It is a piece of electrical tape, just to help me see how fat the rings are spinning which can be very helpful in the building I was juggling at night.

They're 85mm's and are the second shortest length they offered though I'm thinking of getting longer ones.

Ha thanks, no I just practice way too much, but I make sure to practice as efficently as possible. For example, some of the harder tricks like the 744 in full reverse or the connected 5 ring 540's I rarely try. Instead I work on lots and lots of drills and just having a very good foundation like just practicing the full reverse or lots of single 540's rather than really big tricks the whole time. I make sure to listen to music as well because then drilling through tricks is a lot more fun.
