I'm surprised they did not mention that General Choi Hong Hi actually founded it. I know an 8th degree black belt who used to instruct me and hopefully will again soon once I recover from a long injury, the techniques are extremely physical.
@sum41foreverown Its not easy to grab a leg, its actually really damn hard. You don't like that there are a lot of kicks? Well don't think of them that way, instead you should see them as Options. Being only able to use one kick WILL get you caught and knocked down.
@hazza3 i love kicks i was in a bad mod while writing thoose comments sorry about that im training karate and shaolin and im almost only useing kicks.
@CrashBandikoot7 Not as hard as you might think. Though, the extremely stylish kicks require a LOT of training and practice. Anyone under a 3rd dan will more often stick to the simple kicks like round house and back kicks.
@NeoTrent But also everytime you throw one of them, you put your standing balance at risk and have a big chance of your kick pushing yourself back or the other guy shrugging the kick off and just rushing you into a take down. Cung Le in MMA seems to do a very good job with the kicks. What "dan" is he?
@CrashBandikoot7 Cung Le is a 1st dan in Tae Kwon Do but remember that he's a mixed martial artist. He'll never master any martial art completely and will only learn the techniques before moving on.
Your talk about balance and rushing isn't a weakness of Tae Kwon Do, it's a weakness of the human body and testimony to the skill level of the competitor. Every attack leaves an opening and there will always be a grapple to counter any attack. It's up to the student to cover is own weaknesses.
@NeoTrent Well I've heard Bruce Lee for example doesn't really like high kicks because of the reasons I stated above. Obviously a high kick would take longer to do then a punch, which leaves you open for many things to go wrong. Also your standing on one foot during the attack. Not the same as other attacks. The only time I would really use a kick in a fight is if the guy is really dazed. If you take a look at the #1 MMA fighter, Fedor, you will see he tends not to throw any kicks or knees-->
@NeoTrent too often, otherwise that leaves much room for a take down or dangerous counter. Thats a big reason why he doesn't get takin down very often.
@CrashBandikoot7 If you're in a street fight or an MMA fight I completely agree. Outside of the mat I never throw a kick above the waste and only use a knee for rib shots when they're in too close for an effective punch. But in a Tae Kwon Do match things like grapples and takedowns aren't allowed so we're free to use all the high flying kicks we want. Plus, you've seen how powerful they can be when a big ol' football playing dude like Bill gets knocked out cold from just one to the head.
@NeoTrent Oh ok. Na I know in Tae Kwon Do matches obviously it would be more effective, but I was kinda referring to a street fight situation because I see some of those body gaurd guys in the video using it for protection, and I was a little skeptical on it's effectiveness in those situations.
@NeoTrent I did see my friend get dropped twice by the same front kick during a brawl we were in once, but he claims it's cause he was drunk. I think it's cause the guy was heavier and worked on that attack before. A front kick like that from a guy with less weight, would not be recommended in my book.
@Blazureokami what are we talking about? I said a lot of things.

nice looking style, but i reckon its very hard to land these stylish kicks exactly where you need to in a real fight :-(
