  • Check out Concrete Blonde Everybody Knows Spaceland 2001

  • A rectrum centric commercial we have to wade through.....

  • She did a good version of cohens song, love that she sings so fast and quiet and also enjoy watching how she sings while using her body and her eye contact.

  • who was brought here by pump up the volume

  • One of the best and most underrated voices in rock.

  • Everybody Knooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooows

  • Everybody knows that if you cover Leonard Cohen, you should at least get the lyrics right... its "Everybody talking to their pockets"... not "Everybody's hands are in their pockets" @0:59... The latter loses virtually all the poetry of the original...

  • @thequijote Everybody knows "hands are in their pockets" = something to hide

  • @thequijote Agreed.

  • Legend...

  • is this playlist (talk hard) named after the stan ridgway song that, along with this song was in Pump up the Volume?

  • I feel in love with this voice at 19 with this song. At 39 I saw her video "Take Me Home" and even more in love. This song is 20 yrs old and she has only gotten better with age.

  • absolutely the most beautiful voice ive heard i love her!!!

  • Kat Von D brought me here

  • @tdaman123 haha me too ! :D (TLC)

  • I didn't expect that voice, guess the brainwashing has worked.

  • This song should be the anthem of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement.

  • hahaha... Johnette Napolitano CHANGED the lyrics at this bits: "Everybody knows that the boat is leaking" turned to "Everybody knows that the boat is SINKING" and "Like their father or their dog just died" to "Like their MOMMA or their dog just died".

    Funny. Genious. Bad Girl.

  • how often does one come across a voice that embodies despair and hope at the same time?

  • fav

  • @iNickOwens and to think this was probably done in one take, no protools, no overdubs

  • Damn! That's too much! Most underated and genius band in 80's.

  • thats true you should find yourself a new plant too smoke

  • i like to eat feces while listening to this song

  • I so love this song... Cohen a lyrical genius... but her voice on this... I first heard it when I was 19.... gave me chills then, and now at 40, still does it!!! Amazing!

  • 1 Word...Goose Pimples...

    OK 2 words.... :-)

  • @POINTTALKERS i think L.Cohen would agree that she owns this song now...i would say concrete blonde is the reason i know who Len Cohen is but,ive seen natural born killers like a million times...funny that both versions of this song were in the pump up the volume movie..but not on the soundtrack...wtf.

  • @NotoTruth , um, the concrete blonde version of this IS on the soundtrack. It's the first song. also, please don't speak for Leonard Cohen. This is a great version, but it will always be his song.

  • @dhildemann what are u talkin about...im leonard cohens publicist...

  • Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde explains what happens when heat, cross-country treks and tequila mix poorly. Read more at The Worst Gig (WorstGig.com).

  • watch?v=2o8ODULQIk0&feature=channel_video_title

Beavis and Butt-head and Concrete Blonde

  • I love it when Johnette belts it out at the end. It's like getting speared through the heart, in a good way.

  • "just so many people you had to meet, without your clothes" kinda sounds like my ex :/

  • @WittyKitteh123 prob so many peeps exes my friend

  • buenisisisisima cancion !!!!!!!!!!!!! remembranza!!!!!

  • i still remember the first time when i heard this great song. thanks to Johnette.

  • Joahnette Napolitano..or whatever the fuck her name is...is kinda hot

  • After listening to this I am just a couple of eyes on a pool of goo on the floor

  • Johnette always reminded me of a rogue and darker version of Princess Leia. And that's a great thing.

  • Cohen should have been pissed

  • lotta woman right there

  • This is my favorite version of this song.

  • get a hair cut skinny tiny tim

  • I'm guessing 35 people don't know How It Goes.....

  • @HippieJimi

...well, it goes much better with L. Cohen

  • @szerencsei besides beig a hippie you are gay.

  • @luigithunders

If knowing the difference between good music and alternative crap is gay, then You are right.

  • Everybody nose

    Everybody eyes

    Everybody ears

    And everybody nose

  • leonard WHO?

