry VIII was a red head!
i luv the tudors (specially anne!) they just rock and the show rox! im missing season 2 right now bcuz i hav no cable!! :'( so sad! wahh. anyways TUDROS ROX!
yes at king Henry did one thing right created one of the best queens England had ever had queen Elizabeth was a great queen. I saw the crypt in London.God Bless England.I was in London 4 years ago and loved it there.the Tudors is such a good show. I woundt mind being the actor who played king Henry the guy is so hansome hot and cute.

henry had wife after wife untill his death but this show will never show that i belive henry was caught between wanting a son and the lies that were spearding about Anne being with her borther which left one choice be rid of her but his love for her was never matched by another woman

I think the entire point for them changing the historical facts of it is for enjoyment and entertainment only. If you want history, do research. Its shows like these that made me interested in researching the history behind it. Only a fool would believe the "idiot box" verbatim. Sheesh!!!
DuttyGyal718 3 years ago
but thats the point! having now looked into the true facts behind this dribble, don't you feel that there was no need to alter history? the true story is as amazing as the rubbish they invent! you obviously now accept that this is c--p but how many thousands will beleive it? at a time when history is being downgraded in schools this is a dangerous path!
tiredoldbag 3 years ago
Well hun, they dont call tv the idiot box for nothing. This show was never meant to be historically 100% accurate. I read my history on them. This is HISTORICAL FICTION. Keyword: Fiction.
DuttyGyal718 3 years ago 2
ther are lot of volonteers errors in this movies.
example,Margareth no exist, it's marie and she not married with the kings of portugal but with louis XII kings of france and she had never kill his husband

The BBC should refuse to show this and go for a minority audience with its drama- ie. those with an IQ above 3.

just watched episode 3 last night - what utter C--P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to besmirch George Boleyn and portray him as gay is unbeleivable! as for suggesting William Brereton was working for the Pope!!!!!!!
these were real, incredibly brave, loyal men who stood by Anne in her times of trouble they deserve so much more than this!
tiredoldbag 3 years ago
Stood by Anne!? Anne Boleyn was a harlot!
She deserved what she got. Katherine was the good, noble one. She truely loved Henry, and stuck by her beliefs through great adversity.
However, I do agree that sometimes the show takes too much dramatic licence with historic events.
cecilygrace 3 years ago
There actually is alot of evidence pointing to the fact that George was at least bi and might even have had a sexual relationship w/ Anne. Good book to read:The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.
MousieButtons 3 years ago
there is NO evidence that George was gay or bi! the other Boleyn girl is a lot of old tosh too! George did have relationships with women other than his wife, no men were ever mentioned in connection with his sexual affairs! it seems only logical that if there had been any hint of George's homesexuality that would also have been used to destroy Anne.
both Anne and George swore their innocence to ALL the charges b4 their deaths, and even his wife - Jane confessed she had lied b4 her own death!
tiredoldbag 3 years ago 2
Well of course they swore their innocence; they stood to be put to death. I'd be saying anything to save my neck too. And if there wasn't any sort of evidence pointing to his sexuality being more than straight there wouldn't be such strong rumors. But thats just my opinion.
MousieButtons 3 years ago
NO! they swore their innocence AFTER they were condemned!!!!! they made their final confessions TRULY beleiving if they lied they would'nt go to heaven! jane boleyn also CONFESSED to lying about the charge of incest against anne and george, just before she died.
The rumours about George being bi sexual were not mentioned during his lifetime! thats the whole point! - it is a modern myth created by fiction writers and tv to try and make history more modern!
tiredoldbag 3 years ago
yes the the other boleyn girl is merly jus imagination her way of what she belived happened none of it is really true either expect that anne and george were beheaded

Still I like the series.

DirectorStahlman 3 years ago
lol!Take the stick out of your tight British "arse".
Regimond 3 years ago
