Isn't the sound so unreliable simply because you have the sound set to minimum levels? It has very little control over the level of volume when you have it that low because all the sound is only 8-bit. :P
So the solution: up the sound in the settings. Of course, I am years too late in telling you this.
Julian is actually played by the late Vincent Schiavelli, a very fine actor who played in a variety of television shows and movies. He unfortunately passed on in 2005. :(
Vincent also played the Harkonnen Mentat Yanich Kobal in another Westwood game, Emperor: Battle for Dune.

How come in some places in the Huline Jungle you suddenly get that shimmer around your picture? It just comes and goes. I thought at first it meant someone was important right by where I was standing. But I never could quite figure that out.
It hints to secret places, most of which will let you change your form back to human. But not all. Sometimes it just means either of both, a change place or a secret. However, if I recall correctly at very few points in the game it's just there even though there is nothing, probably a programming error.
Hey Kikoskia, have you even wondered of doing a LP of Ultima Underworld? I hope you consider doing a LP of it in the future since the game's so damn good and it's well worth the effort put into it.