  • Just found out today that this is a cover of an old song! I like the CB version much better though.

  • I love this song, loved it since i seen it in "Pump up the Volume" with christian slater

  • pump up the volume!!!! movie

  • Naked wearing a cockring

  • I think Johnette has one of the most pleasing female voices in music. To say nothing of goth (I never considered CB goth, but many gothers/death rockers dig them and give them complete acceptance) or rock in general, she could sing jazz beautifully. A lot of female singers become cloying when they move into the top of their range, but Johnette has this awesome, haunting timbre that is rarely seen.

  • This video is a dream...

  • 35 People still don't know

  • Everybody knows that's how it goes, first your money, then your clothes.

Some crazy dude told me that one day when riding my bike on the strand, apparently he told this woman too.

  • @deadpammy

The thing is, that guy wasn't crazy.

  • EVERYBODY KNOWS..............there in lies the satire......as we play along..note our empty eyes...blank stares, as we see past the play...the veneeer thin fasaad. You will notice the slight grin...and raised eyebrows of perception as we note your play while seeing the deceptious intent of your script. You see....the insult lies not in your actions....but in your attempt at deceipt

  • Like Bukley's Hallelujah , this is exactly what Leonard Cohen had in mind when he penned this master piece

  • The fact that my generation listens to Justin Bieber's prepubescent wailing and calls it music, and yet rejects this sort of music as though it's the plague saddens me. 'Nonconformity? Listening to music with substance? No! I might not be viewed as socially acceptable, and there's nothing to life but being accepted by people I may or may not actually have any non-superficial emotions for!'

  • @EasilyDistLOOKABIRDY Agreed :) But i don't care that im socially unacceptable I love it.

  • @soren1435 That's the point of the quotations/sarcasm. :P

  • @EasilyDistLOOKABIRDY haha oh.... :p

  • i find the pieces of tissue being thrown about in the background very amusing HAHAH

  • everybody knows.

  • my first dance at my wedding in 1992 was the The Blondes version of Little Wing. They are incredible, they are a time in my life held in perfect tempo and memory with each note.

  • OMG...they really wanted to kill this song. Same as ONE (u2+mary jay)

  • Anyone else find it odd to hear this at full speed?

  • Pump up the volume!!! Do they really all know????? I mean it does happen to some! Poeple just have to learn to treat each other right. I believe thats the point they were putting out,and reality to some! Good song!

  • quality gothic rock

  • @ABTE67 I'm guessing you are likely a teenager and only recently "discovered" this song. Know what? just because you're generation discovers songs like this that have been around long before you were even born it doesn't give you the right to decide what style of music it is. And your idiotic generation also doesn't think that oral sex is sex and yet STDs are absolutely transmitted that way.

  • @richardthewriter I'm a Cohen fan and a Concrete Blonde fan and you didn't have to besmirch the kid like that. Ms. Napolitano is a master in her own right. So what if she covers a Cohen song? And yes- a song can be sung or played to fit with any genre. I think Type O Negative does a good job with Summer Breeze.

  • Real Angel Johnette Napolitano --- the Best, Unique and Most Gifted Singer Ever. I love her! And she is soooo cute... her skin is sooo soft... I love her joy, her hair, her face. Her face changes always better. Chameleon. Angel. DELICIOUS! Johnette is a MIRACLE, pure magic! I never heard a song so soft, light, positive, as "paradise is home". That's heaven!

  • @Hacker73 who cares??...this is such a GREAT rendition of this song..I'm willing to give them a bit of artists leeway...

  • This was a time.. a far out time...Nirvana, The chili peppers, Pulp Fiction. I hope the people under 25 have that time now. Somehow, though, with Justin beiber and Snookie I fear not :(..

  • @lioncourt1770 Sure they do. The Justin Bieber & Lady Gaga of today were the New Kids on the Block and Madonna or Debbie Gibson of yesterday. And people railed that it was the end of music, yet music survived. I loved this music when it was out in the early 90s. At the time, there was, for example, Hootie & the Blowfish. Remember them??

