More often than not, their secularization made them weaker somehow, as shown through Rome, Britain, the US, etc. and maybe China, with its growing Christian population. It may have been coincidental, but it seems to me that Christianity provides good moral and legal frameworks for societies. Most religions do, as noted with most every major ancient civilization.

Some of the best online friends I have, are from and live in China, and even though they know it could be dangerous, they tell me, from the bottom of their fragile little Chinese hearts *exactly* how they feel, and what's going on in China-land, and it's not pretty. And you: as a westerner, I find it amazing, that I sympathize more with those victims of Mao, than a real Chinese coming from China! What's wrong with that picture... It is true millions lost their lives during the great forward leap and culture revolution but there is a difference between genocide and starvation. As long as China is improving the living stardard of the people, there is no better option other than using the stable enviorment to develop economy.

If the wage is forcefully raised all factories will leave China and many companies would not even start business there. Just like what I thought, you know nothing about the situation in China. The prices on normal food in China *is* rising, without the people's wage following. The gov. doesn't hide that fact either.
Why do you think China and foreign companies are investing heavily in Africa & India? Because they know, that in some years, China can't be offering the same low-wage work at the same prices as fx. India.
Besides, China invested lots of money in Europe lately. The reason? Only few Chinese people can afford the Chinese-made luxury-items.

I didn't learn that version in school, but you can bet your ass that I learned that China helped: From archives that have been opened in Kreml, it states that Kim Il Sung three times asked Stalin permission to invade South Korea, and the third time, Stalin finally gave in. DPRK indvaded the south, and UN, with the help of the USA, forced them back, which made China enter the war and help DPRK with armies, and USSR helped with army-material, supporting by China and DPRK.

The government failed to protect its own citizens but not killing them intentionally. People who beat others during that time are called "文革余孽" in China which means leftover evil from culture revolution.

Who beat other people were the bad guys. The govenment was wrong for not protecting its own cizitizen. It's not like HItler and Stalin genoceided the minorities.

Yes. The main difference is the number. Hilter killed 6 million Jews. Stalin executed 1.5 million people during Great Purge. Great Chinese Famine and Great Leap Forward during 1958~1961 in Mao's reign cost the lives of 36 million Chinese peple, an unprecedented tragedy in human history.
Mao's greatest contribution to China was his kicking the bucket and reporting to King of Hades in 1976. Strange enough, some poeple still worship him like a god and cover up his sins.

There is also a recording of his speech at Tienanmen, which contains everything he said. Nor the Chinese alter that speech ever. "The Chinese people have stood up" is from his opening address at the First Plenary Session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. Well, nothing new. does anybody still care about the truth? I'm a socialist, but I'm sincerely thankful for documentaries like these, with the people who were actually there clearing up the historical record. Nobody should allow themselves to fall into blind devotion or idol worship at the expense of the facts. Mao was far from the ideal communist, he was a calculating opportunist and every bit as brutal as Stalin. Do not be idol worshiping fools, especially if you claim to be a real socialist or communist.
