@punkpoetry: Mentioning a few cultural highlights of the US does not change the fact that engaging in stereotypes makes you look the fool. I appreciate the good and the bad that the world has to offer. I work hard, as do a large percentage of Americans, to change what is wrong in my country. The worst thing that can be said about the US is that too few engage in our representative government.
Did I mention that Leolo is well worth a viewing?
To the grundle who wrote this: This is a magnificent film. If you appreciate poetry, good photography and a rather unique film with different, yet real, perspectives this one may be for you. If you prefer the old recycle/worn-out, car-chasing, explosions, and the "heros" that never die this movie simply may NOT be for you.
You dont have to like action movies to not wanna see this..ppl with good taste can think this is dumb and your just a "wanna be intelligent uppity award winning movie fan"

@Joeey You have to admit it's hard to recommend it lightly in the same way that you might recommend a film like Little Miss Sunshine. That's a movie you can watch the first time and fall in love with, whereas Leolo is like a scrape on the knee: at first it's painful and unpleasant, but given time it's fun to pick. At first I couldn't stand this movie, but I'm gradually falling in love with it.
@sideburnbasher: Stereotypes will never serve you well. I'm American and this is one of my favorite films. I saw it in the local art house in 1993. I still can't see a tomato without thinking of this movie.
To assume that the majority of Americans are stupid is quite revealing of one thing: your own lack of intellectual curiosity. Learn more of the world. It's a fascinating place--filled with fascinating people. Visit the United States. We're quite tolerant of rude foreigners.
the US gave the world Moby Dick, Emily Dickinson, Marriane Moore, Salinger, Captain Beefheart, Tom Waits, Sonic Youth, Fredric Jameson and then some; yet as things stand today, it would hardly be unfair to describe it as a nation of lobotomized zombies. And I've been to the US, for longer than I care to remember
no wonder this movie is in the TIMES magazine TOP 100 ever movies....

Very moving movie. Some times horrifying, some times funny, some times sad.

@chimpiki the cat scene is a little harsh, but this is a realpolitik film. the best part is the family picnic.

A sensitive, beautiful movie about trouble and youth in a high neurotic family who was ever seen: funny, surreal and chaotic.
