Wow at least it's encouraging to know that a LOT of fucking work goes into how good virtuosic music sounds! I'm in a bit of a Salieri mood tonight haha
What's the name of the producer - is it John McClure? Is he still alive? I need some information about him for research reasons but cannot find anything over the web. It seems like he is "locked" for the rest of the world.
Ahh, but there is more to him than meets the eye. He has his own forum over at trumpetmasterDOTcom and he doesn't like being challanged. Watch what he did to me after asking him a fair and respectfully worded question. So check out the forum titled "WORK" at trumpetmasterDOTcom
I don't think there is - I imagine the record company would want to actually enforce the copyright on that one so people would have to go out and buy the soundtrack/making of to see it.
lenny was such a genius he knew what they were thinking they forgot to tell them a note so they tried use that they werent together when really he just forgot to tell them something!lol
@wiseone2 Wait, you were the first trumpet Bernstein calls a genius in this documentary? I really hope that's true. I would love to have met Leonard Bernstein.
These sessions actually took place in Sept. 1984 (LP was released in 1985). I was also a singer in these sessions, and yes, the memories are sweet. Oddly, the documentary presented an "invented" story line about Jose through the use of misleading editing, resulting in the depiction of "drama" that never actually occurred, while ignoring a genuine story: Kiri arriving practically voiceless from a summer cold, yet somehow muscling through.
This documentary was made in 1985 at RCA Studios in NYC for Deutsche Grammophon, as I remember it. I was one of the singers on the session! What memories!!
Why are the guys in the sound box telling Bernstein what to do? He was one of the best composers/conductors of the 20th Century. I am pretty sure Bernstein knows more than the guys telling him what to do.
You always need a producer and an engineer in the box :-). And all conductors know that an extra pair of ears won't hurt the quality of the recording.

Leonard Bernstein isn't really much of a good singer.. maybe he was before 60 years ago or something.. but not now he seems to be a FABULOUS conductor though xD
I've never heard anything so "together" in my life!!
LOL Seriously, that section was stupendous.

Bernstein is a genius. I just wish he would have picked a different cast for this recording (and not have let his children record the dialogue!)
