jeez its like they missed the entire atmosphere of the stories lovecraft wrote.
Portal is the only band i know that actually equals the insanity and absolute horrific detail in their lyrics correctly without ripping off passages from lovecraft.
What I don't get is why some artists often depict Yog with tentacles. He's described as a bunch of orbs. Cthulu characterization perhaps? Although I do like the picture with Yog having 1 eye, a few tentacles, and is overlooking a valley... he retains that "gateway" look to him right there.
@Nverdis As a bunch of orbs? Are we talking about C'thun from WoW, cause Yog-Saron in WoW (Which I imagine is the depiction of Yog-Sototh) has tenticals aswell. Actually.. All the old gods in WoW does.
@Nverdis Azathoth. What's the point of the question? The Demon Sultan is the Mindless Chaos at the Centre of the Universe. All others just exist by his whim.
@TheMindcontrolled Well, I just wikipedia'd him and it seems that he is the leader of the great old one/outer god faction who pulls all the strings behind those guys. The opposite faction are the Elder gods, which include the Egyptian gods and Nodens. It doesn't say anything about him governing everything that lives, but that may be due to the inaccuracy of wikipedia. Thanks for participating though. :)
@Mike21Hawk Actually the Mythos crops up in hundreds of stories, novels, films, rock albums, t-shirts and Christmas cards. Oh, AND games - lots of them, pen and paper and console and computer and cards. I think the originator, H P Lovecraft, would be rather concerned (and possibly very surprised). Some people actually do follow it as a religion of sorts. I'm not saying where I stand, but with that much smoke, maybe there really is a a fire somewhere?
@Lemming013 What's the origin of this creature? In a nut shell of course, not need to go into depth about it but what is it? What does it(Cathulu) do? What is yog-sothoth's purpose? I'm a little interested; not in the following but just what the whole religion is about.
@Mike21Hawk Well, the writer H P Lovecraft started it all off writing stories about Cthulhu and the Great Old Ones. There are these immense beings which inhabit the spaces between dimensions, but which do penetrate our space at times (when the stars are right), Yog Sothoth being both a portal and the opener of the portal. Thought they are hostile to man, cultists work to bring them back. Your best bet is to read H P Lovecraft, and go from there.
@ChristopherJHenry Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian to the gate. Past, present and future are all one in... Yog-Sothoth

Just finished reading the Case of Charles Dexter Ward for the first time.
What were the nameless "pets" in the pits, "they have no need to feed yet they do anyway"!!!
Loved the incantation invoking Yog-Sothoth, used in the conclusion of the story. My favourite Lovecraft story so far........................

Is it me or did Lovecraft have a thing with tentacles and sea-men? Lol jk but a lot of what I see are sea-aliens that are called gods.

Who would win in a fight? Nyarlathotep or Cthulu? Horus (elder god) or Azathoth. Also, give a reason for your answer. :D

@JakobsMovieTutorials I find it particularly irritating because the genre of music in no way suits Lovecraft literature.
If you imagine a film of one of there books how often does the soundtrack consist of heavy electric guitars and drums?
Id say Lovecraftian music would be very subtle and earie.
Pan flutes are constantly mentioned throughout the Cthulhu Mythos.
PerpetualMindDump 1 year ago
@PerpetualMindDump it's because Pan flutes are Azathoth's favorite instrument and he loves the sound they make