  • @Sue71

I used to think that as well Suze...but the musical wasteland of the 21st century shows no sign of changing anytime soon.

  • @Sue71

Youre right, the only difference was that the only tv channel played cool music aswell, in those days.

Many good Bands like Faith No More got famous though MTV, that's a concept that does not work today, at least not for MTV as they only wanna score with the kids of today, who just listen to cellphone-ringtones and watch stupid dating show, or so it seems ;-)

  • LEONARD COHEN IS STILL THE BEST!

  • I saw them at Tipatinas in New Orleans in 1992. I was so close I could see Johnettes pores LOL. I cried through half the show, I was so moved. By far my favorite group of all time.

  • i love them! i want to see them live, they are so inspireing to me, im 13 and she has opened my eyes! <3 !

  • i love them! i want to see them live, they are so inspireing to me, im 13 and she has opened my eyes! <3

  • I'm an old guy and a Cohen fan and I'm listening to this version for the first time and I think its excellent! She gives the song a whole new interpretation, a darker undertone, but it works. ..."so many people you just had to meet without your clothes..." Only Leonard could write a line like that.

  • Perfect version. Atmosphere, nuance; a chiller and thriller.

  • i would love to meet this band

  • Bandota!

  • this song has been in my life since i was 4 and i love my mom and dad and i wish they would be together again but im sure it wont happen

  • How can 33 people give this a thumbs down......Everybody knows but them.....

  • Everybody wants a box of chocolates and a long stem rose.

What a slam on American marketing.

  • @RP27F8G i think its more a slam on wishfulness.

  • A great cover by a band that was worth a shit...Jonhette is a great singer and artist.

  • Midnight FM

  • a little to fast for my tastes but still a good cover

  • i remember my mom had CB casettes... i got so hooked on them when i was a kid... i still love them!!

  • i love the whole vampire sceane thats cool as hell and concrete blond has always been one of my favorites

  • Leonard would be proud. A fabulous version and a fabulous singer.

  • The problems start out so broad & general, & funnel down to her own heartbreak. it's as if she's tired of you shaking your head in denial while she's growling out all the lyrics...and finally she just has to scream it in your face: EVERYBODY KNOWS!! EV-RY-BODY KNOWS!! ...that's how it goes (there's nothing you can do about it now)...and everybody knows (what you've done).

  • My favorite female vocalist...ever.

  • EVERYBODY KNOWS WHAT????

  • @ALOW524 The dice are loaded, you love me, the war is over, the good guys lost, um, what else? ;)

  • @Sue7That's how it goes and everybody knows.

  • concrete blonde in lima for the second time ... hell yeahhh

  • Check out KREEP they did a killer cover of BLOODLETTING

  • i love concrete blonde i love blondies :D

  • 3:35 -> bliss

  • One of my favorites, and I agree it's a great Cohen cover.

  • Great version of cohen :)

  • Agreed on the goose bumps.. that voice.. Johnette is one of the sexiest women ever in my book. I'll be enjoying Concrete Blonde for a long time to come.

  • <3 Wow, This woman is amazing.

  • Leonard was Nostradamus for America's future, wasn't he?

  • @TheLeftyGrove who would have figured he'd have visions of Pelosi, Reid and Obama? lol

  • Luv Her writing going to see them this week in concert..can not wait......ROK!!!!!

  • 1 word....Goose pimples...Ok 2 words...

  • Pump Up the Volume is one of my all time fave movies! Great song, but no one can do it like Leonard!

  • They should make this the National Anthem.

  • LOOK AT THAT CUTE NOSE IN THE MIDDLE OF THAT BEAUTIFUL FACE.

  • sooo goood i can never pick a favorite of hers. ALL TOO GOOD<3

  • damn shes sexy, sexy voice too

  • James Mankey perfect guitarist, sadly left out of the mainstream, to their loss, to our advantage..........just listen to that.......superb

  • Sweet, the search for the best music continues. Thanks for posting. Best song I've heard this year. Wish I would have heard it when it came out.

