  • Comment removed

  • well i cant spell it but i can pronounce it

  • My God, YOU are the worthless twit. World of Warcraft doesnt know a copyright, even if it paraded infront of them in a dress! sindarin is J.R.R. Tolkiens language of the Elves, as is Quenya.

  • amin mela he...

  • I need to learn Sindarin. Somehow I'm stuck and I can't seem to find the right resources like I could with Quenya. I guess I'll have to go read Renk's course, even though he never explains anything :(

  • hhhh elvish Im dark elf lool

  • :D

"He looks older, but I still love him"

  • I Agree with Kwanyin ;P

  • spanish is a topic at schools!? :D

  • Elvish should be a subject in school, like Spanish, and French. I would totally take it

  • I agree!

  • Some universities actually offer it!

When I transfer schools, I'm taking a Quenya and Sindarin course, and then another class that studies the history of Middle-Earth. :)

  • What kinda school is that? Rivendell? i dont see how that offers any form of education whatsoever in the outside world >_> you cant get a job as legolas in the world lmao (unfortunatly)

  • It actually offers a lot of education; studying the different phonetics, and the techniques and methods taken from other languages that Tolkien used to create the languages. It would not be offered at so many schools (including highly pretigious ones) if one couldn't get anything valuable out of it.

  • Well you see the thing is, i still dont see what job speaking elvish could be. You cant really sit down at a help line and say "Hello sir, i speak several languages including Elven, how may i help you?" As much as id love to speak the language myself, other than gramatical uses of the sort (which, btw, everyone learns in school) it doesnt provide any educational background whatsoever imo.

  • There are people out there who study these books and languages for a living. They're called scholars, and I want to be one of them. Tolkein was a scholar for "Beowulf", in which he professionally studied the poem. And now people are doing the same with his work. Unless you're a historian or a Catholic priest, Latin won't help you on your resume, yet it's taught. Learning exactly where Tolkien came up with these ideas is indeed beneficial to those seeking a career out of it.

  • Please, i mean no harm on your part, but dont talk down on me if you can help it. Also, ill believe you turning into a scholar when i see you study your own writing first as i recollect it was spelt Tolkien and not Tolkein.

  • It was a simple typo. Take a look at my first reply, I spelled "Tolkien" correctly. And please, don't talk to me about condescending when you choose to add a remark that like that to the end of your comment.

  • And yet, you're one of the witless morons who can't differentiate between "you're" and "your". Fuck off, jackass.

  • Why? Because I made a simple mistake in while typing out a rushed comment? Yes, that makes me a TOTAL failure. Yet you can't obtain a lesson that's taught in grammar school at the age of ten. I've gotten over ten scholarships to universities across the country (I'm American, thanks), had my work published in national magazines, and yet, I'm only 20, and have received personal congratulatory letters from presidents, politicians, and officials of the Catholic church. Don't make me laugh!

  • Oh! And im gonna leave you alone now :) Enjoy your elvish course ;) lol

  • And I believe you all started this, having the audacity to falsely accuse me of being condescending when, you're the only one who has been patronizing.

  • I wish you could read some of my pieces of work. All these comments were typed in a hurry, it wasn't a conscious mistake, I didn't have time to proofread my sentences. You'd honestly think I'd seek a career as a scholar if I didn't know proper English? My biggest pet peeve in the world is poor grammar and spelling. And I wished to be in the Navy as a writer, but my asthma disqualified me, so I'm seeking a different route instead now. If you spotted my errors, you were looking for them.

  • When pointing your finger at others mistakes, you should at least proofread your own comments. ;)

  • The problem is that there are so many different ideas about how Elvish should be spoken that they could ever find a universally agreed upon form to teach. They'd have to present all the different possiblities and ideas and give the sources and reasoning behind everything in order for it to be a legitimate study of the languages.

I'm all for that of course, but I can't see your average Highschool student being down with it.

  • hmmmm....it's a dialect of estonia? when someone wrote out what Liv Tyler said it looked more like gaelic

  • can you pls wisper it in my ear ???? :-)

  • i want 2 learn!! how do i do it?

  • where are u guys learning elvish/ sindarin??

  • I want to learn it is there like a dicionary or somthing?

  • The language "Elvish" in the movie, is in fact a dialect of estonain, its a living language only spoken by not more than a 100000people in the north of estonia.

  • I Love estonia Did you hear about that guy who took down the entire estonain internet singal handed?

  • Wow...I wonder if the people in Estonia are as beautiful as elves are.I want to live there and get a boyfriend that looks like Orlando!!! lol

  • Honey, why do you speak when you so obviously don't know of what you speak?

The language in the movie is Sindarin. It's a language that J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of LotR invented himself. It may sound similar to this 'Estonian' of yours, but it's not the same language. If it's similar it's because Tolkien was going for a particular style that also exists in real languages.

You should really do a little research before you comment.

The wise speak only of what they know

  • you are the spaz .. the toung she is speaking is quenya. and that is the language tolkin made sindarin. is form world of war craft you twit ... take some of your own advice. reaserch b4 you speak tool.

  • She's not speaking Quenya. I know Quenya, and that isn't Quenya.

I may have been a little quick to say she was speaking Sindarin (that's definately what she's supposed to be speaking and some of it at least seems to be real Sindarin) but I've heard it rumored since making this comment that the "Sindarin" in the movie isn't altogether legitimate.

  • I don't know to what extent this is, it now seems possible that the movie people could have used some other language was used as a quick easy way to fill in gaps.If that is the case then I should at least halfway appologize. But even it that were the case the language she's speaking definately isn't entirely this Estonian. And it's at least partly Sindarin.

  • Most of both quenya and sindarin were pieced together by fans based on the grammatical rules and spelling laid down by Tolkein. Tolkein himself only wrote about 350 words for the elvish languages.

  • World of Warcraft doesn't know a copyright from a welcome mat, brilliant one. Both Quenya AND Sindarin are languages J.R.R. Tolkien invented, regardless of how many video game makers steal the names.

  • fucking retard she is speaking sindarin, the language spoken throughout middle earth during the 3rd age

  • I'm still learning elvish

  • hmm i dunno why but i hate the sound of her voice dont get me wrong she was great in lord of the rings but hearing someone speak like that in a normal society it just sounds a bit weird lol

  • I like the elvish soft voice, but yeah her normal voice is different andnot as appealing

  • I luv the Elvish language, especially when Legolas speaks it!!! ^_^ Orlando Bloom does a wonderful job of portrying the Elvish language within the character Legolas!!! ^_^

  • That language is beautiful! My goodness, it's remarkable that one man created it.

  • Totally agree :)

  • what is the liquid beauty that brushes softly against my ear. Ohhhh elvish. lol

  • Her voice is so beautiful and angelic when she speaks Elvish.

  • so true! I love when she speaks elvish...

  • Law Hir Nîn, udollen i Riu Anirach. Liu Gwannadh uin Gwaith lîn?

    so beautiful!! love her!

  • I'm trying to learn how to speak it, but it's not going well. Liv is awsome, and she did such a wonderful job as Arwen.

  • YEah she was al embarassed cause this was the first tiem she'd ever accepted to be at a convention, also this was the first thing she was asked to do. She handles herself beautifully as always.