  • Whoever chose the wardrobe for Johnette in this video did a hell of a job. I LOVE her clothes!

  • 3:38 best part ever

  • Johnette - weirdest nose ever but best voice in the universe!

  • I'm absolutely certain that Leonard Cohen would give a thumbs up to this song. It's brilliant.

  • she rocks so hard. love the band. love the lady. love love love.

  • It was this cover and Tomorrow Wendy that got me into concrete blonde. Most covers I've heard of Cohen were by people who weren't even fit to carry his coat. This one is a standout exception. It Rules.

  • Pump Up the Volume starred Christian Slater, not Keifer. GREAT movie, one of the best soundtracks ever!

  • @akahl78 yep, it's a timeless soundtrack, i play it at parties, all hits, no skips

  • I like this version better than the Original.

  • Nice.

    But, no ''cigar'.

Check out EVERY BODY KNOWS, the studio clip.

    You will not be dissapointed.

  • awesome reminds me

  • This is Leonard Cohen's fave cover of this song and for good reason! It's bona fide!

  • the poor stay poor and rich get rich ...that's just how it goes...LOVE this song! Ten Points for anyone who can tell me which movie this song was in?? and on the soundtrack classic film!

  • @drdethsdoll easy ..... Pump up the Volume

  • @drdethsdoll Pump Up the Volume with Keither Sutherland if I'm right. "Talk Hard!"

  • amazing song..amazing band..amazing singer..i love it

  • Gods, Johnette is still so sexy; what a fantastic voice.

  • I just love this band!

  • i dont give a box of rats asses how cliche and over played CB got in the goth club scene, there will always be a place in my heart and in the soundtrack of my life, even with my urge to fire up the flame thrower, I'll forgo the childish name calling and just say, I think this is a fabulous and excellent cover and yes i have my Cohen discography sitting right here.

  • @SelfMedicatedable goth club? i am the same age as you and when i bought this it was considered alternative rock and i bought it when it came out. I was never goth i think you are stereo typing this now people will think this is goth and Johnette is 100% rock and roll. I just saw her four months ago .

  • @SelfMedicatedable how many rat's asses they puttin in a box nowadays?

  • @iago68 good question

  • @iago68 good question

  • @glasshabit01 cb kicks ass!! and jn is very hot.

  • @SelfMedicatedable Concrete Blonde is one of the most underrated bands out there. I even named my daughter after Johnette. Screw the "haters" ....Box of rats asses...coolest thing i have read on YT. thanks!!

  • Why do the greatest bands have to be SO under-rated and so under-appreciated ??? Simple: the Industrial "Music" SHITSTEM is ruled by PERVERT PSICHOPATICS who only want sell ROTTEN UGLY SHIT FAKES -- such as Madonna and Gaga --- and they want made us all a bunch of billions of MOROMS with NO sense of good taste for so good things and REAL TALENTED ARTISTS --- such as Concrete Blonde, Public Image, Bolshoi, Alphaville, Irene Cara, Sinead O'Connor, Kim Carnes, Sandra, Laura Branigan, Randy Bush...

  • Pump Up the Volume is one of my all-time favorite movies... and this is a very good cover

  • if God had a voice. God would sound like johnette.

  • Cohen is brilliant and this enhances it a little bit more. Great , Love it.

  • Pump up the volume Yes, but also natural Born Killers.

  • i have loved this song since the first time i heard it watching Pump Up The Volume. I saw Concrete Blond the first time in 1990. I don't remeber if they played this.

  • Still, I hear her voice .. Still, They make me feel.. Love these guys!!!!

  • they might as well slap son henley in the face...this version sucks azz

  • @getdrunkgethi420 what version of this do u listen too?

  • @getdrunkgethi420 Why slap Henley? 'Everybody knows' is a Leonard Cohen song.

  • lament for the 90's. it seems like cultural passion has died at least in america. when will things get any better musically?

  • Johnette and James are Amazing..........

  • Awesome voice!

  • Love the song Love the band and the lead singer ya she's HOTT and has a great voice ya she can sing this girl to sleep anytime ...
